“What a relief / The Charming Hotel has it all!”
Reviewed 15 November 2009

We arrived in Hanoi having booked at the Charming Hotel, found through tripadvisor. What a relief! They took care of everything for us: transfer from airport to the hotel, spa booking and transportation, Halong Bay 2 night / 3 day excursion, Sapa 4 night / 3 day excursion, train tickets, plane tickets, taxi booking, hotel reservation in Ho Chi Minh. The staff is extremely professional and polite, full of smiles and mastering English. The hotel itself is brand new, the rooms are quiet (surprising being in the center of Hanoi), clean, comfortable, and rather spacious. Breakfast is included. It was more or less our base for the North of Vietnam. My husband and myself would like to thank Mr. Duc and The Charming Hotel staff for making our trip comfortable, enjoyable, and easy!

We took a room at $25 (without window. they charge $5 more for a window). It was very clean. It included aircon, wifi, and good free breakfeast. The staff are really nice, friendly and helpful. We liked this hotel very much.

With that said, a room without a window sucks and we didn't want to pay the extra $5 fopr it. After staying there several days, we moved to another hotel where that had similar rooms (same quality and service) but had a window for the same price we were already paying at the Charming Hotel.

This is a great cozy place with excellent service from top to bottom. Everyone has been so friendly and accommodating to me and my family. They do not deny any request and go out of their way to fulfill any needs that you may have. I have an elderly mother that needs special accommodations with pick up late at the airport. I had the same request for my own arrival at 11:30p. They showed up with signs at the airport which has made your arrival to a strange city very comforting. Mr Duc and his crew treated us like family. Dao always greeted me with a smile and welcome in the morning. Humble yet great place right in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the ancient place in the city. 4 stars hotel in my little book as I do prefer a bed and breakfast atmosphere. They also arrange for tours of the city at pricing comparably lower than others (yes, I shopped around). They assure the quality of their tours for me as : no money back satisfaction: Whaaaat? Never heard of that from a middle man. Well from whatever they have done for me and my family (elderly mother and brother and sister), I am pleased to recommend this cozy sweet hotel. I already reserved rooms for my friends who will be visiting during Thanksgiving. They will also arrange tours for my friends. And noooooo, we are not related and friends or anything.

My wife, sister, brother-in-law and I stayed at this hotel from October 25 to31, 2009. We really enjoyed our stay during this period as we felt very much at home with the excellent services provided by the all the staff in this hotel. They were very helpful and accommodating, and as far I can remember, they had not turned down any of our requests.

The rooms were big and clean with wide windows that allowed us to have a good view of the Old Quarter of Hanoi. Staying in this hotel, we were never out of ideas where to go as in the vicinity, there were many shops and restaurants for us to patronize. The very centralized location of this hotel made it easy and convenient for us to stroll along the many old but fascinating streets in the Old Quarter.

For US$24.00 a night, and with the comfortable double twin room, free flow of coffee, daily breakfast, convenient location and excellent staff services, we simply can't ask for more.

For anyone visiting Hanoi, We will not hesitate to recommend them this hotel.

We had a bad experience at this hotel. The room was small and the bathroom was a wet-room style so you had to wear shoes after taking a shower. The bathroom also reeked of drains, and when mentioned to them, they came and sprayed airfreshener which wore off in about 2 hrs. great!

There was also no storage in the room and very little room to put your suitcase down. The staff were very friendly during the day and the hotel breakfast was fine, toast and juice but did the trick.

The location is right in the heart of the old town but is in very busy area. We had a large amount of culture shock as the streets are so busy and mopeds go so close to you, i would advise to stay somewhere a little further out, perhaps by the lake (Jasmine Hotel recommended) as there is more room on the pavements and easier to travel into the old narrow streets than living there. Room was also relatively quiet at night other than slamming doors.

We left the hotel early, at 11pm as there were strange noises coming from another guest in the corridor of the hotel, With no peep hole we didn't know what it was. It sounded like someone shuffling on the floor, moaning. After a while of wondering what it was and getting more scared, I called reception and asked them to check on the person outside, because at one point it sounded like someone either very very drunk or someone not very welll at all. When no one came i called back again. Everntually he came up and knocked on our door. My husband answered and it was the receptionist wondered why we called, as it was just a group of people sat outside our room smoking and not quite acting normal... We were furious - what kind of hotel sees nothing wrong with a group of 6 men smoking and acting drunk outside another persons room at 10.30pm. We were even more upset that he didn't ask them to move, he instead questioned us infront of the men. Evenaully we asked him to ask the men to move and went downstairs to complain. He then laughed at us. We said it wasn't funny, we were scared. We decided there is no point staying somewhere where you are physically scared. Trusting our instincts we then packed up our bags and left the hotel, getting rescued by a member of staff from fab Jasmine Hotel. Never Again!

The Charming Hotel and staff were wonderful. As new arrivals in the bustling city of Hanoi without travel plans, we needed assistance. Through the recommendations of the Manager and Reception staff, we committed to tours to Halong Bay and Sapa....the transport arrangements and accommodation for each was outstanding. Not to mention the Charmiong Hotel accommodation and service. We were very impressed with all aspects of the Hotel and would highly recommend it to all travellers....price wise it is excellent value for money. They are efficient, friendly and accommodating to your individual needs and the Hotel is spotless. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hotel and appreciate the efforts by staff to assist with pick ups and travel plans. We will stay there again when next in Hanoi
