I stayed one night in the dorm room before doing the 3 day/2 night Halong Bay tour through the hostel and then stayed one night in a private room. I cannot fault anything. The service was fantastic. The dorm was very narrow which made it hard to move around sometimes but the bathroom in the room was the best I'd seen in dorm room. The location is great right in the centre of the old quarter, which is busy but is also where all the action is.

The Halong Bay tour was expensive but worth it. The weather wasn't the best so everything looked a bit hazy but there was a small group on the boat and we all got along well and had a good time. The food was high class. I enjoyed the cooking class where we made fresh spring rolls and learned how to make a rose out of a tomato. I'm glad I did the extra night and experienced Cat Ba Island. There was only me and a couple from Wales so it was relaxed, the scenery was beautiful and the guide was really good.

The private room was the best value room I have ever stayed in. It was like a 4 star hotel. The bed was huge, shower amazing, tv and kettle facilities. I wish I could get a private room like this in Europe for $30.

$6 dorm rooms in the heart of Hanoi, with excellent breakfast included! Comfortable bed, quiet room, very clean, hot shower, Wi-Fi. Felt more like a hotel than a backpackers. This is the place to stay in Hanoi. I met others who were paying the same and getting nowhere near as good value.

I have stayed at May de Ville a few times and have always been beyond satisfied with the rooms. The dorms and privates (have stayed in both) are great. The bathrooms are clean, showers are great and the breakfast is fantastic! Saying that I would strongly recommend going else where when booking trips or bus/train tickets. We booked a tour "Halong Bay Party Cruise" with the hostel and were very disappointed with the services of both organizations. Due to weather we were unable to go on the cruise. That is 100% at no fault of the company but how they handled the situation was unprofessional. In Halong Bay city we were stranded at a restaurant for 4 hours waiting for a bus to return to Hanoi. We left at 8am to Halong Bay and did not return until after 9pm that night. The company demanded we pay for the bus and lunch (wish was horrible), overcharging us. Overall, the hostel did very little to make us feel like they cared about their clients (group of 11) leaving satisfied with their services.

Wonderful hostel to stay at but please look elsewhere for reputable tours!!!

Can't recommend this hostel enough. First of all, the rooms are truly luxurious for the price. The bedding is new and comfortable. It feels more like a hotel room than a hostel.
The BREAKFAST BUFFET is the best thing about this hostel. They offer eggs, noodles, fruit, breads, bacon, veggies, yogurt, coffee, juice. We loved getting up in the morning knowing we had a great breakfast to start our day.
The staff is very helpful - we booked a boat trip to Ha Long Bay and train tickets to Sapa and Hoi An. Easy and worry free, and definitely a good price. (Not overcharged for tickets at all).
Free, safe luggage storage.
GREAT location in the middle of Old Quarter.
It would be a mistake not to stay here on your visit to Hanoi.

We paid about US$41 per night for a family room (sleeps 3) during 1Mar-4Mar 2012.

Located right smack in the middle of the old quarters it's within walking distance to many sights (Hoan Kiem Lake, Water puppet theatre, museums, Hoa Lo prison etc.).

Staff was very hospitable and friendly - from greeting us when we got off the cab, to pointing us to places of interest or places to eat.

By hostel standards, buffet breakfast is really decent and good.

Only downside is the wireless internet connection didn't work for us, but there was a laptop in the room that works perfectly fine with broadband connection speeds.

Definitely value for money.

Clean sheets, clean toilets, good breakfast!
We booked for a 6 room all girls dorm, however on our last night, the dorm was switched to a mixed dorm, without prior notice.
Tips: toilets are cleaned daily with towels provided, however, try to shower early in the morning or early in the evening, otherwise the toilets would be rather dirty by then.
Great location as it is located nearby beer shops and a strip of bars.
Friendly staff who gave useful advice on trips to the outskirts such as Halong Bay and you get to book tours with them.
