Could not find a fault with the place. Right in the mix in the old quarter, we had a spacious and elegantly decorated room that was so quiet I could not believe I was staying in the middle of hanoi! Staff were beyond helpful (one in particular who I think was called sophie was wonderfully helpful and charming). We stayed for 2 nights then went off on a halong bay cruise....even though this was booked independently they were more than happy to receive us back for a few hours when we returned from hanoi and we're waiting to take an overnight train to Hue. Speaking of which they even sent one of their staff with us to the train station to help with our luggage and show us to our carriage as they were concerned it would be a little chaotic for us! Above and beyond the call of duty but highly appreciated and you can tell that this place has staff who take pride in their place of work. 11 out of 10.

This small but tidy clean and welcoming hotel situated in the old quarter, made a convenient, comfortable and cheap stay from the noise and hustle of this busy city!
We had interconnecting rooms with our teenage children, which was adequate in size and both had separate bathrooms. It was presented in a clean and tidy manner.
The Cafe was superb in presentation, amount and taste, absolutely delicious! The buffet breakfast provided for many cultures and was also plentiful and delicious.
The staff are the absolute stand out at this hotel! All took great pride in ensuring that you were spoken to and welcomed whenever you entered the room. Sophia and Steve and (sorry I cant remember her name head waitress, in the cafe) deserve praise as they went out of their way to interact with not only us, but with all the guests in a wonderfully friendly way! My daughter said that although she felt a little frightened in Vietnam, the staff put her at ease.... Steve also went out of his way to go after his shift finished, to look for my lost glasses at a cafe on the other side of town...what service!
I hope Management realizes and shower their staff with acknowledgment and praise at their representation of the Essence hotel!
Stay at this hotel and you will experience this wonderful hospitality for yourself!

We stayed here for one night and unfortunately out plane was 6hours late so we didn't get in until 12:45am. Staff were still waiting when we arrived luckily and were very helpful.

We stayed in a deluxe twin room and the room was beautiful. Rose petals were on our beds, the room was spacious and the bathroom was clean and nicely decorated. Free wifi throughout the hotel was good.

The inclusive breakfast was fantastic with lots of options. We ordered poached eggs on toast (other options included omelette, pancakes and French toast) and also went to the buffet area for bacon, fruit and a little sweet snack. There were plenty more options and our best spread for breakfast we have seen on our trip so far.

The location of the hotel is great being in the old quarter and close to everything.

Staff are friendly with everyone greeting you as you walk by and they are all happy to assist. A delight to stay at this hotel.

This is a terrific hotel in the old quarter, front desk staff are all knowledgable and go out of their way to make to help. All other staff are very friendly too. The breakfasts are awesome with a great range of local and western offerings.
The location is handy as you can literally walk around the nearby streets and visit restaurants, shops and the night and day markets.

In the crazy, noisy, frantic Old Quarter of Hanoi is this little gem of a hotel. We spent one night here and wished it were longer. They arranged a car to pick us up at the airport and then greeted us with fruit smoothies upon arrival. Staff were excellent, room lovely with fresh fruit and flowers. Definitely recommend eating in the restaurant for dinner, meal was outstanding and server Lucy was delightful. Wonderful breakfast served and again all the staff were friendly and helpful. This hotel is a real treat.

We had a perfect stay with Essence Hanoi. It was our honeymoon and they made the room so great for us!

They were also very helpfull with arranging trips (Perfume Pagoda and Halong Bay).

Expect lot's of "nursing". And make sure to visit the restaurant also - best spring rolls we have had in Vietnam.

Ranks as one of the best stays I have had in 40 years of travel and hotels around the world.

Our Double suite 707 was on the penultimate top floor and had spacious bedroom, bathroom and lounge area. It was providing:-

Luxuriously separate bedroom & living room, with 10 meter-long balcony providing panoramic city view. The living room can be convertible for extra people.

+ FREE Wireless internet access with a laptop
+ Welcome drinks & refresh towels & a bottle of local wine upon arrival
+ Orientation map
+ Complimentary laundry service returned within 24 hours (except dry cleaning), applied for direct booking with our hotel
+ Complimentary in room mini bar of soft drinks & Beer and snacks (replenished once daily), applied for direct booking with our hotel
+ Daily complimentary fruit platter
+ Daily complimentary buffet breakfast
+ Daily housekeeping & turndown service
+ 1 King sized bed
+ Wooden floor
+ Dual split type air-conditioning
+ Two 32’’ flat screen TVs with cable program
+ DVD player
+ IDD telephone
+ Electronic safe deposit box

As can be seen, it is preferable to book direct with the Hotel to enable you to take advantage of a free daily laundry service and free mini bar

Due to being a suite, we had free range of the in room mini bar stocked with soft drinks and local beer, plus complimentary Viet Namese dried fruits which were replenished every day, and received a welcome bottle of local wine upon arrival which was more than passable.

The restaurant which by no means was large, but had everything you could wish for including several products that were home made, such as honey in yogurt and various types of jams at Breakfast time. We had planned to visit a number of local restaurants for dinner during our five day stay in Hanoi, but with the variety and quality of the evening meals at the Essence, plus exceedingly pleasant staff, we never bothered to venture further afield.

Unique Qualities: The thing above all that makes this Hotel special was the staff. The guys and girls are all young and both those serving in the restaurant, and those in the front office reception, are always smiling and with more than average English language and humour. They are more than willing to have a good natured banter which often ended in uncontrollable laughter from both sides and are more than willing to go above and beyond for the customer.

An example of this, was whilst we were standing in reception, a couple were dropped off in a mini van after a day trip and after a moment, when the vehicle had driven off, they discovered that they had left their rucksack in the van with money and passports. With some quick thinking Stephen at the front desk, quickly turned to one of his male colleagues who rushed out the door and got on his motorcycle and was off at speed. Within a few minutes this guy arrived back complete with rucksack and a big smile, as he had chased the van down and retrieved the tourists belongings, who were naturally very relieved.

The cockerel mentioned in various posts was more to us a benefit than a nuisance, as if nothing else, it ensured we got underway nice and early to explore friendly Hanoi, rather than wasting the day in bed!

Room Tip: Aim for a suite as if nothing else it gives some unique views across the Old Town of Hanoi
