“Conifer Boutique Hotel, Hanoi, Viet Nam: Great things can come in small packages!”
Reviewed 1 April 2013

Although the Conifer Boutique Hotel in Hanoi is very small--only 36 rooms on 10 floors, it offers all the amenities of other four or five star hotels. Our room was compact but stylish with an armoire closet for hanging clothes, an in-room safe, an in-room refrigerator, fresh fruit delivered every day, robes and slippers, a very comfortable king size bed, a small alcove with a writing desk and a large luggage rack. A complimentary buffet.breakfast was served in the tiny mezzanine dining room but it had it all: eggs, fresh fruits, Asian dishes, cereals, juices and wonderful breads.

Most importantly, it has an excellent downtown location in the former French Quarter and near the beautiful, classically designed Hanoi Opera House, built by the French in 1903, and across the street from The Press Club, a premier.dining destination.

It also offers a sidewalk eating, drinking and relaxing area, which our tour group took full advantage of. And it offeres a high level of personalized service.

That a small hotel could offer so much continually amazes us.

We were a bit disorganised when we arrived in Hanoi and had only booked one night at conifer. The staff there were very helpful in helping us book further nights (including one in a different hotel when the conifer was full) as well as a tour of halong bay, and we received an upgraded room for our first night. In particular, Chris, the hotel manager, went above and beyond to make sure our stay was enjoyable. For example, when our halong overnight stay on a junk boat was cancelled due to bad weather, he called us and ensured we had a room when we arrived back at the hotel in hanoi at midnight, whereas many of our fellow travellers were left scrambling for last minute accommodation even though they had booked package halong bay tours with other hotels in Hanoi. He always took time to see how our trip was going and give his recommendations. Best customer service of our trip!

The hotel is located close to the lake and old quarter, but far enough away from the hectic old quarter streets to feel relaxing. It also has a lot of character compared with some of the larger hotels we stayed in. Would highly recommend!

We stayed 3 separate times at the Conifer in February and March. Our "suites" were everything we hoped for even if smaller than digital photography leads to believe. The hotel staff is both kind and very helpful. The location of the Conifer is simply fantastic: around the corner from the Opera and the Metropole Hotel and minutes from the Lake and the bustling restaurant area.

The beds are very comfortable. The bathrooms are spotlessly clean though water pressure is interesting at peak hours. Breakfast is "OK". Will we return when visiting Hanoi? Absolutely.

This is a lovely little hotel, hidden on a quiet side street amongst much more prestigious neighbours who no doubt command much higher prices. Rooms are small but don't feel too cramped and its close to the lake and some good places to eat like the Ly Club. Service was excellent.

Room Tip: We had two rooms and the ones on the corner seemed to have a little more room

Ann Tours Saigon booked this hotel for us to start our 12 day tour of Vietnam and Cambodia. We specified hotels of character rather than large corporate places. This fitted the bill exactly as it was cozy, friendly and ideally located in the centre of the city on a quiet side road. Rooms were comfortable with wifi free, good a/c and attentive service. Breakfast was limited but sufficient.
Overall a lovely little boutique property.

Stay in Old Quarter without paying the high prices: it's mere steps away from the Met. We had two adjacent rooms for our group of 5 and needed every bit of the space. Will stay here again. Cons: shower water pressure and high prices of their cafe shop. Skip it and go elsewhere! This hotel is IDEAL of solo trips. Everything is in walking distance.
