“Stayed at the Laa Dolce Vita Hotel in January 2012”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 January 2012

After three flights and a 27 hour trip we eventually arrived at the La Dolce Vita hotel in the bustling old area of Hanoi.
We were greeted by friendly Staff and were pleased to find our room spotless quite and very adequate in a great location for people who had not been to Hanoi before.
We were near the small lake and as it was a Saturday night whet strait to the Night market at the end of the street.
Breakfast was adequate with enough to choose from.
As we were doing a Halon Bay cruse and returning to the hotel they kept our excess baggage. I asked for an upgrade to a large street facing room with a balcony.
For the extra charge I suggest these rooms as they open up onto the bustling street, but when you shut the shutters it blocks out all the street sound.
Nice well priced hotel excellent staff we loved it.

Room Tip: Street facing lager rooms

We arrived in Hanoi on the bus and a tout brought us into the city the places he showed us were not suitable so we left him and La Dolce Vita was the first hotel we walked into. $60 a night was the most we had paid on our trip but the hotel was worth it especialy the breakfast. The hotel was calm and warm as it was a bit chilly during our stay. Outside the streets are madness but the hotel is in a good locaion in the old quarter. We had one meal in the evening the service was a bit slow and there were changes to our order but it was nice and made us laugh. Would recomend this hotel

The hotel was recommended by the local tour agent. It is conveniently located within the old quarters. Once you get into your room, you immediately enjoy the quiet of the hotel.. The rooms are spacious and come with all amenities. Bed linen and towels are clean.
The staff are very friendly and helpful. Worth a second visit.

My first visit to Vietnam, first stop for my 16 year old son and myself was La Dolce Vita for 3 nights - very clean and the staff were friendly. We had a twin room at the back of the building, so I couldn't believe my eyes when I went downstairs the first morning and sat on the front steps @ 6am...I could have sat there and watched the whole world unfold all day- unbelievable. It is situated in the old quarters and not far from the main action but believe me there is plenty of action in this street. There was free in house WIFI which is a huge plus, the breakfast crew were always there to great you with a warm friendly smile and the front of house people were great.I would definately stay there again.

This hotel is perfectly situated for a visit to Hanoi. In the centre of the Old Quarter, close to the Hoan Kiem lake and relatively close to the Ho Chi Minh mausoleum and the other attractions.
Very good service, we arrived at 9 am and it was arranged that we could enter our room already at 10 am. nice breakfast.
Abbility to store part of your luggage when leaving on a two day trip to Sapa.

Room Tip: Try to have a room at the in- or backside. Otherwise you might have some noise from the street

Our first trip to Hanoi was a culture shock to say the least. This hotel was excellent. Central, only a couple of blocks from the centre of the city, in the old quarter. Walking distance from a lot of attractions, when weather permits. However, be ready for someone wanting to fix your shoes! The room was very clean, comfortable and quiet, given the noise from the busy streets outside! My only advise is that if you request more bottled water (a must here, even for teeth cleaning), make sure you ask for "housekeeping" or you will have to pay for it from the bar. We ate at the restaurant as well which was also excellent- must try the pho (chicken noodle soup).

Dates of Stay: 05-08 March 2011 & 10-11 March 2011

After what seemed like an endless flight and a depressing overly bureaucratic experience at Hanoi airport, my friend and I made it through the small crowded winding smog-laden streets of Hanoi, due to there being an accident on the express way our guide made an alternative journey to our hotel from the airport. This took about 90 minutes.
Our hotel, La Dolce Vita (strange hotel name for a former French colony) is located on Hang Bo, which apparently translates to Peach Street.
La Dolce Vita hotel is not particularly resplendent from the outside nor the main lobby to be honest. Blink and you’d miss is – luckily our guide knew where it was! The hotel doesn’t stick out from the other premises on the street e.g. chemists, tailors shops.
Upon arrival we were greeted out front by the porter who took our luggage and transported it up the slightly steep steps that adorn the front of the hotel. Check-in was swift and unproblematic – our passports were taken and retained by the check-in desk (as is customary with hotels throughout the world these days) until check-out. Even though we arrived at the hotel early 12:00pm local time, they were prompt and efficient in finding us a room which was a God-send given we had been travelling for approximately 15-hours and through several time zones.
The hotel’s ground floor is particularly small and narrow – check-in at the front, seated area (where smoking is allowed) in the middle which leads to a small but well-stocked bar and beyond the bar is the lift (one small lift which serves the whole hotel!!) and then at the very rear is a small inoffensive restaurant.
The hotel on the subsequent floors opens up and is quite wide and airy although it is a little dark.

BEDROOMS
We stayed here twice as our stay in Hanoi was truncated by a cruise in Halong Bay.
Both rooms were very clean and adequately equipped although a little on the dark side as they had no windows out onto the road rather the windows faced inwards into an area within the hotel making the rooms deathly quiet which is good! The beds were comfortable and provided me with very good sleep each of the nights I stayed. It’s worth noting that upon arrival we were kindly presented with a courtesy bowl of fruit.
The TV was a 36-inch Samsung Flat screen which provided me with 56 channels for me viewing pleasure (although walking the streets of Hanoi is much more exciting).
The mini-bar consisted of: 1 beer, 2 bottles of water, 2 cans of cola and some savoury snack thing – so not great but passable.
The bathrooms were clean and well stocked with such things as soap, razor, toothpaste, toothbrush. The only annoyance with the bathroom was the hot water seemingly running out all too quickly so it was nigh on impossible to put the shower on, leave it to run for a bit and then have a hot shower. So cold showers, especially at night were the order of the day. This proved somewhat annoying as the only thing one wants to do after walking the streets of Hanoi is to have a good old shower before going to bed.

BAR & RESTAURANT
The bar was well stocked and as with the check-in staff had an excellent grasp of English (as well as other languages). The service was excellent.
The restaurant was small and quaint. This is where breakfast took place. Breakfast consisted of a buffet selection of:
-pastries – which were of a very poor standard,
-pho (a national soup/broth delicacy)
-fried rice (which was cold), noodles
-egg/omelette station
-cereals
-juices (which were always running out)
Tea and coffee were served by the waiting staff. I had coffee that tasted like a mix of hot chocolate and coffee … disgusting. So breakfast wasn’t a highly anticipated affair.

The dinner menu at the restaurant didn’t change. It was a simple menu with a mixture of western and Vietnamese food; cooked well and very tasty – which was in stark contrast to breakfast. My friend and I ate there several times such was our like of the restaurant and the need to get away from the hustle and bustle out on the streets. The waiting staff were very good and extremely polite and in the few instances whereby English was limited we managed to communicate well.

At our final departure the hotel provided us with a packed breakfast of sandwiches and refreshment due to us leaving too early for breakfast which I thought was an excellent touch.

CONCLUSION
On the whole a good hotel, with EXCELLENT well trained staff and one I’d definitely go back even though the breakfast leaves lots to be desired!
