“Fantastic hotel but VERY disappointing spa”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 August 2014

First, I have to say I LOVE this hotel. The room was very cozy, the restaurants(club lounge and Chines restaurant) were so good, and staffs were very helpful and kind. I was quite satisfied with the pool. Ah, the rooftop bar! the view was so fantastic, I will recommend this bar to everyone who plan to go to Hanoi.
Next, here comes what I didn't like.
1. Some facilities at fitness center got rusty. need to fix a bit.
2. The location is a bit far from old square. But if you want quite and cozy place, Sofitel Plaza Hanoi would be a good answer.
3. The spa program... is insanely wrong. The quality of spa is not good and overpriced. The massage staff need to be trained. Plus, the facial massage products were not good enough. Definitely overpriced. What is worse, the massage staff suggested me to get genital massage... Omg... Such a nasty thing in a 5 star hotel? Please FIX IT!
In short, Fantastic hotel except spa.

Dear zevs2014,
Bonjour,

Thank you very much for sharing your impressions on your recent stay at Sofitel Plaza Hanoi.

We are glad that you enjoyed our room, our food and the assistance of our staff. I will pass on your kind words to the team as it will certainly motivate them to keep up their good work.

On the other hand, we regret to hear that our spa products and services did not live up to your expectation. Your experience certainly does not represent the quality of standards we strive for every day at Sofitel Plaza Hanoi.

Please rest assured that our management team takes your concerns very seriously and an investigation is being conducted.

In the mean time, we would much appreciate if you could kindly communicate with us more information regarding your stay by emailing your contact to our Quality Manager- Ms. Duong at h3553-sq@sofitel.com so we can get back to you with the result.

Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you,

Sincerely,

Stayed at Sofitel Plaza for a few days Hanoi, after staying at the Sofitel Legend Metropole during an earlier part of the trip (about a week earlier). Booked this hotel because I wanted to TRY the contrast between the historical look of the Metropole vs. the modern style of the Plaza.

Our room was modern and comfortable, adjacent to Truc Bach Lake, with a very nice view of both Truc Bach Lake and West Lake, and the dike/bridge between them. Service, as with Sofitels in general was good -- attentive without being obtrusive. Only tried the restaurant for the breakfast buffet, which had a nice variety of items, including some tasty baked goods.

My only qualm was with the location. The lake view from the room was excellent, but if you are a tourist, much of your interest will likely be in the Old Quarter or possibly the French Quarter, which a bit distant from the Plaza. Although not terribly far away by taxi, walking to the Old Quarter (especially during the hot portions of the year) would be pretty tiring, to say the least. On the other hand, the Plaza IS across the lakes from other attractions such as Ho Chi Minh's stilt house, the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and Museum, One-Pillar Pagoda, and the Temple of Literature. My girlfriend and I preferred spending time in the Old Quarter, so it was somewhat of inconvenience. (Note: for coffee drinkers looking for their western coffee fix, one of the very, very few Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf cafes that we could find in all of Hanoi is located across the street; and no, there are no Starbucks to be found)

Overall a fine hotel, and a very good value, especially for a Sofitel, but one should make sure of what parts of the city they wish to frequent, as hoofing it around Hanoi can work up quite a sweat.

Room Tip: Look for a room that looks toward the two adjacent lakes.

Dear HNLsuit,
Bonjour,

Thank you very much for sharing your impressions on your recent stay at Sofitel Plaza Hanoi.

I am glad that you enjoyed our room, our breakfast and service.

Just like you, many guests really like the fact that our hotel is right next to two beautiful lakes. Although that means we are not within walking distance to the center of town, it is very convenient to take a 10-15 minute taxi ride there. We also have our concierge team who is more than happy to help you create a tailor made itinerary with their knowlege of local attractions, restaurants and shopping adresses, etc.

Thank you again for your review. We hope to have an opportunity to welcome you back to Sofitel Plaza Hanoi on your next visit to Hanoi.

Sincerely,

Good for most types of travellers, but especially for holiday makers.
Easy to get to most places with a short taxi ride. Rooms are at a good enough quality to recommend. Staff are an asset to the hotel. Will be back!

I have been staying every year or two at the Sofitel Plaza Hanoi since the mid 2000s and it has continued to improve and raise the bar. The hotel is a 10-15 minute drive from the city center (Hoan Kiem), ideally situated on the route to/from the airport, and in a unique location at the center of Truc Bach Lake, West Lake, and the Red River, creating a sense of floating on water. The upcoming opening of the Nhat Tan Bridge will further reduce the airport/city drive time and enhance the hotel's location.

Development around these lakes, with many lakeside cafes and restaurants makes the area more desirable than in the past. A causeway running between the lakes offers a pleasant 15-20 minute stroll to the cluster of tourist attractions (Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and Museum, Presidential Palace, One Pillar Pagoda).

They completed major renovation of their lobby and mid-tier rooms, which was beautiful a year before, now magnificent. The rooftop bar/restaurant offers arguably the best view of Hanoi with the city lights shimmering on the lakes. Their breakfast buffet is comprehensive with Vietnamese, other Asian, and Western stations. Rooms are moderately sized with stunning views of either the lakes or the streets/river.

Service has been professional and customer service oriented throughout, with most of the staff speaking varying degrees of English.

Highly recommended, with a much lower price point than its sister Sofitel Metropole, a totally different modern versus colonial feel, stay at both to get a yin/yang experience.

Room Tip: Lakeside is a more spectacular view, although it gets the afternoon sun/heat. The river/street view...

Fantastic hotel with staff who are extremely friendly and eager to please. We booked two rooms in Club Sofitel and were upgraded to an amazing 2 bedroom lake view suite. The breakfasts and the free canapés and early evening drinks on the 17th Floor were excellent and the staff there really made it a pleasure to go to. They were always keen to ask us about our plans, check we were having a good time and also made some excellent restaurant recommendations. When we had to change our plans due to the typhoon they were very helpful with printing out new tickets etc.
The pool was frequently empty and the gym well equipped.
Hotel is well located with the Old Quarter a short taxi ride and many more sights a short walk.

Just finished a 3 night stay at the Sofitel Plaza in Hanoi. We were actually booked in somewhere else but changed our booking after having a very enjoyable stay at the Sofitel in Saigon.
We stayed in a junior Club suite which gave us access to the club floor. Absolutely beautiful... The staff were fantastic (in particular Hau) and we were also greeted by management.... a lovely personal touch.
We did walk to the Old Quarter (around 30mins) which gave us a good look around. Surrounded by beautiful parks!!
Highly recommend a stay...
