Hotel is in a great location that allows you to walk to most places (eg. Old quarter, Opera House). While the entrance and lobby is not impressive like the Metropole Hotel, the interior of the rooms are nice, with a great hotel hall that opens up to the sky.

Location wise it is really in the same neighbourhood as the Metropole Hotel. They are located a stone's throw from each other. Thus, you can stay cheaper here, and still walk to the Metropole for a great evening out at their restaurant or have a drink at their bar.

Breakfast is a good spread of local and western. Prices are however, at hotel rates and costs at least 3x of the prices on the little local joints in the old quarter (esp for the Vietnamese food).

Free wifi, which is great.

Room Tip: We had an upgrade and the rooms are huge and luxurious.

I was there 2 weeks back, staying 1 day each in different hotels trying out different hotel culture there. In my opinion, this hotel was remarkable. They have the best food in Hanoi, and I fell in love with their food. (oh btw, they have the best beef noodles!) At times, I would even travel back from other hotel to come to this hotel's restaurant for dinner! The Supervisor was very nice and VERY professional. Definitely a plus to this hotel.

Apart from the food, hotel is really clean, lovely design, and very comfortable. Definitely coming back to stay with this hotel after so many awful experience in other hotel.

Room Tip: You pay what you get. :)

Stayed for three nights
Room was amazing I felt like goldielocks slep in the highest bed I have ever seen and used the chair stool to get up
Room cleaners missed a few things seemed to be very rushed
Laundry cost an arm and a leg to get done in 4 hours it woukd have been cheaper to buy new clothes or venture out to find a laundromat
Service at tge bar sliw on 3 occasions we had to go and ask the front desk to call or find the barman
The theatrics of the hotel and architecture was amazing
The best staff member was the young man on the front door - most helpful!

First of all: it is a very stylish, charming hotel with very comfortable rooms (the beds are fabulous, real 5* level, the bathrooms extremely stylish), perfect location and a roof-top pool, which you do not find very often in Hanoi. Actually that's why we booked this hotel, while staying the nights before in a cheaper hotel.

And there's already the problem: for the price you pay, the hotel really isn't that special...

- our sleeping room was separated from the bathroom by a curtain.. would have expected something else in such a property
- the swimming pool is quite small and not outside, nothing special
- the breakfast is with 25USD p.p. extremely expensive, we didn't book it and preferred a nice breakfast at one of the plenty cafe's around St Joseph for half the price
- the hotel staff is nice, but not as welcoming as I would expect it for such a price

So all in all, there's nothing really to complain about, but for the price I would definitely have expected something else.

This hotel was our final stop in our Vietnam vacation, so we opted to splurge and on the Grand Suite. It was lovely, to be sure and very spacious. Because it is an upper-end hotel, I was disappointed to see laminate flooring in our suite, which was described as "wooden floors" on their web site. It was not a big deal, but did detract from the otherwise superb decor. All of the staff were very professional and helpful. The breakfast was very good, and we liked the fact that the buffet was complemented by a menu option. The bed was extremely comfortable. Unfortunately, my husband is a light sleeper, so the traffic noise did interrupt his sleep. We booked the hotel based on it's location so we were aware that there could be some night-time noises -- but something for others to be aware of when booking. The hotel was a perfect location for wandering the old quarter, and there were several restaurants just a short walk away. We were delighted and impressed with the service we received from the hotel PRIOR to our stay. We had previously been on a 2-night cruise to Halong Bay, and arrived at the hotel after a 4-hour (dusty) drive to Hanoi. They were kind enough to not only hold our luggage for two nights, while we took the night train to Sapa, but also offered us the use of showers in their fitness area before taking off for Sapa. Very much appreciated!!

we stayed here as a family and took 2 adjoining rooms in the middle of may.
the kids enjoy the pool and comfortable beds and we love the funky new retro design of the room with exposed tubs and open planned lay outs.
the hotel is a nice boutique with some good amenities like a gym and pool with a large outdoor terrace.

we even enjoy a wonderful banquet, in the restaurant that include 12 course something to saviour.

Room Tip: get a high floor away from the traffic noisy on the 4 floor.

I was completely blown away by Hotel De L'Opera. The staff were genuine and friendly, the hotel was clean and the room we had was impressive (not to mention a ginormous comfortable double bed). Hanoi is so busy and bustling that it's nice to be able to step inside such a peaceful hotel and get a break from it all, after a long day of exploring! The location is also ideal, just 5-10 minutes from the lake and city centre. The main reason we swayed towards Hotel De L'Opera during the booking process was reviews surrounding the breakfast. We were not disappointed! A good range, good service and extremely decent English breakfast served fresh to order... you cannot go wrong with this hotel!
