This is a great hostel if your travelling in a group. There is a huge party vibe down stairs, resonable breakfast and the staff at the tour desk were very helpful. We did the castaways tour to Halong which was really fun but the real highlight was the buffalo run which takes you all the way down to Southern Vietnam with Tom who is a great tour guide. It's a bit pricey but it's honestly such a great experience. Both hostels are pretty good being this one and the original but this one is bigger and has a better vibe.

Great place to stay if you're travelling alone, the place is huge and you're bound to meet new people. Run by Westerners so it's very comfortable if you're new to backpacking. A very institutional vibe, don't book your tours here as they are extremely over priced and you are bound to find a better deal with one of the many travel agencies on the surrounding streets. This is the second time I've stayed here in two years, it hasn't changed much. The food and drinks are over priced and there is a huge party vibe every night downstairs. If you're after some peace and quiet don't stay here but if you're looking for a place to party this is the place to be.

Pretty well run hostel for Vietnam. One of the few hostels In the country run by westerners and that have backpacker staff ( who are generally much easier to relate to and work with to get stuff done). Great atmosphere and good food and drink available. Would highly recommend.

Stayed here for three nights in total. Pretty slick operation - it's the kind of place that rates itself so much that they sell hoodies and tshirts with their hostel logo on.
Dorm rooms fit a very cosy 12 people, but each bed has its own mini safety deposit locker, plug, reading light and large backpack locker. Our bathroom was en suite to the dorm, which was nice and showers were hot with good pressure.
Fifth floor has communal computers (full of viruses and spyware so be careful plugging stuff into them) and a manned luggage storage room which was useful.
Breakfasts were free and tasty, eggs & toast, pancakes and honey or fruit salad. You could pay extra for things like bacon, beans or yogurt.
Didn't really drink in hostel bar as q expensive and full of 21-year-old posers getting wasted, but if that's your cup of tea...
Saying that, its quite a friendly hostel and easy to chat to people. Found the British/Aussie staff working there friendly and helpful, but some of the local vietnamese staff, especially those working behind the bar to be rather rude and contemptuous. They seemed more concerned with flirting or giggling with their colleagues than serving you.
Didn't book any tours with hostel as had already booked them.
Location is great - right in heart of old quarter, and hostel provides useful free map with all the sights on.
Generally well-run hostel.

Run by westerners, giving a familiar surrounding to first time travellers with western food and standards of facilities. Be sure to confirm which hostel as there are 2 under the same management in Hanoi and we managed to book a different one to our friends. They are both perfectly fit for purpose if not a little overpriced but perfect way to meet people. I would thoroughly recommend the Halong Bay castaways tour again overpriced but an incredible party experience you do not want to miss!

We spent two nights at the hostel for 25$/ night for a double bedroom with A/C

++
Hot water
Clean

- -
Were not provided with towels right away (were first told we had to pay for it, but was given to is for free)
Noise (party from the hostel's rooftop, they re started the music at 3am..)
Not very good service
Poor breakfast

About the tours:

Ha Long Bay: more than 200$/person for 3 days 2 nights (count actually one and a half day on the boat/beach). Totally overpriced.

++
Castaway island very nice beach and bungalows
Kayak for free
Tubing for free
Climbing for free

- -
Food not that great and not as 'fresh as described'
The staff makes you buy a lot of alcohol by playing 'drinking games' (the price is double to triple in comparison to Hanoi' price, 30.000 35.000 for a can beer)
Only recommended if you want to get wasted for two days (you'll have people throw up from the boat in the morning..)
Boat very far from being nice ! (Smell of toilet and fuel the all night)
Noisy (don't expect to sleep before 3 or 4 am on the island)

Sapa: we booked the tours, paid for it but our reservation was not taken into account .. Had to cancel going there. Obtained a refund two days later.

Stayed here in November 2013. Its in a great location and you can easily find people to hang around with if you are travelling on your own. wifi works but sometimes its better on different floors, they also have computers on the 5th floor which is a great idea. the breakfast is ok. either pancakes or eggs... and the food is quite expensive but if you walk across the street you can get a good cheap deal.

Room Tip: I was on the 6th floor in a 12 bed door and the wifi was good and the room was clean :) and you coul...
