I flew from Vientiane(laos) to Hanoi(Vietnam) in July 05. In vientiane airport i was approached by a person with the Thien Tan hotel brochure. He promised that a taxi would bring us from hanoi airport into the city, some thirty miles form the airport. We were told we could look at the rooms of thien tan with no obligation to stay. This sounded a good deal and we went along with it. The rooms were ok. They were clean but the decor was a spectrum of cheap, old and badly matched pieces and colors. Our air conditioning stop working that evening and we sweated through the night. the following day we were harrassed into buying a trip to Ha Long bay with them but when we were leaving at 5 am the following morning there was no running water for any type of a shower. When i arrived back from ha long bay my bags from the store room were covered in white paint. Before leaving for Ha Long bay we had booked a room for the day of our return as we knew we would arrive back very early in the morning. There was no room available till much later that day. We payed for the room for the night but the hotel knew we were leaving that evening for Hoi An( we had foolishly booked our train tickets with them on our naive arrival to Thien Tan) so they hurried us out of the room taht evening because they had people waiting to move in. Overall the staff were unhelpful and principally concerned with taking us for as much money as possible. Do not stay in thien tan Hotel if you want to enjoy your trip to Vietnam.
