“Wonderful staff and perfect location ...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 May 2014

This wonderful little hotel is a gem in the heart of the Old Quarter. The rooms are clean, fresh and quiet, yet the hotel is situated in the buzz of this mad city.

The staff here are amazing and amongst the best I have ever come across - they are kind, willing and more than happy to assist wherever they can from booking taxis, train tickets, rooms in their sister hotel in Sapa to recommending restaurants. They very kindly stored our bags for us as we went off on trips to Halong Bay and Sapa and helped find a room for a shower if they had availability upon our return.

We have stayed here on several occasions throughout our trip around Northern Vietnam and I would highly recommend it to all.

With the fantastic and helpful staff, I would definitely stay at this hotel again. Location is great in the old quarter where all the shopping and food outlets can be found. It was also minutes to Hoan Kiem Lake. As we had an early flight this morning and leaving the hotel at 530am, we asked if a simple breakfast can be packed for the 6 of us. They agreed readily and each of us got a simple pack consisting of bottled water, yogurt, butter, 2 slices of bread and a banana.

We used the Oriental Central Hotel as our base, for a two week holiday in Vietnam. The staff provided great service. The receptionists, the travel/tour advisor, "door boys", airport driver and Mr Brian at "front of house" went out of their way to make sure our stay was hassle free. They provided great assistance planning our trips and making sure we arrived at airports, train stations and other hotels on time - they even carried all our luggage and arranged our tickets - we felt like royalty !
Thank you to all the staff at the Oriental Central for making our first trip to Vietnam so easy and pleasurable.

Wow again. Location yes is v good...right in the Old Quarter. Hotel is real lovely. And true to all the other comments, the real draw point is the STAFF. Everyone is friendly, smiling, helpful, attentive and really provide excellent service. Annie, Brian, Lana, Henrry including the restaurant, housekeeping and conciege staff really made us happy. Even before we arrived whilst corresponding and arranging our transfers by Annie and then when we arrived Brian really gave us a quick overview of Hanoi and what and where to eat and where to shop, and then in the morning when Lana helped us arranged our transfer to airport even tho we were not leaving from the hotel but from another hotel and providing us peace offerings for the generator noise that sounded at 5am in one of the rooms, and Henrry helping with other issues, we were impressed and real happy with the hotel. They go the extra mile to make us happy. We will definitely return to the hotel and spread the word around. Tks all.

I'll start with the good stuff. The hotel is centrally located in the old quarter, making it so easy to explore the surrounding areas. The staff are extremely friendly, attentive and helpful, and allowed us to check in at 10am, which was hugely appreciated after an early morning flight. The room itself was small, but had everything you needed. The breakfast was limited but tasty (the omelet was the best I had in Vietnam for breakfast). We also got complimentary wine to mark our special occasion, which was lovely. And it really is great value for money.

Onto the bad, though. The hotel is starting to look a bit tired, so a renovation of some sorts is needed. And the deal breaker for us: at approximately 1am my partner and I were awoken by an extremely loud noise that sounded like a malfunctioning air conditioner. We scoured the room to see if it was anything we could switch off, but the noise was coming from outside. When my partner went to speak with reception, someone revealed that this was coming from the neighbour's AC and that it had been an ongoing problem for some time - if this is an ongoing problem, why allocate people these rooms? They offered to relocate us to a lower ground, but at that time in the morning who wants to be moving all their stuff? So we endured the noise with ear plugs, but it was the worst night's sleep we had during our stay.

I'd therefore tread with caution when booking this hotel - make it clear that you want a lower ground room and you should be fine.

Room Tip: Stick to lower floor rooms, as apparently there's no issue with noise there.

We recently had the pleasure of staying at this hotel for 5 days. Brian Do, the Manager, Lana, the Assistant Manager, and the rest of the staff at the hotel were fantastic and we can honestly say that they really bent over backward to make sure we are happy. The pick up at the airport costs US $18 which we felt was well worth it as it saved us the hassle of dealing with a taxi, and it was a 30-40 minute trip so well worth it; we ended up using the service on the way back. As has been said by the other reviewers, this is a great value place that we would heartily recommend. Brian and Lana gave us great service, we really appreciated the tips and the map provided by the hotel, the Green Tangerine Restaurant just around the corner was as good as recommended. The hotel is well located, near the lake. Keep up the great work and many thanks!

Room Tip: We had the room overlooking the street, the Junior Suite and sleep was no problem.
