I came to Vietnam with my friend. Initially we chose Rising Dragon because it was cheap and the rooms looked pretty decent. We didn't quite know what to expect from Vietnam as it was our first time so I was slightly nervous.

We arranged a cab pickup from the airport as we didn't want to go through the hassle of haggling or being ripped off. I thought $19 was a reasonable price. Our flight was delayed by about an hour and furthermore by my friend sorting out his Visa at the airport. I was relieved to find the driver still waiting for us nearly 2 hours late!

On our immediate arrival at the hostel we were greeted by Anna the manager. We invited us to seat down with her and offered us drinks straight away. Anna was very friendly and made us very comfortable. She explained that it was important to them that we have a good time in Vietnam. They did everything they could during our stay to help us get most of our stay in Vietnam.

Booking excursions was hassle free. We went to Halong Bay for an overnight and they kept our room for when we returned and even refunded a night for when we weren't there.

The rooms are clean and the bed and although not luxury was comfortable. Same as the bathroom. Air con worked fine. For what we paid, it was very reasonable.

The staff and especially Anna delivered rivalling excellent 5 star service and attentiveness. Something you probably wouldn't even get from an actual 5 star hotel.

Our stay at Rising Dragon was very enjoyable and I would greatly recommend this hostel.

My boyfriend and I have just returned from a two week holiday in Vietnam, which started with a couple of nights in Hanoi - we booked Rising Dragon Estate Hotel due to a recommendation from a friend, and had good email correspondence with Mr Son during the booking process - he also suggested Grayline Cruises for our Halong Bay trip, and secured us a great rate for a balcony room on board the boat. We also arranged an airport pick- up - which we're so glad we did. $19 dollars well spent!
On arrival to the Rising Dragon Hotel we were warmly greeted by Ana, who sat us down for a welcome drink and a quick chat about Hanoi, providing us with a city centre map, making suggestions for sights to see and tours etc we might want to book, as well as good places to eat.

Our room was great- on the sixth floor with a balcony. It was clean and spacious. Location - so central, right in the thick of the Old Quarter so from the balcony you could watch the locals going about their daily business. It is very close to the railway line - but only a couple of trains per day, and it didn't bother us.

Breakfast was delicious. Fresh fruit juices, and eggs/ pancakes etc cooked to order. In the mornings Ana came to say hello, and ask us what our plans were for the day. She's very friendly, helpful and professional. Mr Son, who we met on the second day, was just as lovely.

Our Halong Bay trip was booked for our third day - we checked out of our hotel but Ana arranged for our main luggage to be safely stored for us, and on our returned, offered us a place to shower and change prior to our sleeper train south.

We would hesitate to recommend this hotel - if you're looking for a convenient and centrally located hotel ($33 per night for a Queen Suite!)

Room Tip: High up means better views and possilbly less noise from all the beeping horns on the street!

My husband and I stayed here in April 2014. We were picked up from the airport for $19. To be honest we were pretty underwhelmed when we first arrived but the staff more then made up for it. Son, who organised our trip to Sapa by email, was so lovely and got us really nice coffees as soon as we arrived. When he found out it was our honeymoon he upgraded our room and it was decorated with petals, beautiful.
The breakfast was really good, particularly the noodle soup. Definitely would recommend this hotel if you are on a budget and would stay there again, great if you are looking for a comfortable base for doing trips such as Halong Bay and Sapa - the hotel will sort out for you and store any luggage you don't need to take with you. They are so lovely and helpful.
Also recommend Cafe 5 (if I remember the name right) just a few doors down, they do amazing Vietnamese egg coffee!

Nice hotel in the Old Quarter section of Hanoi. Clean, good A/C, hot water, staff is friendly and helpful! Nice cooked to order breakfast, includes fruit, juice and coffee. A very comfortable place to stay. Hotel provides an airport pick up service for $19; very good value and comforting to see driver standing there with your name. Anna at hotel arranged a couple of day tours for me and They were excellent, she also booked my sleeper train to Hue and tourist bus to Hoi An; very competent and accommodating, tge front desk personnel always smiled and were very helpful.
I would definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: Try for room on higher floor, less street noise!

Stayed in many hotels around Vietnam and Rising Dragon Estate is tops for it's price point in Hanoi. The hotel is well located with spotless rooms and powerful hot showers. My room had strong WiFi, a fridge and flat screen TV with many English channels. Price includes a free breakfast which is icing on the cake! Finally, the staff is very polite and helpful, particularly, the manager Anna who is very helpful and attentive of the guests.
