Not a pleasant walk as the roads are narrow and there are so many motorcycles to watch out for. However, there are many sights here that will give a tourist an insight into how the locals live. I am very glad I do not live here. Life is much more comfortable and easy in Australia.

It is chaotic and fun. Sit at a streetside food vendor and just talk to people, drink and eat. Trust me it is worth the effort. The restaurants suggested by our hotel staff we excellent too.

You can be transported to the past while walking in the old streets were people still behave without almost none Western modern patterns.

Plenty of shops, cosy little restaurants, narrow streets, a blur of buildings built yesterday and buildings centuries old. It would've been a 4 or 5 stars review. But the pollution in Hanoi is now so bad, and the motorbike traffic so dense, that we could not walk in the Old Quarter for more than 15 minutes without getting nauseous. Hanoi has been crowned "most polluted city of South East Asia" with good reason.

The old qtr is a brilliant mix of everything a traveller could want! Good street food, many shops and heaps of little bars happy to sell you good cheap beer. We'll worth a visit and even stay in the area if you can.
