“Great hostel - Stay was too short”
Reviewed 1 April 2014

I stayed here for one night in November 2013 as I escaped from the path of the Typhoon. The Rooms were clean and tidy and you could hear nothing of the noise from the bar downstairs once you were away from that area. The food in the hostel was good and the provided breakfast and tea was a good start to the day. A free walkking tour from the hostel was all I managed to fit in before I had to leave to catch my plane but at least I got to see a small part of the local street life and taste some of the street food before I left. The staff there were great (at the time I was having trouble with my cash cards) and did everything they could to help me get everything sorted, When I get back to Hanoi (hopefully next year) to see the bits of Vietnam I missed on my last trip, this will be the place I book to get grounded and settled again.

This place is awesome, we checked in last minute as the other hostel we'd booked for 3 nights in Hanoi wasn't good at all. Pros: comfy beds (dry -which compared to the other hostel we stayed at was a relief!) secure lockers underneath and bedside, private light and individual socket, clean bathrooms (think they're cleaned every 2 hours), good chill out room with bean bags/sofas/pool table/computers/movies, food in the bar is decent and reasonably priced, drinks are slightly more expensive but there is always a happy hour/ deals throughout the night. The social part of this hostel is amazing, fun nights guaranteed. We did the ha long bay tour which was awesome fun though pretty expensive and the 7 day buffalo run down to hoi an was also brilliant, interesting and fun. This place is the best run hostel I've ever been too, johann (manager) was great when there was a tiny issue that my bed had been slept in when we checked in (not hostels fault) and sorted it instantly. So glad 3 night turned into 6 and can't wait to return.

#central location #clean and secure #congested dorm rooms

A lot of fellow backpackers you meet while travelling in Vietnam tell you this is the place to be in Hanoi. It is in fact a new purpose built, very clean and popular hostel. It might be sociable and a party place as well, but yet i think it's overrated. There are 7 floors and the many (small) dorm rooms are packed with too many bunk beds, so there is too less space to feel comfortable. It's just huge and very commercial.

Hi Andreas, Thanks for your recent review of our hostel. I think maybe our Original Hostel would have been more suited for you as this is much more chilled out and intimate. We appreciate your comments and wish you well on the rest of your trip. VBH Crew Manager.

Stayed two nights in the double bed dorms. Friendly staff. Bar area had great communal air to it, very easy to meet new people. Made going out in a new town easy... considering bars pull down shutters at midnight to avoid curfew, they're hard to find if you're new to town. Local info and maps provided plus staff have good knowledge of area. We walked to all the main sights from here. Showers and toilets are good as new and you can hire towels/hairdryer as needed. Water tank things on each floor to refill drinking water. Lounge area upstairs for watching films, playing pool, browsing net, storing bags etc. Would recommend.

I stayed 2 nights here and booked a trip to the Sapa mountains for 2 days The rooms are lovely with air conditioning, a plug at every bed, individual bedside lights, hot showers and generally very clean. The lounge area is also extensive and it is good to relax with a movie or a game of Poole. And it was particularly useful to have a safe storage area while on my trip to Sapa. Although the trip was a little overpriced it was very well organised and a great deal of fun!
The bar has a great nightlife and masses of backpackers so it is very social. Only downside is the noise in the evening can be high if you want an early night, but it all tends to be finished by midnight.
I would defiantly recommend this hostel - for $7.50 I got my money's worth including a decent breakfast. I hope one day to be back!!

This is a great hostel if your travelling in a group. There is a huge party vibe down stairs, resonable breakfast and the staff at the tour desk were very helpful. We did the castaways tour to Halong which was really fun but the real highlight was the buffalo run which takes you all the way down to Southern Vietnam with Tom who is a great tour guide. It's a bit pricey but it's honestly such a great experience. Both hostels are pretty good being this one and the original but this one is bigger and has a better vibe.

Great place to stay if you're travelling alone, the place is huge and you're bound to meet new people. Run by Westerners so it's very comfortable if you're new to backpacking. A very institutional vibe, don't book your tours here as they are extremely over priced and you are bound to find a better deal with one of the many travel agencies on the surrounding streets. This is the second time I've stayed here in two years, it hasn't changed much. The food and drinks are over priced and there is a huge party vibe every night downstairs. If you're after some peace and quiet don't stay here but if you're looking for a place to party this is the place to be.
