“3-Star Hotel; 5-Star Service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 January 2013

We visited Hanoi in December 2012. Our accommodation at Golden Wings Hotel was an extremely pleasant experience. On the first day of our stay, Steven, one of the hotel crew answered our queries about art shops and the lane to find reasonable paintings. He was enthusiastic in helping us in other questions about taxi fares, how to get to the zoo, info on museums and etc. His colleague, Mrs Ngọc Phượng was very friendly and hospitable too. She's cheerful and ensured there were roses in our room, that's certainly going an extra mile and she ensured all travel arrangements to Halong Bay was taken care of. When asked about Ho Kien Lake, she even pointed the cafe we could go for ice cream and coffee. On our visit to Hanoi, the hotel also helped us with arrangements in shipping the paintings we purchased back. The rooms were squeaky clean and it's at Old Quarters which is conveniently located. It's located next to an eatery too! We are so glad to receive such hospitable service at Golden Wings, if our family visits Hanoi again, we will pick Golden Wings 2 Hotel, Hanoi. Most staff in the Hotel speak good English.

We had this hotel booked for us from a travel agent in Saigon. We paid $35 us for the room. Its in the old city, good location. We asked for non smoking room, and non smoking means we are not smoking in the room. It went like this. Shown to room air cond was broken. Moved to another room where the smell of smoke was horrible. Moved us to another room, the sink would not flush so they moved us back to first room and went to find a remote for air cond. We had air cond on for a few minutes and turned off as the room stank of stale cigarette smoke. Shower was not hot and it was about 8 degrees that night! I didn't sleep very well due to the smell of smoke in the room surrounds. There are far better places in Hanoi and we found something alot nicer next night for $30 us. The guy on reception was a little pushy too and was rude when we went to leave. My tip find some place else.

We paid $23 for a double room and received a comfortable room, complete with minibar and food hamper...

WiFi was super fast, I think mainly because the router was in our room, but it's always a plus when you can surf with ease.

Reception staff were really helpful and friendly, as they always were across Vietnam.

Room Tip: Book your Halong Bay trip through Hanoi backpackers and go on the Castaway tour. Best thing we did i...

After travelling over 1000km on a motorbike trip from Hoi An to Hanoi, and staying in some pretty terrible places along the way, the golden wings was a great place to finish our trip. The rooms were fairly small but all the mod cons worked perfectly which is rare in Vietnam.

We were travelling in a group of 5 and all had single rooms so we didnt need very much but got more than we expected. The location was excellent. Very close to bars and restaurants but absolutely no noise in the rooms.

The service we received was excellent. The girls behind the desk were always professional and helped us with anything we needed and gave us alot of useful information about the area.

The only downside to the hotel was the breakfast. That said, for the price we paid - which was exceptionally good value, we didnt even expect anything.

I will be certain to return next time im in Hanoi.

I'm sad I've had to write this review as our experience at this hotel was ruined by one member of staff. Overall, the room was of a good standard, clean, large and modern. The issue I had was with a member of staff who was so overly friendly initially but seemed to have a complete personality change when we said we were not going to book a Halong Bay tour with the hotel, nor any onward transport. Our time then became difficult and uncomfortable. If you are lucky enough not to have this member of staff serve you, or indeed choose to book a tour with the hotel, you might have a far better experience than we did.

Anyway, we ended up moving to a much better hotel nearer the lake for the same price, with the most (genuinely) friendly staff. I would advise you to look elsewhere if all you want is a bed to sleep in and some peace and quiet after being hassled all day on the streets of Hanoi. Who wants to be hassled in their hotel as well? Not me.

Also, the 'breakfast' we were served, while the staff played computer games and ignored customers, was a stack of bread (was told there was no toaster by said staff member) with 2 very poorly fried eggs. There was no other choice. Terrible service.

We stayed here last year after Christmas till New Year. It was winter time and generally quite cold. We were at first checked in the Golden Wings I as the booking probably put us in that hotel. We didnt notice that there are actually two Golden Wings (old and new) blocks. Our room was facing the road and the noise from the street was quite unbearable for me as a light sleeper. I cannot really stand with the constant beeping from the vehicles from early in the morning till late at night. We checked out after a couple of days staying there for the Ha Long Bay excursion but will be coming back for the rest of our stay in Hanoi. I then requested a room in the Golden Wings II on the top floor and at the back. The staff attended to my request promptly and we managed to get our desired room. The heater in the room worked well which helped with the cold weather. The rooms are spacious and comfortable.Location wise-perfect if you want to keep going around the shops and lake. Love the stalls along the hotels as well, handy to get our dinner.

Room Tip: Higher floor and not facing the road.
