The newest museum which open from 2010 (1000th Thang Long Celebration). It's easy to arrive by get bus no.50 from Lang Bien Bus Station. open 8-11.30 and 13.30-17.00 free of charge. Can take picture by written request in advance. There are many ancient valueable and contemporary fine art. I guess museum managemanet is not well because a display is mix not separate for good understanding. However, this museum you should try!

I had requested trip advisor to include this museum in their listings. The museum was built in 2010 for the 1000 years celebration of Hanoi being the capital of Vietnam. The contents are a mix of regular historical items and other donations made by business men and collectors. The building itself is quite unique styled like an inverted pyramid. Unfortunately the interior does not live up to its modernistic exterior. The toilets are probably the cleanest I have found in a Vietnamese museum, mainly I assume due to a lack of use. Ere is a food outlet on the ground floor and the outside terrace cafe looks over a pleasant garden landscape. Somewhat of a retreat from the usual hustle and bustle cafes in Hanoi. As for the artifacts.... Well unfortunately they are a little bit thin on the ground. A mix of ancient pottery, lacquer works... And numerous pictorial exhibits. Actually, this is the part I enjoyed best, looking at the photos of Hanoi that date back from the beginning of the French Colonial era to modern day times. To see what Hanoi was like compared to modern day was interesting and so far, the only place in Hanoi I have found with such a wide collection of such pictures. Is it a must do attraction. No. But for someone who has some time to kill it makes a good excuse to get out and about.
