Owner description: "Visiting Vietnam without listening to a rhythm of ca tru traditional music means that you've not discovered the real spirit of Vietnam yet." "Free yourself and get immersed in ca tru while enjoying performance by Thang Long Ca Tru Theatre. It is a voluntary, non-profit group of ca tru musicians founded in 2006. Long-time history, unique instruments, impressive music tones and meaningful song lyrics made ca tru recognized by UNESCO as the World Intangible Cutural Heritage." "This is a concert for about 70 persons held in an old temple in the old quarter of Hanoi. They are good about explaining the instruments and the history of the music. They even let you come try out the instruments. The hot tea and little cake is a nice touch at intermission" "The singers had such dear, expressive faces and sang with such intensity. The instruments were unique and had a real otherworldly quality to them and the presentation and overall performance were of a very high quality. I felt delighted, entertained and educated. Well worth going to see."-Visited wrote The show is on every Thursday and Saturday night at 8pm at 28 Hang Buom (Quan De Temple).

A most pure cultural presentation. You will be invited to call upon all 5 senses. It's a must, don't miss it.

“Do not miss it!”
Reviewed 19 March 2014

I expected to be just interested in this different from of art...I was actually entertained! This is really good! not only is it interesting to discover this art, it is also beautiful and funny! the scenes were all in Vietnamese but it is easy to understand what is happening and to giggle along. Definitely, definitely worth it. for some reasons guides were trying to stick every ones in front rows and the balcony but the middle rows are definitely the best seats (row F). one adult ticket was 100,000.

“An experience not to be missed!!”
Reviewed 19 March 2014

It's an amazing experience understanding the authentic musical instrument of the Vietnamese. Although there's no way to understand what was sang since it's all in Viet, but mesmerizing in the rhythm and melody was a bliss. The only set back was the location of the theater in the middle of old quarter which the sound of the annoying horn from the vehicle, just interrupted the entire experience. Other than it was great!! Just hope it will improve on it's sound proof ability.

“Could have skipped this one”
Reviewed 6 March 2014

I think between two places to listen for cat ru in Hanoi the other one is better. Although in both the performers explain more, or at least not less, than play, here the explanations go a bit too far, and I couldn't at all get a feeling to be actually in a musical performance. It is set in a nice old house that is not allowed to be visited during the concert - next day I came back and visited it for another 10 000 dong.
