We booked several trips with Awesome Travel during our time in Hanoi. All of the trips were of an excellent quality. The guides for all of our tours spoke excellent English and were very knowledgable. We highly recommend this travel company.

Thank you Mr Anh and all the guides for making our time in Hanoi so memorable.

Based on reviews in Lonely Planet, we booked a Hanoi Street Food Tour with Awesome Travel. Our guide was Jocelyn (or Jaysling, we apologize but are not sure of the correct spelling of the name). The tour was fantastic - Jocelyn was great company, the places and food she introduced us to were awesome. All in all it was a fantastic evening, and a tour well worth doing.

Our street food tour guide, Jaslyn (apologies for wrong name spelling!!), met us outside our hotel in the Old Quarter. She was extremely friendly and we felt instantly comfortable as she led us to our first stop. We had a total of 5 stops (yes, by the end we were bursting at the seams but very satisfied). We tried many different dishes such as Banh My sandwiches, Bun Cha, spring rolls that we rolled ourselves, "pancakes", egg coffee... It was a great way of truly diving into Hanoi's food culture, something that can be quite overwhelming and intimidating to understand as a non-Vietnamese speaker. Jaslyn explained all the food we tried as well as the different food traditions, histories, and social customs. She was eager to answer all our non-culinary questions about Vietnam and we had great conversations that enriched our understanding of the country. Overall our communications felt more like a friendly cultural exchange rather than a lecture on her part, which made the experience feel very authentic and socially relaxed. DO NOT eat very much for lunch!!! :-)

We had planned on taking this street food tour the first day after arriving, in order for us to get more acquainted with Vietnamese food culture and prepare us for the rest of the trip.

Our guide Nathan was extremely knowledgeable and spoke some of the best English I experienced across the whole 3 weeks+ trip.

The first restaurant we entered was immediately ground breaking, the kind of place I would have stepped into myself while backpacking years ago, but not really the type of place to enter with kids and a family. Or so I thought...

The Bun Cha was fantastic (instant classic for us) and the accompanying spring rolls were really savoured by the kids. This one visit opened us up to a far bigger array of food stalls and options for the rest of our trip.

Next stop was a Bahn Mi station (filled baguettes), which was also lovely, on to steamed rice pancakes filled with pork and chicken, Xaca, duck marinated in passion fruit, Bun Bo Nam Bo (another classic, beef noodle salad prepared with a tasty broth), on passed a fruit stall and finishing with desserts, and Vietnamese coffee afterwards.

The tour cost us about 100$ for the four of us, including all the food, drinks and the guide, which is pretty good value in my book;

Given that we just arrived the kids attention wandered off after the 4th stop and we might have been better off doing this during the day, but they still stuck with us throughout. All in all the tour lasted 3 hours and a bit.

It certainly helped us for the rest of the tour and I would recommend it to anyone even remotely interested in Vietnamese Food. On top of the tour Nathan also mailed me some great recipes, which I'm trying out at home as we speak.
