I booked the Hanoi Cooking Centre's Street Eats tour and Cooking Class online, and was super excited about it. Both classes took up a whole day, and it was the best day I had in Hanoi! (Although I was fresh off the plane, so excited about everything!) There were 5 people in the Street Eats tour, and our guide was a young, local chef. He was friendly and enthusiastic and knew everything about everything, not just street food, but Hanoi and Vietnam. We started at 9am with a bowl of Pho Bo, then it was on to the Cho Chau Long meat and vegetable market and a number of street food joints around the Old Quarter, before finishing up with a cup of coffee at Ca Phe Duy Tri. We took a taxi whenever needed, which was paid for by the company. Personally, this tour was great to get to know street food 'safely', as otherwise I would have had no idea what was what. In the afternoon, I took the Cooking Class which had just 2 people. It was really cool to get in the kitchen and actually make what I'd eaten in the morning. At the end, we went upstairs to eat everything we'd cooked. As a thank you present, we were also given an HCC apron and recipe pamphlet. I did another cooking class in Hoi An, and this one was far better because you actually prepare the food yourself, rather than 'put together' ingredients that have already been prepared.
