“Friendliest and most helpful hotel in SE Asia”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 May 2013

We stayed in Art Trendy for 2 weeks in April with a short gap in between when we had 2 nights in Halong Bay.
Without question it is the friendliest and most helpful hotel I have stayed in in my extensive travels around SE Asia over the last decade plus. The management greet you with a smile and by name from the moment you arrive until it is sadly time to leave. They do go out of their way to ensure you have a most pleasant and memorable stay. Need a taxi? They will go out and flag one and escort you to the taxi and tell the driver where you want to go and give you an idea of how much it will be. Need a sim card? Take you to the shop next door and help you buy one. Need to know where the nearest ATM is? The boy was sent with us when we first arrived to show us where it was (just 2 minutes round the corner!). If you want ideas what to do or where to go they will give impartial advice and book trips or tickets for you.
Because we based ourselves in Hanoi and probably had a longer stay than most we managed to secure a reasonable discount and I think they would offer this to most guests if staying more than a few nights and booking direct via website/phone/email which was very easy to do. Doing it this way should also secure you a complimentary pick up from the airport if staying more than 2 or 3 nights (check with hotel management) This is highly recommended due to possible airport taxi scams.
Our room was top floor (6th), was spacious and had no noise issues at all. The lift goes to the 5th floor and then a few steps to the top. Staff are always on hand to assist with luggage should you require it.
The room was well cleaned and refreshed daily and replenished with tea/coffee/water including complimentary fruits.
Our room contained a laptop with reasonably fast connection, small fridge, mini safe, telephone, door alarm (if you didnt shut it securely), alarm clock, aircon, flat screen TV, laundry bag. The bed was medium firm in my opinion and I always had a good nights sleep!
The shower and toilet was spotless and was in pristine condition. The shower cubicle was large and the shower head had various settings including what I would describe as 'downpour' and was as hot as you could want it.
Breakfast is included and is available quite early on from 6.30am to 10.00am or 11 am weekends. There was always more than enough to eat inc delicious fresh baguettes, yoghurt, cereal, fresh fruits (loved the passion fruit) tea, coffee etc etc. If that wasnt enough then you can in addition choose a cooked breakfast of eggs, bacon cooked any way you wish plus omlettes, pancakes and not forgetting pho noodles with beef, chicken or vegetarian!!
The location of the hotel is in the old quarter which is, I guess, where most tourists stay. It is possible to walk most places of interest there which is good or bad depending on how you view fighting for space with the motorcyclists. Their main priority is not to dent their bike so you are fairly safe when crossing the road if you take one step at a time and take a deep breath. My recommendation would be to advise reception where you intend to go and they will advise going by foot or if a taxi is better.
Whilst writing I would recommend asking the hotel to book you tickets for the Water Puppet Theatre, Ca Tru traditional Vietnamese music concert (limited seating so book in advance) and of course Halong Bay. We were so glad we booked 2 nights with Oriental Sails - great guys and a fantastic trip. Another recommended whole day out is to the Perfume Pagoda which includes a river trip (open boat so use sunscreen/hat).
The hotel provides a map with recommended eating places on reverse and places we would recommend are the New Day restaurant (same street as the Ca Tru theatre) - fast and furious, try the buffet which is best value. KOTO - training school and restaurant for disadvantaged kids which is located alongside The Temple of Literature. Another good restaurant with great food at reasonable prices, with a rooftop dining area, is The Rising Dragon Estate hotel in Nguyen Van To street. Actually I think it was in their sister hotel around the corner but they will direct you).
So a big thank you to Sarah and all her staff for making us feel so welcome and comfortable during our stay in your hotel.

This is a small, charming hotel located in a good location in the Old Quarter. The hotel was clean and the rooms had a small fridge and some complimentary fresh fruit was placed in the room daily. There was a nice breakfast provided with fresh fruit, juice, bread, etc, as well as a menu for the customer to select a hot meal entree. The thing that really makes this hotel special is the friendly staff. They were very helpful all the way from check-in to check-out. They helped with sight-seeing options and anything else we needed, all while doing it with a smile. I would definitely look forward to staying there again.

Stayed in this hotel for 6 nights and was very impressed with the lovely, quiet rooms with comfortable beds, good wifi (and laptops), great breakfast and wonderful staff. All of the staff were friendly and the reception staff were so nice and attentive that I was sad to say goodbye to them all! The hotel is in a great location in the centre of old town. This hotel was great value and I would definitely recommend it to others. Thanks for a wonderful stay.

This small hotel is in a great location right in the heart of the old quarter of Hanoi but thankfully not on a main road so it is a little bit quieter in the mornings. Step out of the front doors and you can grab a fantastic Pho (noodle soup) within metres and wonderful real Hanoi style coffee, Banh Mi (Baguettes with pate and pork or omelette). The breakfasts at this hotel were great also, freshly made eggs or pancakes and lots of fruit.
It is without doubt the service that we received at this hotel that made it such an enjoyable time for us, nothing was too much trouble for them. From going out at night to find a simple rice dish for our seven year old son to making sure the driver we booked to pick us up from Ha Long Bay came to pick us up a day early when a sudden storm cut short our trip.
This is obviously not a luxury hotel by western standards so please don't expect that but for the price, location and service it is excellent.

Room Tip: We had a city view junior suite which is nice because you can open the windows and let the old quart...

I booked this on behalf of my parents. Email contact beforehand was excellent and the staff really looked after them on arrival and during their stay. They did two trips away from Hanoi and each time were welcomed back like old friends! Unfortunately my father was unwell and had to miss one of the trips and, as they were fully booked, the staff organised another hotel (which was no-where near as good) and transport for him. The location was good (central (in old quarter) but quiet), the room clean and spacious (we booked a family room) and the breakfast very good. Overall it was fantastic value for money and perfect for their needs. Thank you to the staff for going above and beyond expectations even to the point of sending an email after my parents left, thanking them and wishing them well!

Room Tip: I booked a family room on the basis of some reviews that mentioned the doubles/twins might be on the...

We felt very warmly welcomed from the moment we arrived at this centrally located and professionally operated hotel. Our rooms, while on the small side, were very comfortable, clean and well appointed. We very much appreciated the free wifi and laptops. Our room was surprisingly quiet, given the hotel's very central location in the Old Quarter. Breakfast was delicious and I can't speak highly enough of the wonderful staff and their attentive service. We would definitely stay here again, and highly recommend it to others.

Room Tip: Our rooms, on the fourth floor, were to the back of the hotel so, though small, were very quiet at n...

My husband and I stayed 6 nights and what a little gem this hotel was, laptops in every room, comfortable beds, great shower rooms, great breakfasts, reception staff gave excellent customer service beyond the norm and especially the lovely receptionist Kattii. I had my hair done at the salon next door and the young man on reception translated what I needed to the stylist the wash and head massage was superb and the bellboy even escorted us to the night train and made sure we go into the correct cabin, Would reccommend this hotel for value 10 out of 10 value for money and 3 star hotel with 5 star service. Thank you for making our trip extra special in the Old Quarter of Hanoi

Room Tip: High floor front room are quieter
