“Fraud ALERT!!!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 October 2013

I am reviewing this hotel almost 10 months after staying there, now that the dust has settled, and I have stopped dealing with my credit card company. I stayed here with my husband on our honeymoon in January 2013. At the end of our 3 night stay, we were "accidentally charged" in American dollars rather than Vietnamese Dong. The guy at reception tried to make it into a big joke, but we were actually charged close to $1500 US. He told us that he couldn't reverse the charge that night; he couldn't reach the bank, but he assured us that it would all be cleared up by the morning. In the morning, he gave us a credit card slip that reversed the U.S. transaction and recharged us for the correct amount in Vietnamese Dong. We thought nothing of it, as it seemed like an honest mistake. We looked at our credit card bill for a couple of months and saw nothing out of the ordinary.

Clearly it was not a mistake. About 5 months later, the $1500 was submitted to the credit card company. We told the credit card company what had happened, and they reversed the charge while investigating. Keep in mind that we were paying about $22 per night, so a $1500 bill was exorbitant. The credit card company came back to us and told us that the hotel admitted that we had been charged in Dong for our room, but the $1500 USD was for something else and had never been cancelled and was never supposed to be (what that $1500 thing was, they did not divulge). We spent MONTHS disputing this charge, and they blatantly lied to the credit card company, arguing it was a legitimate charge. Our credit card company said that unless we could produce the slip showing that the close to $1500 was reversed at the time, we were on the hook. Unbelievably, we found the slip from all those months earlier showing the USD charge had been cancelled. If not, we would now be out $1500. Nonetheless, it took months of back and forth with our credit card company to get this cleared up. DO NOT STAY at this hotel, but if you do, examine your credit card receipts very, very carefully and keep the copies for at least a year.

'Zoom' was the best and really made us feel so welcome. I stayed here with my three children aged 16, 14 and 10 on our trip to Vietnam. We were originally booked at Little Hanoi hostel around the corner but they moved us over to Diamond instead. We only stayed one night, but they checked us in early and were so helpful, allowing us to store our bags for the whole day after we checked out while we explored Hanoi and organising a metered taxi to the train station and escorting us to our cabin on board the night train to SaPa the following night. When we arrived back to Hanoi two days later they gave us breakfast and a room to take a shower and store our bags even though we were not staying - just waiting for our bus to Cat Ba. We booked our SaPa night train and also our bus/boat ticket to Cat Ba through them - cheapest SaPa soft-sleeper tickets I found at $38 and bus to cat ba very reasonable also (just a few dollars more than cheapest - but worth it for the service). They offered us tours, but were not pushy when we said no.

I had a dorm at usd 6, everything's nice with breakfast included, which i found quite good deal. The room is actually larger than what i expected after seeing the photos online. Staff are nice, that they let me take a shower before getting on the overnight bus after I've checked out.

This hotel is a little gem. The staff are so friendly and helpful, and will help you organise trips around the area, i.e. Halong Bay, Sapa, Train, bus or flights. They speak very good english and even come down to breakfast for a chat and ensure you have enough food and enjoyed your sleep.

The location is right in the Old Quarter and is easy enough to find. The maze of streets can confuse anyone but it is easy to get to. Even with the busy street outside, not much noisy can be heard in the rooms.

As backpackers, we asked for the cheapest room - 10 Pound per night. Including breakfast, wifi, Air con, keeping our luggage safe while we went to Halong Bay. The only downfall was that there were no windows in the room. Not a problem for us as the the bed was amazing, we had a fridge, a BATH! and shower and all was very comfortable and cosy.

Definately recommend.

Room Tip: Chose a room in the back to avoid noise. Try a lower floor also, there are 7 floors and alot of step...

Great place to stay in the old quarter!

Even though they don't say it on their website, they also have a 8 bed dorm room where I stayed for many nights for only 6$/night.

Each bed has an individual reading light and a locker. Biggest bathroom I have seen in a dorm room! Room and bathroom are cleaned everyday, and they also change your used towel.

Buffet breakfast included and wifi on all the floors.

The guy who works in the reception during the day is called Zoom and is very friendly, always in a good mood and speaks English very very well!

Cons:
- there isn't one power socket for each bed in the dorm room.
- some of the computers in the lobby are not working well.

Would recommend and definitely stay here again!

We stayed here 4 nights and we had a great time! Rooms were clean, omlettes were Amazing, free tea and coffee all day long. We left all our bags at the hotel when we went to sapa and they were all perfectly safe. Zoom was brilliant very nice man, always saying hello and remembering peoples names and always so helpful
The only thing i would say is shop around before booking your trips at this hotel as its more expensive then other places as some people were on the same trips as us and paid alot less!
Apart from that a brilliant stay
