I stayed here on the basis of good reviews and a price offer through booking.com which meant £9 for a night!

On arrival I was greeted warmly by the superb receptionist, who was brilliant throughout my stay. She said they had upgraded me free of charge; well the room I was given was superb, spacious, roomy and with a giant ensuite as well as being high up away from the Hanoi street noise!

The staff couldn't be more helpful, she booked a train ticket for me and a hostel; the ones I had sourced and requested. My train departure wasn't until 7 at night but the hotel stored my luggage and gave me use of wifi, shower, toilet with no charge.

Would recommend.

Super friendly and helpful staff made this hotel like an oasis of calm, away from the chaos and noise outside. We loved the frantic pace of the Old Quarter but to have a calm haven to duck into and escape for a little while was heavenly. Rooms were clean and quite spacious but a little dated. Breakfast was a choice from one of 4 set dishes but with a fruit/pastry/bread buffet included too. We certainly never walked away hungry! Nothing was ever a problem for the staff, no matter how many times we needed to change airport collection times due to flight delays. Everything was handled with efficiency, good grace and a smile.
THe only drawback is the street noise at night, but I suspect that this is just a unavoidable consequence of staying in the Old Quarter

Room Tip: To get a better nights sleep (especially if you are travelling with children, ask for a room at the...

Arriving in Hanoi at 4am after a long train journey from Danang we took refuge in the Hilton's lobby whilst waiting for the office opposite to open (our meeting point for an 8am collection for a two night Ha Long Bay boat trip). Connecting to the Hilton's WiFi we discovered our boat trip was cancelled due to Typhoon Haiyan's expected imminent arrival to the area.

Tired & stranded and needing two night's accommodation at short notice, the extremely kind member of staff at the Hilton (who were fully booked) rang round several hotels to find one that wasn't fully booked for the next two nights. He then organised a taxi for us to go to the Rising Dragon (Grand) Hotel.

How lucky were we. For USD $29 per night including breakfast we had a fantastic inside double room with ensuite shower & toilet - phenomenal value. And for an additional $12 we checked in at 5am - where a lovely receptionist & bell hop greeted us.

The hotel is in a great location in the Old Quarter and had a fantastic breakfast whereby amongst the usual fruit, pastry, bread etc, you could pick from about 8 choices to have one cooked to order item ie. eggs of varying types, divine French toast with banana etc. The staff were really good and keen to do their best for you.

When we checked out to go to our original pre-booked hotel (a few blocks away), they insisted on organising a taxi for us which turned up immediately. Fabulous.

Couldn't fault it.

Note: There are several Rising Dragon hotels in the area. This review is for the one at 24 Hang Ga Street.

What made this hotel exceptional was the staff. When we returned to the hotel from a day out they always had big smiles for us that made us feel welcomed. They were always ready to help us with anything we wanted and spoke good english. I usually book everything from home, but I took a chance and asked Judy Anh with booking of a Halong Bay Cruise, hotel in HCMC etc etc and everything turned out great. Halong Bay Cruise with Galaxy Cruise was fantastic (a must when in Vietnam) and Cap Town hotel in HCMC was fantastic as well. Sorry to say that I only got two more names Thun and Ngan of the staff, but everyone of them were fantastic. The rooms were fairly good sized with flat screen TV, minibar, safetybox and good sized restroom. The hotel is located in the old quarters within just a few minutes walk to the weekend night market, water puppet show, the old post office, opera etc. Amazing value.

Staff are very friendly and helpful and they all speak English well. They upgraded us to a deluxe room for all 3 nights of our stay for no extra charge. We stayed in room 604 which is supposed to be a city view but it actually has a window facing a wall. In my opinion this is better than the rooms with actual city views as you would be facing the very louder busy Hanoi streets. Our room was very well kept and clean with both a/c and hot water, the mattresses are hard but from what I hear that is standard everywhere here. The location is excellent it is only a 10min walk to Hoan Kiem lake and it is pretty much in the centre of the old quarter. Overall our stay was excellent especially for the price.

Room Tip: Choose a room at the back if possible so you aren't facing the loud city street.
