It seems that I have to write a review of Jacksons every second or third time I go there, but hey its been months since I was last there, as they pointed out when we arrived. There are so many good high class restaurants in Hanoi these days that its sometimes difficult to get back to my favourite one.
It was our wedding anniversary and I booked online for dinner telling them of the occasion. Our welcome was as warm as usual and although they had reserved a prime table at the front on the second floor, we demurred as there were loud people close to it. We plumped for our usual secluded table near the back.
The food, as usual, was excellent. An offer of free wine or champagne was turned down as usual as we don't drink. Bread selection and sparkling water whilst waiting with always an offer of more bread, but again demurred as we knew the food itself would be enough. This time a butter infused with thyme or was it sage? A starter of my favourite stuffed guinea fowl, meant to be a main course, but easily shared between two. It was again a special and I wish they would put it on the main menu when available. A salad for my wife and a beef and ale pie for me - we really weren't that hungry after the rather large guinea fowl. My choice of chocolatey dessert was taken from me by an offer of a free raspberry sorbet for two. So it was just as I have now known Jacksons for years - the standards are still high. I will be going back on Friday lunchtime for my chocolate dessert!
