“What a wonderful welcome to Vietnam”
Reviewed 6 April 2012

What a wonderful welcome to our SE Asian trip. The room was excellent and very comfortable, staff extremely helpful and friendly with very good English.
We loved the breakfasts and the evening meals were amazingly exciting for us, fresh from the UK.
The lovely reception staff helped to arrange our many trips and travel arrangements. They even escorted us to a local pharmacy to help buy a specialist bandage.
We used this lovely hotel as our base for our travels in Northern Vietnam and it felt each time as if we were returning home. We would recommend the De Syloia very highly indeed.

Room Tip: All rooms we used were excellent

My girlfriend and I stayed here for 3 nights in Feb 2012. We were greeted by very friendly staff who spoke excellent English, and upgraded to the hotel suite at no extra charge.

The room was very clean and well decorated, with a great bathroom and refreshingly soft bed.

The Included buffet breakfast was great, and the dinner we paid for was one of the best we ate in Vietnam.

All in all it was a pleasure staying at the hotel and we will definately be back.

Prices are going sky high in Hanoi. This small hotel offers a good price perfomance ratio. Sapcious rooms, good service and restaurant next door (which causes smell in the hotel small minus). Very well located in the center of Hanoi.
BTW I guess this is more a tourist hotel than a business hotel location to facilities, reception area etc but nevertheless I sleep well in this hotel while travelling for business

This Hotel is a plot of cleanliness in a dirty country. The room 101 is large around 45msq with a master bed room and 2 singles bed where we have slept 2 adults and 3 kids 9, 6 and 3 y.o.. The room was clean and the beds comfortable, even cosy, we have much appreciated after a journey of traveling. The restaurant is good and at regular price (60 USD for a diner for 4 adults and 5 kids from 16 to 3 y.o. but the service has been far too long. I recommend this hotel to all families traveling to Hanoi as it is at a walking distance from the famous red bridge and the lake.

Room Tip: the room 111

I rate this a solid 3*** hotel which provides a relaxing atmosphere in the busy city, mostly friendly staff and the required necessities we take for granted, that were found missing in 2 of the 5 hotels we stayed at for our Vietnam trip. A computer was available, the restaurant offered us tea in the afternoon when we needed to sit for a bit in the afternoon, which is nicer than sitting in the lobby or bedroom. We enjoyed the breakfast especially the fresh fruit, pho and 'jook' (savory rice porridge with condiments). The staff even peeled and sliced the mango we brought in from the fruit basket in the bedroom since the knife provided was not sharp enough to use. The restaurant in the hotel seems very popular and was noisy when we passed by, but we didn't hear any of the sounds in the bedrooms. There was also a Citibank ATM directly across the street from the hotel.

We arrived early from the overnight train but they were able to give us one of our two rooms, and we had the second before lunch. The restaurant was good for lunch and dinner (spring rolls are excellent, as was the seafood). Breakfast was less good--there was much confusion over eggs, and the buffet display was a bit limited. Coffee cups were way too small!.
Rooms were quite nicely appointed, and the staff was nice. Views were limited, but it is a big city. Good location.
If going down the stairs, be very careful as a couple of steps are the wrong size!

Room Tip: If views are important, then ask for a room at the front.

We've stayed at the De Syloia many times, they always remember us, and welcome us like we are returning home. They are in a quiet location, but close to good restaurants, museums, shopping, etc. We find the rooms to be very comfortable, great beds...

The in house restaurant is excellent.

The staff, all the way from manager to desk clerks and doormen, are very pleasant while giving great service.

Room Tip: all the rooms are good
