This is an amazing hotel, easily among the best hotels in the world that I have stayed at over the last decade. Wonderfully friendly and professional staff without the assumed airs and graces that many such prestige establishments often take on. Beautiful facility, both the classic wing and the more modern opera wing (I spent one night in the classic wing and three in the opera wing) and tremendously well managed. I prefer the bedrooms in the executive level in the modern opera wing to the standard rooms in the classic wing – simply tremendous. And the executive lounge service in the opera wing was among the best I have experienced at any international chain hotel –up there with Orient Express Hotels on this if not even better. It definitely beat the service at the Ritz in Paris by far. Butler service is outstanding. Still, the Charlie Chaplin suite in the classic wing where I ended up spending my last night thanks to the management was another world – amazing. Bamboo bar and its staff are delightful – they remember people and engage them in conversation from one night to the next. The food and staff at La Terrace are also excellent – get a table outside and enjoy the street life. I cannot imagine a better place to stay. Want to go back.

A wonderful way to start our Honeymoon, a true gem and so very well placed. Lovely decor and fantastic service. The pool area and Bamboo bar are a great escape from the afternoon heat and the Vietnamese buffet is a true culinary extravaganza !

Very nice Sofitel with great location. The bar and the pool are very good to relax and the outdoor restaurant its worth visiting. Great service and an even better experience having afternoon tea and champagne really makes your trip feel like a royal holiday!

One of the best hotel to stay in Hanoi and one which is full of history. Make sure you request for a room which faces the inner court in the historical wing. The pool side bar is nice for evening drinks but often seats were taken up by none hotel guests. Afternoon tea at Angelina is great. Pool is relative small and was full of children when we stayed.

We have to agree with the bung review. If you can get a club level room, with all the benefits of the free club level breakfast, afternoon tea and cocktails it is an unbelievable extra! If the new Opera Wing rooms lack the character of the older section of the hotel then I can't imagine what they must be like because the Opera Wing rooms were stunning in every way! It was great at the end of a hot busy day to retreat to the hotel for a swim, fine food and stunning surrounds. The only disappointment was the massage. The spa room was great but the massage was terrible. Maybe it was an off day though. Don't let that put you off though! I would definitely stay again. We loved it and the staff were wonderful.

Room Tip: We loved our king-sized room and try to pay a little extra for club level benefits as it is definite...

We stayed here for 3 days and were bowled over by the character and friendliness of this place. It definitely lived up to our expectations as a 5* hotel but we were not counting on the noise from a nearby nightclub. Fortunately the music stopped at about 1am. Location is within easy access of numerous attractions and shopping areas. Only 5 min walk from hoan kiem lake. Ask the concierge for a map. We would definitely return but ask for a room in a different wing.

Room Tip: Tell them 'not opposite the nightclub'! it blasts music on Fridays till about 1 am

All the positives you've read about service, detail, class, ambience, nostalgia and experiencing an oasis in a chaotic vibrant city were all true for us. We loved our King Bed 7th Club Floor room in the Opera Wing and all the Club Lounge extras. Sipping champagne and French wines, yummy food between 5.30-7.30pm is a bonus - all complimentary, not to mention breakfast and afternoon tea. All outstanding.

We loved the Spices Vietnamese restaurant, loved the Bamboo bar, loved it all. If you can afford the Opera Club rooms, go for it 'cos you won't regret it. The service and attention to detail is top class. They have made a huge effort with this. Hermes bath products!!!! Great location for a short stroll along the lake to the Old City. Great pool.

Having stayed ain plenty of nice hotels, this one beats them all for the combination of everything you'd expect from a 5 star hotel. Relatively speaking for what you would pay outside of Hanoi for a luxury hotel, the Sofitel Metropole is AMAZING value for what you get. It's not just the room you pay for but the whole package. Well done to the staff and management for getting it right. Service is unsurpassed. Treat yourself!

Room Tip: Opera Wing Club rooms. Face the pool.
