Excellent location, rooms were most acceptable - very clean and adequate space (except for suitcase racks) and GREAT staff. They could not do enough for us. The breakfast was not of high importance to us but was excellent. Would be happy to return here.

Room Tip: we chose a delux double at the front facing the street- very good

We stayed at the golden sun legend hotel for 6 days. It is a small boutique hotel right in the center of Hanoi. The highlight of the hotel is the staff and their service. They anticipate your every need and go above and beyond. For example, this morning we arrived from Sapa on the train at 4 am, they picked us up and even though we are no longer staying with them, they allowed us to sleep in an available room until our flight departure time and included breakfast both free of charge. We have stayed at hundreds of hotels around the world and the staff here are some of the best we have ever encountered, it just makes the stay that much more pleasant and relaxing.

After the frenetic noise and bustle of fabulous Old Hanoi, it was always a welcome relief for the 4 of us to re-enter the quiet and cool calm of this great little hotel when we stayed in July 2011. We were always welcomed 'home' by Mrs Moon or the other reception staff, who couldn't do enough to make sure all our needs were met.

Of particular note are the great bathrooms, lovely beds and linen, and fabulous breakfast in the 'penthouse' dining room. Mrs Moon even arranged for one of the staff to accompany us to the train station and ensure we were settled in our overnight cabin when we departed Hanoi. I would definitely stay again. Oh, and she also arranged purchase of a deck of playing cards for our train journey, after our limited language skills failed us!

Thanks again to you all, and best wishes.

Room Tip: We had two rooms for the 4 of us, both were identical. It's a small hotel, so I would say there...

We are currently enjoying our second stay at the Golden Sun.
The hotel is quite lovely, very comfortable rooms, spacious and with lots of natural light. The beds are a bit firm for my taste and the wifi is intermittent but they provide a computer in each room and that has great internet access.
The breakfast is also served by a lovely girl and includes a great offering of Vietnamese and Western plates. We arrived on an early flight and they offered us breakfast for the day. They also provide water daily, fruit, chips, nuts and more - all complimentary.
The staff here are truly excellent. I don't mean just friendly as that is common all over Vietnam. But the gentleman at reception that has helped us to book a great Halong Bay cruise (2 nights on the Paloma-see separate review) and booked our return train to Sapa is fantastic. He realises what you'll need done with your bags, early and late check ins and attends to all of this without you even needing to ask! He is a gem!
The hotel is as quiet as Hanoi can be and is in a great spot in the Old Quarter and very close to the lake.

We spent 5 nights in the Golden Sun Legend and really loved our stay. It was not the most luxurious of our holiday but certainly the one we enjoyed most. The staff were fantastic, genuinely interested in making sure we were enjoying the city and offering helpful advice without once trying to sell us tours or extras.

The bed was firm but not hard, there were complimentary snacks in the mini bar that were replaced daily and the free wi-fi and in room computer were fast with a good signal.

There was a little mold in one corner of the bathroom but it's a hot humid country so it is no surprise. Breakfast was great particularly the made to order pho's and other items.

The hotel is located in a quiet street just one block away from the cathedral and is close to good restaurants including Madame Hien.

We would certainly stay here again.

We stayed here for 5 nights back in Jan 2010 (its taken me a while!). But cant recommend this place highly enough. Ive travelled a lot around the world and am always sceptical when hotel staff ‘recommend ’something. But they were brilliant and worth listening to. We were struggling to find a small 4 berth boat in Halong Bay and Mrs Hue had a couple of recommendations and did some ringing around and managed to get us on the boat. And it was just as she said and was exactly what we were looking for.As we were coming back from Sapa in the early hours of the morning before heading to Halong Bay, she had arranged for one of the other Golden Suns (she was full) to find us a room to sleep in for a couple of hours (and shower) before our pickup to Halong. Brilliant – just want we needed. Didnt ask for it – but happy to accept the offer! Even more extraordinary, without any prompting, she arranged for the shuttle bus buck from Halong Bay to drop us off at a highway exit near the airport and arrange a taxi to be waiting for us there so we didn’t have to go all the way back into Hanoi and then back out to the airport!
I’m definitely not someone that needs (or wants) their hand held whilst travelling but just thought the extra mile Mrs Hue was more than happy to go to help out her guests was fantastic.

Rooms are more than adequate, the place is clean and modern, a desktop PC in the room was very handy, and like i’ve already said, you cant ask for friendly and more accommodation staff. Thought the location was great. Highly recommend. Oh and the place doing the Bun Cha on the corner (20m away? Cant remember but Mrs Hue will tell you which one) is brilliant and so too is the Pho place on the corner up the other end of the street is also great.
