“Great location and hotel for a long stay”
Reviewed 4 October 2013

We stayed at this hotel for 12 days while doing volunteer work . It was a great location in the Old Quarter. The staff was so helpful and accommodating. Any concerns were promptly handled. We upgraded to a large room with a balcony which looked out on Hang Ga street. It was very comfortable. Although the upholstery and carpets need cleaning, the friendliness and care of the staff out shined any appearances. Overall the hotel was clean, breakfast was great. the staff was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about locations. Always they seemed to care about our safety and comfort. Great value for the deluxe room. Thanks Tham for showing me so many rooms until I was satisfied.

Room Tip: Our room faced the street, but the noise was not disturbing at night.

Before I even stayed here I gained a positive attitude towards this hotel and the staff. I e-mailed the manager, Judy, on a number of occasions to arrange visa letter and pick up from airport and also information on various tours, and always got a prompt and effective response.

Check in was a pleasure with everyone so friendly. The pleasant young lady gave me a map and pointed out the main sights and places to eat. The room we booked was a delux and it was very nice. The free wi-fi along with the internet teminal in the room was really handy. Breakfast, which was included, consisted of one hot option and a range of breads and juices-it was delicious.

Would definitely stay here again on my return to Hanoi

Room Tip: Go for a Deluxe, as the superior seems a bit small

Hotel was in good location with very helpful staff. They did have many tours on offer but well worth doing your research. We went with tour through hotel as suited our itinerary and tour was well run.
Only criticism is the bed we had was extremely firm. Rooms at the front can be noisy but you are in Hanoi.

Excellent quality of service of receiptionist -Nyan, who has been really resposible, my one day tour got cancelled on the visit of museum, however Nyan still being very responsible to make it happen finally at my end of the tour, which really impressed me and I believe she delivers high quality of service to me and being a very responsible receiptionist, good English so no worry on communication. Meanwhile, hotel has been clean, quite with good location at downtown of Hanoi that you can easily get to Hoan Kien lake, night market, taste all the local delicious foods in Vietnam. Price has been reasonable as well(I have spent USD23/night with such good quality of service that I am really satisfactory and impressed), book of the taxi to airport is easy as well.

A good place to stay when visiting Hanoi again!

Basically we were very happy with our stay at Rising Dragon Grand Hotel and we would consider staying there again if we return to Hanoi ... but some things could be improved.

Our trip started with being picked up at the airport via our prebooked pickup service (19USD / 2 people). It worked great, driver was kind and polite (albeit didn't speak English) and we arrived quickly at our hotel, so far so good.

Initial impression of room was nice, quite big and very clean. Bit disappointing though was the bathroom which seemed to be of an older date than the main room. The bathroom was not bad or dirty, just bit old and worn down.

We were also bit disappointed with our hotel (electronic) door lock, which refused to lock quite often. Each time, staff fixed it right away, but it left me with the impression that there was a 50-50 chance of door being unlocked next time we returned to our room. Fortunately the room comes with a safety box, but I wouldn't leave any valuables in the room.

I also felt uncomfortable with the fire safety at the hotel; building is tall and narrow (as Hanoi buildings are) and only has one staircase for escape. Furthermore, all windows has thick bars on them (I assume for preventing burglars) and the hotel would be an absolute firetrap in case of fire. I would have preferred bar-less windows and some fire-escape ropes, but I guess this is just Hanoi standards (still, hotel could improve feeling of security with quite small costs).

Staff was very nice, helpful and friendly ... up to a certain point. Basically they did our best for answering all our questions "where can we buy this, how can we go here etc.", but unfortunately they were bit too pushy for our taste in selling tours. Every single morning and evening we were asked about our plans and if we would be interested in some of the tours that the hotel offers. I realize that this is probably a significant source of income for the hotel, but still it's bit annoying being asked *every* single day.
We had decided for 3 trips our of Hanoi; one we could do by city bus (safe and easy), one trip our hotel could not offer tour on the days we wanted to go, so we rented a private car+driver trough and external tour operator for 100 USD for full day and last tour was a tour to Halong Bay.

We listened to our hotel's offer for halong bay tours, but in the end we decided to go for an external operator at a much lower price than what hotel could offer. Even though our halong bay tour was cheap (60 USD / person for 2 day - 1 night trip), it was fully adequate for what we wanted. Now, we have no knowledge of the tours that the hotel offers, but I cannot imagine them being 3-4 times better, we had a *great* halong bay trip with our "discounted" tour and I would recommend other travellers to do the same. When hotel staff heard we booked tour elsewhere, they were quite upset and said they could "match any offer". That may or may not be true, but fact is they didn't give us good offer initially. I don't want to haggle myself to a "good offer", I take what is offered and hotel's offer just wasn't good enough.

Breakfast was above average; every day is offered one breakfast from a set selection, e.g. "british breakfast" (my favorite), "ameraican breakfast" (not recommended), "pho", "instant noodles", "pancakes" (pretty good with choclate sirup). In addition there is free cofffee/tea, fresh fruit and toast with jam/butter. Not splurging breakfast, but enough to get you started.

Location is very good, slightly in the outskirts of old quarter, but walking distance (if you dare to cross the streets) from both Long Bien bus terminal and Hoan Kiem lake.

General condition of hotel was - hmm, soso, not super modern, but of a decent standard. Daily cleaning was very good, thumbs up!

So, bottom line I give 3 out of 5 stars. One star is taken because of worn-down bathroom, low fire safety and faulty locks on our hotel doors. The second star is taken because of too pushy staff, much too eager to sell tours and even getting upset with us when we chose to buy a tour elsewhere. It should be none of their business.

That said, hotel was good value for money and apart for the tour-sellling gene of the staff, the stafff *was* friendly and helpful and if we return to Hanoi, we would possibly stay there again.

Room Tip: - Street facing rooms are very noisy - Deluxe room away from street are most quiet - "Superior...

We started our Vietnam tour in Hanoi at Rising Dragon Grand Hotel and had the best stay in this hotel! After our booking, the manager Judy Ahn e-mailed about airport pickup and possible tours they could arrange for us. So at our early arrival at Hanoi airport (8 AM) we were picked up and able to check in as soon as we arrived at the hotel. The location is great, we walked everywhere and the map provided by the staff is very helpful. We did two tours, to the Perfume Pagoda and to Halong Bay, that the hotel arranged for us. Both were really nice. We liked pretty much everything about this hotel but the friendliness of the staff (each member of the staff smiled and made conversation every time you'd see them, even the bell boys) and their incredible helpfulness is the best asset. We would definitely recommend this hotel to others traveling to Hanoi!

As a result of trip advisor reviews we stayed at this hotel.
We arrived in Hanoi at about 9am after a night train from Hue. We arrived at the hotel at about 9.30am. The hotel staff kindly offered us breakfast whilst they got our room ready for us. The breakfast is a buffet spread of local fruits, yogurt, breads and pick one hot plate from the menu, including a very good chicken Pho!
The rooms were very clean, with good A/C and very large soft comfortable beds.
The hotel is located in the old quarter of Hanoi and we easily walked to most attractions near by including the Ho Chi Min Mausoleum, night markets and Hoan Kiem Lake. There are lots of good local Vietnamese eateries near by.
The hotel organised our Sapa night train tickets on the Oriental Express train for $38 USD each (one way). Whilst waiting for our 9.50pm night train they allowed us to relax in their dining room and use their WIFI.
We ended up staying here 3 nights in total.
Highly recommended.
