To start with, upon booking online we received a friendly email confirming our booking and also giving information about our included airport pickup. The airport pickup was a definite draw to booking your hostel so well done guys.

We stayed in October 2012 (Sorry for the late review Tony!) Upon arrival we were greeted by Tony who was extremely welcoming, extremely helpful, friendly, and also generous, allowing us to eat breakfast the morning we arrived (Before we had stayed a night) and help ourselves to the tea & coffee and fresh fruit that's provided for all guests 24/7.

This was not only a fantastic welcoming to the hostel, but was a lovely way to arrive in Vietnam.

The room was great. It was a bit of a squeeze, but in the tall narrow Hanoi buildings this was expected. Our room was very well equipped, with all the essentials and everything you'll need. TV, Aircon, bathroom provisions, tables and drawers and even a plate of little cake-treats. Also a hairdryer if needed! If I remember correctly there was WiFi too.

We slept well each night and every morning took advantage of the lovely included breakfast. We were warmly greeted every morning by whoever was on duty, and they always offered plenty of knowledge about the things to do around the area, including how to keep safe from pickpockets and scams etc. Tony especially seemed to genuinely care.

After quoting around for various tours and packages we also decided to go on a trip to Sapa through Tony and then booked a Halong Bay tour with him too. He was very relaxed and allowed us plenty of time and space to make decisions about our trip. This was very appreciated and does not happen often. We went on a Sapa trip using the train and stayed at a homestay in a Sapa village. The local guide was great and the place was beautiful.

The Halong bay trip was also great, which included a night in Cat Ba island. All of which was good, apart from the guide who turned a bit nasty when we were the only two in the minibus that still wanted to do a walk in the rain. So, you'll have to come back with another vehicle... surely when it's raining it should be expected that a group will split with decisions. If you get to go to the lookout tower, do it, it's an easy walk and a beautiful view.

The Sapa trip was also let down at the end by a grumpy stubborn driver who refused to take us to the China border bridge because he "couldn't be bothered", sparking arguments between him and our very friendly tour guide.

These things are not the hostel's fault, however they do reflect on the experience of the stay there as they were promoted and offered as the better tours. I'd definitely recommend for future visitors to speak to other guests about the trips. We still had a fantastic time at both destinations, but were slightly disappointed by these 2 issues mentioned.

While we were away the hostel willingly looked after our bags and reserved us a room for when we were back. They also let us use the downstairs shower in between our trips and let us into the hostel at 5am when we got back.

All in all, everything was excellent. We'd definitely stay there again and the price was definitely competitive especially when the service and hospitality is so great.

Thanks very much to the whole Little Hanoi Team!

Room Tip: There's no lift so prepare for stairs, as the lower rooms would probably be noisier.

We are first timers to Hanoi, and was recommended this hostel by a friend who stayed here as well. For USD $22 a night, the service and hospitality was beyond expectations! Free pick-up from the airport, daily breakfast, complimentary tea and coffee at the lobby the whole day! Upon our pick-up from the airport, we were greeted by Kim. While arranging for our rooms and check- in, we were served with breakfast, you can have a choice of western or local breakfast. We also requested the hostel to arrange our 2 days 1 night tour to Halong Bay. Just tell them your budget and they are able to advise you on tour options available. Not only Halong Bay, but the City Tours and Sapa trekking as well. Rooms was spacious, clean, AC was good, May is a hot season to travel in Hanoi!! Location is strategic and is walking distance to the lakes, eateries, shops. The local bank is just opposite the hostel, which is convenient for currency exchange.

Bring your own set of toiletries as they only provide soap, (towels provided), and there are no lifts in this hostel, so prepare for some stair climbing or request for a room on the 1st or 2nd floor.

Great service, excellent staffs, highly recommended hostel!! Thanks to Kim and David, the staffs who were a lot of help and treated us well!!

Room Tip: Most rooms have no windows, so if you want a room with windows, make sure to request with the staff...

Nice hostel in the old quarter of Hanoi. Excellent staff who will help you with everything and are very friendly. Helped us book a good trip to Ha Long Bay and a ticket to Sapa. No problems whatsoever. Would reccommend!

I spend two nights in the dorm room and I was really glad that I chose this hostel. The staff is super nice and helpful! I went to an overnight trip to Baitulong Bay and I could leave my luggage here. Also, when I came back I could take a shower and chill out in the common area.
Another plus: easy to get here from the airport by cheap public bus!

If your looking for clean facilities, friendly and helpful staff, and a hostel that's easy on a budget and in the Old Quarter, little Hanoi is the right place. I cannot stress how the staff goes above and beyond our expectations. They are also very knowledgable of the surrounding city and Ha Long bay tours. They took care of arranging the tour, as well as getting us a train ticket. This is an excellent hostel!! One of the best I've stayed at throughout my 3 month backpacking travels through SEA.

Little Hanoi hostel offer an excellent service by collecting you at the airport & driving you through the scenic townships until reaching Hanoi. Once dropped off you are welcomed by reception & show to your quarters.
The room itself is basic yet clean with a decent bathroom, there is also a bowl of fruit offered in the room.

At reception you are able to organize potentially any tour you want to undertake from Hanoi City tours, Halong, Halong Bay, Sapa etc. I had the privilege of meeting with a local whom showed me most of the city sights. The main city centre lake & it’s temples are in close proximity & well worth the visit. There are various clothing outlets, bakeries, restaurants, malls, bars all within walking distance.

It is very important to be entirely flexible upon arriving as you may change your itinerary upon being presented with several site choices. This I found upon my stay switching from a long Halong Bay cruise to a 2 night 3 day Sapa trek. All is easily organized via reception whom allocate seating, tickets & transfers.

Breakfast was 1 of the highlights with freshly made baguettes, omelettes, fruit salad, milkshakes, coffee all freshly ground & the ingredients collected courtesy of Hanoi locals.

I would highly recommend this place for someone wanting to get their feet wet or a newcomer to Hanoi. Stayed November/December 2010.

Room Tip: Do enjoy a trip to the markets & dine with the locals!

Great hostel all round and highly recommended. The team were extremely helpful, with Maria helping to book our train tickets for throughout Vietnam before we'd stepped foot in the country.

Rooms and location excellent plus nice breakfast is a bonus.
