“High Trip Advisor Ranking Is Well-Deserved”

It is rare that a hotel whose rate hovers around $100 could offer such exemplary service. THe staff was more than just friendly and helpful, they were proactive and motivated…and it showed.

We were given excellent guidance about everything from which custom tailor to use to taxi rates from Jack, Steve, Stephen, Sophie. We were given flexible hours to get much needed massages and facials, thanks to Suzy. I am sure I am leaving other capable staff names out and for that I apologize.

Rooms greet you with fresh fruit, immaculate layout. Location is smack in midst of bustling Old Quarter, so super convenient to walk most places.

Happy to unabashedly recommend this hotel which is run by a humble yet ambitious owner-operator…having management that is so vested in success of a hotel makes all the difference.

We have once again had the pleasure of staying at the Essence Hanoi hotel. Our first long stay was in 2012 and in July 2014 we booked in for 18 consecutive nights in a Junior Suite. The length of our stay is due to having our son, his wife and their 2 small children living in Hanoi.

Obviously many of the staff have moved on since 2012 but we were thrilled to meet some of them again and were really impressed that they remembered us.

The Essence deserves all the excellent recommendations it gets. The rooms are spotlessly clean so a big thank you must go to the cleaning staff. The bed was SO comfortable and the linen and bath towels were changed often, which was much appreciated. We enjoyed the benefits of free laundry and the excellent mini-bar and drinks plus the bottled water.

We had lots of laughs with the personnel on the front desk and they were all very kind to our family and interacted well with our very young grand-daughters. So we thank Jack, The Customer Service Manager, Steve, Sophie and Chris for all their help and suggestions when required. and then there is the handsome Stephen Long. Also very helpful and just so funny. he made us laugh - lots. We certainly won't forget the lovely Tracey and Amarita. They are happy, friendly and helpful girls and we miss their smiling faces. We hope they have a good career with the Essence Hotel. Unfortunately we did not get the names of the doormen but thank you to them as well.

The Essence is well located with many restaurants/cafes/bars nearby plus it is only a short distance to lake Hoan Kiem, which we walked around most days.

Breakfast at the Essence is first class with many buffet dishes on offer plus freshly cooked items on the menu. All dishes are presented beautifully. We really enjoyed the omelettes and the scrambled eggs and my husband was a fan of the bacon. It was also great to have fresh fruit with TASTE and the home-made yoghurt was delicious. The sliced tomatoes tasted like a tomato should, not like the tasteless ones we have been getting at home for so long. And an added bonus was the efficiency of the lovely staff and we thoroughly enjoyed our many conversations with them.

We can also highly recommend the Restaurant for lunch or dinner. The food is of a very high standard, fresh and well presented. We will do a separate review on the Restaurant.

Excellent customer care is a priority at this hotel. Nothing is too much trouble. What a shame Australian hotels do not provide the same service. The contrast is huge in our experience.

In our previous review we stated that ''there is absolutely nothing to fault at the Essence''. This still stands and we hope that we may return in 2015/16.

Thanks to everyone for a great time.

Beautiful hotel. We stayed for 3 nights and were very impressed by the service. The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. Chris (i think his name was) at the front desk was wonderful when managed a room for us to take a shower and relax after a long overnight train from Sapa. The rooms are so comfortable and tidy. The location is also perfect as well, would highly recommend.

I love, love, LOVE this hotel. I'm so glad I stayed here instead of splashing out on an expensive place. Through my work I have got to stay at some really fancy luxury hotels, but the Essence will firmly remain my favourite. You can see from basically every single other review why this place is amazing. The staffers are incredibly helpful, polite and friendly; the rooms are clean, comfortable and 100 times nicer than what you'd expect for the price you're paying. The restaurant downstairs serves incredible food - I especially loved the pho. It is right in the middle of everything, too. As you know it can be pretty impossible to get a taxi in Hanoi sometimes, and we ended up just walking everywhere from the hotel and it was very manageable, even in the summer heat. Stay here and you will not regret it.

We stayed in this hotel prior to our visit to Hoi An (where we also stayed in the Essence). The main advantage of the hotel is its location - you couldnt get more in the centre of the old quarter if you tried and believe me, its full-on as you come out of the hotel! If you havent been to Hanoi before nothing prepares you for the madness that is the old quarter with thousands of motorbikes and scooters driving erratically all over the place, we were like rabbits caught in the headlights as we stepped out, it was barmy! The hotel is almost on a crossroads in the town where people congregate in the evenings to sit out and eat street food and drink beer (ridiculously cheap) so there is an amazing buzz going on, its a fantastic atmosphere. The hotel itself is an oasis of calm and tranquility amongst all this and as soon as you step back into the air-conditioned cocoon you feel sane again. Staff are great (thanks for all your help Joe) and the rooms are very nicely appointed. Breakfast is good and we ate there one night which was also very good. Hanoi in August is exhausting with the heat so we struggled to do too much but did visit the Hanoi Hilton which was interesting, the lake, and the French Quarter before going off to Halong Bay. Best meal by far in Honoi was at Cau Go Vietnames cuisine, on the 6th floor of a building overlooking the lake. Get the hotel to book you a table and ask to sit out on the terrace - the view is magical as the lake is lit up at night and you are absolutely in the best spot to soak up the atmosphere. the food here was the best we ate all trip - go for the barbeque options - king prawns come in half kilo and kilo on the menu but they were happy to do a quarter kilo for us and they were absolutely delicious. All the other options we tried were great too - meal for the three of us including drinks was £39 and this is high-end stuff. Thanks for a great stay the staff at the Essence, you made our trip!

Room Tip: Higher rooms are less noisy, we didnt experience any noise (other than a drunk Aussie who brought ba...

The location was fantastic as your right in the action and The Old Quarter is the life of the party in Hanoi. This little boutique Hotel was a gem. From the moment I arrived to the last moment until I left I felt very well cared for by the skilled abundant staff who went out of there way to please. My balcony room was double glassed and quiet even with the active street. It was a great place to watch the the mix of activities which was fascinating. If you need to know anything about the do's and don'ts, how much to pay for things the front desk will look after you.
I also was very appreciative of the girls who organise travel requirements as I decided last minute to cancel a train ticket that I had paid for and fly to Da Nang instead. They organised a 50% refund for me and I didn't even ask them.
There was so much to see and do in the Old Quarter I wished I had more time. This is a Hotel that I would recommend to everyone because of the service, great food and fantastic location.
Even if I had a bigger budget I would still prefer to stay at the Essence Hotel. I will definitely be back and would like to say a very big thank you to the lovely staff who made my Hanoi experience a positive and happy time.

Room Tip: I really like having a front room onto the street as I loved watching the street life and feeling pa...

This hotel has a modest modern facade that gives little suggestion of what lies inside - a beautifully furnished and very comfortable building offering service second to none. The rooms mostly face the side, which keeps the noise down, and our Junior deluxe suite was a very good size for a city centre hotel. Rose petals were strewn over the luxurious bed, excellent free goodies are on offer (including some lovely dried ginger and a bottle of French-looking red wine which turned out to be Vietnamese), and breakfasts are truly delicious. We particularly liked the home made yoghurt. Only the fruit juice was a bit below par. But this place is still 100 per cent recommendable.

Room Tip: Go for a room at the side - the front could be a bit noisy; it's worth shelling out the extra fo...
