“Fabulous Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 November 2012

We spent the last night of our 3 week Vietnam adventure here,
Beautiful hotel.
Breakfast was incredible.
The beds....the most comfortable Ive EVER slept in, high and luxurious, like sleeping on clouds :)
Reasonably priced and in a great location in the French Quarter.
Great and helpful Staff, definetely stay here again next time.

My wife and I stayed here three nights in a "junior suite". It had the best bed (and highest!) we slept in during a three week holiday spent otherwise mainly in five star hotels. We liked the fact that the fantastic bath could be open to the rest of the room, allowing us to chat and relax at the same time. The room was great, but if you want a suite so you can - for instance - watch TV while your partner sleeps, forget it. The TV was at the foot of the bed, encased in a huge cabinet with mirrored glass on each side and the top. A remote control made the TV come up and down. It didn't work when we moved in and the demeanour of the maintenance guy who came to fix it suggested this was not unusual. It probably cost a fortune but actually looked very naff. My wife thought it was hideous. You could only watch TV if you were lying in bed.
This is a "boutique" hotel that has some interesting features but doesn't quite carry it off. There's an amazing central atrium which is hardly used except for "club guests" to have evening drinks (plus peanuts - forget any fabulous nibbles) and which has terrible acoustics. They should move reception here, instead of the current reception which is more 3-4 star than 4-5 star.
Nevertheless, the staff were really friendly and helpful, with good recommendations for genuine Vietnamese restaurants.
I liked the location, and found it great to walk back to tranquility after a day in the old quarter.
Good value for a really nice room. Disappointing no pool or fitness room.

This hotel is fairly Centrally located in Hanoi. Walking distance to Opera house and lake. Boutique style with attentive staff and fantastically comfortable bed. Great base to explore a wonderful & exciting city.

Warm welcome from staffs and friendly smile as well. I did like the way who organized for me the tour to halong bay with best price. Hotel with slogan no-smoking but when I smoked , they offer me an astray and no need to go out to smoke. There was an amazing coffee shop nearby, absolutely feeling delicious and deep taste of Vietnamese specialty, one of the most thing I like at this hotel was room, quite warm and elegance atmosphere, very good for my business and hanging out as well, I just a bit confuse because the weather was a little bad, maybe coming here in the next month is good.

My boyfriend and I stayed here at the end of my trip to Hanoi, and we had an absolutely terrible experience. Our cable did not work, and when we told the staff, our complaint was blown off and reception said "all rooms were the same." The day after we checked in, man at reception accused me of only booking the room for one person and not for two. He later realized he was incorrect and was not apologetic in any way. This was not the only time the staff were quick to react in a negative way. The bathroom smelled like sewage, and all of the amenities were dirty and used. The towels looked as if they hadn't been washed in weeks. After paying the same price for much better small hotels in Hanoi, this one was definitely not worth it. Don't waste your money here. There are plenty of better places to choose from!

Although our stay at the hotel was OK, the management made a $US200 fraudulent charge on our credit card. Despite repeated emails (over 2 months time) requesting the refund they have refused to do so. I paid my bill in full when I checked out only to find the $US200 charge when I returned home. They had our credit card information as I authorized a deposit for various tours, air tickets, and our accommodation. Under no circumstances would I send credit card (or banking) information to this hotel. There was no need to make any advance bookings (even Halong Bay), especially in January. There are many travel agents in the vicinity of the hotel that can handle all travel arrangements - hopefully without having money stolen from your credit card.

The hotel was fine - we were taken to two rooms (one had been a smoking room and the other had a water leak in the bathroom) before finding a suitable one. The location is very central in the Old Quarter - but it is quite noisy at all hours. The breakfast buffet was fine, although not as good as other hotels we stayed at in Vietnam. They will make eggs and pancakes for breakfast but they seem to not advertise it (menus were only available if you asked). The staff did arrange tours and flights for us - but it did come at a cost.

The Halong Bay 2day/1 night tour on the Golden Lotus was quite good but there are many comparable options. The Perfume Pagoda day trip was an adventure - some of the roads are very poor, the minivan was dirty and broke down several times, and the cable car was broken (we had no advance notice of this) meaning we had to 'climb' up a mountain with an 18 month old baby.

In conclusion, although the hotel was fine, be very careful about theft, despite the friendly and seemingly honest staff/management. I believe you can find better hotels in a quieter location for the same price in Hanoi.

We stayed at Thaison Grand Hotel for half a week and really enjoyed our stay there. Love so much the staff working there best, then the nice room and convenient location. We booked via Agoda.com and got a very good rate for a brand-new 3 star hotel. They provided buffet breakfast for free and it was really good... Highly recommend!
