My family and I a group of 7 people have just spent the past 2 weeks/ 14 days traveling through Vietnam. Culminating our tour was 3 nights 4 full days in Hanoi staying at the Sofitel Hanoi Plaza.

First impression this hotel's foyer
lounges and lounge bar chairs were
filthy dirty and in a poor state of repair.

Next the staff were argumentative
unhelpful at checkin.
An extra bed was requested and put
in the room blocking the entrance.
We discovered during checkin
breakfast was an additional $21USD/person/day +++.
Considering all other hotels we had
stayed in prior to this place
approximately 3 times the cost.

Maintenance was been conducted
on the floor above our floor. We
were woken 3 mornings in a row at
7.30 am to the sound of hammering and drilling.

There are no other facilities close
by. Just dirt and filthy streets. With
dirty street cafe's in every direction

Food and beverage prices based on the rest of our Vietnam trip was
100% extortion. Thankfully a 10
minute taxi ride took us to more affordable eateries. Example a can of coke at the bar in this Hotel cost
100,000 vnd everywhere else
15,000vnd. A very short coffee cost
115,000 vnd. A coffee shop less
than 10 minutes away we got 9
coffees for the same price.

I personally think the Hotel was
charging two prices. A price for westerner's and a local price for Vietnamese...

To sum up this hotel over charged for everything. The cleanliness was poor in the common areas. No consideration given to hotel guests at all.

This was the low point in our Vietnam tour.

Me and my husband spent 4 days here at the end our 4 week trip around Vietnam on our honeymoon.
The service was excellent standard and breakfast was amazing. Rooms were spacious and had excellent views over the lakes.
Room service was amazingly served and should not be missed.

Great hotel, this was our second stay in two years and it continues to be one of our favourites. Make sure you book a club room, great service, attentive staff and good selection of food & beverages. Gym/Pool area could do with upgrading, although the rest of the property is immaculate. Location wise, yes you could be more central to the old town...but really not a hassle to get a taxi...and if you aren't shy to walk you could easily get there in under 30 minutes. Definately give yourself a minimum of 3 days to visit Hanoi, we would gladly return year after year.

Room Tip: Book an executive club room
