Extremely well managed hotel in the centre of Hanoi in the old quarter. A peaceful haven away from the traffic and scooters! Staff lovely and friendly. Rooms very clean and comfortable. Food excellent including buffet breakfast included.

Loved it!

We chose this hotel based on TripAdvisor reviews, and it was an excellent choice. Located in the Old Quarter it offers the real Hanoi right out the front door. I wasn't quite sure what we had gotten ourselves into as our taxi wended its way through the narrow, scooter filled streets of the Old Quarter, and was somewhat relieves as we stepped into the well appointed lobby. Though not large, the rooms were excellent. The free laundry service, mini-bar and daily fruit baskets were unexpected bonuses. The staff was incredibly helpful willing to accompany us on our morning walks. The location, approximately a kilometer from Hoan Kiem Lake makes accessible many of the must-see sight of this terrific city. Additionally, the restaurant in the hotel is terrific.

We also stayed at the Sofitel Metropole for a couple of days and while that property provides all the amenities expected in a luxury hotel, I will stay at the Essence Hanoi Hotel should we again travel to Hanoi.

Really pleased we picked this over other hotels. Excellent location - 5 minutes walk to the lake, and seconds away from the street of bars, a popular night time retreat for locals and tourists alike. Their breakfast is excellent - the pho was a must for me every morning. On my last day I found out they make the stock from bones and no msg is added!

Rooms are spacious, but not all have windows. that said, all rooms have a laptop, which gives you complimentary internet access - failing that there's complimentary wifi on every floor anyway.

Overall a lovely experience and helpful staff, would highly recommend.

This hotel is well situated in the old quarter of Hanoi. Lovely little hotel with great service. The bedroom and bathroom a little bit on the small side and dark but adequate. Good breakfasts and fruit provided in room on arrival, nice touch. Good value for money.

Loved everything about this hotel. Their service is the best I have ever received anywhere. Loved the additional small, unexpected pleasures of free laundry, free bottle of wine & complementary bar fridge usage while we were there in the Junior Suite. Stayed for four nights and would definitely return. Their attention to detail was astonishing. There were five of us staying there and one person left her USB stick in her room. The hotel followed up with our tour company and got the stick returned to us somehow on our cruise boat in Halong Bay. They also arranged to get my suitcase fixed in the blink of an eye (I had lost a wheel in transit). Stay there if you can. There is no down side.

On our last trip to Hanoi, we stayed at the beautiful and elegant Sofitel Metropole hotel in the French Quarter. While we would have loved to stay there again, the rates were now in the nose-bleed range. Plus we wanted to stay closer to the Old Quarter. The Essence Hotel met our criteria. And because we booked the hotel directly, we had free laundry service and a free mini bar that was replenished each day. While the snicker’s bars and potato chips can be deadly to the waist, they sure were good! The room was very clean and comfortable. The only strange thing was the way the bathtub was enclosed by a glass partition, that left a 2 inch gap between the tub/shower area and the room. It was a magnet for water from the shower head. Plus the shower would not hold a constant water temperature. Still, don’t that let dissuade you from staying here. The staff was incredible. They even escorted me to a hair salon a few blocks away and helped me explain what I wanted done. And they escorted my husband to a pharmacy to help him buy bandages. Plus, every single recommended restaurant was very good (versus other recommendations that we received from guides). No, it is not the Sofitel, but you won’t get the personal touch at the Sofitel that you get here. So go to the Sofitel to pay lots of money for a drink, but stay at the Essence hotel.

We arrived at the Essence late Saturday evening after being picked up by the hotel's airport transfer service. The Old Quarter was abuzz with late night diners packing street side restaurants. Our room, in contrast, was nice and quiet affording us a good night's rest upon arrival and throughout our stay. The staff at the Essence are most helpful and friendly, the breakfast substantial and the location of the hotel ideal for exploring the Old Quarter and surrounding areas. Terrific value for your money!

Room Tip: Choose a higher floor facing away from the street.
