“Excellent place, but breakfast needs to improve”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 June 2014

Stayed here because we needed a place with two rooms.

What we liked were:
-Speedy internet connection
-Lovely rooms
-A huge variety of channels available
-Good array of breakfast menu/choices
-Top service at the concierge and reception
-Facilities such as washing room and kitchens essentials were top notch and complete.
-Location was good, not far from popular eateries and the Old Quarter. There was also a small mall below where you could buy groceries and have tea.
-Housekeeping did a good job.

What was average, and needed improvement:
-Breakfast variety could be bigger
-Pool was simple
-Hallway was warm

Overall, Somerset Grand Hanoi was enjoyable and a wonderful experience. I would highly recommend it to friends.

Room Tip: Choose a higher room to ensure the noise from the nearby road is minimal. Also, there is a Spa loca...

We stayed in this hotel and we found it to be great family accommodation.

The size of the apartment was great for a family with 2 bedrooms and a washing machine
in the kitchen. We could do some washing before moving on to our next destination.
It had a big pool and the restaurant in this hotel was extremely good!
My son left his tablet in this hotel and they were great at sending it back.

I found this to be a clean, safe high rise building with great amenities. For a business traveller (like me), the kitchen, two bedrooms, washer/dryer, den etc. made it feel like a place to stay. I also liked the restaurant on the 2nd(?) floor. It was a great change from a regular hotel room.

Room Tip: I stayed here several times and never had a bad room. If you are high enough, the ongoing city noise...

What a great place! We stayed here for four nights – 3 adults and a 15-year-old. It was perfect. We wanted someplace where we could all be in the same space, but not be crowded – and the Somerset fully delivered. Our 2-bedroom apartment was very spacious, very comfortable. And the building has everything you could need, including a grocery store on the first floor. The breakfast, which is included, is a HUGE buffet with both Western dishes (including omelets made to order) and Asian dishes – Vietnamese, but also Chinese and some Japanese. According to my husband, the gym was “fantastic” (and he’s pretty picky) – although, interestingly, it overlooks the Hoa Lo Prison next door.

Granted, you don’t get a “I’m in the real Vietnam” feeling here, but at this point in our trip, we were more concerned about comfort and spaciousness. And the location is actually very good – easy walk to Hoan Kiem lake and some good restaurants. We were able to walk to the Old Quarter, too. And the service is very good. We highly recommend it! My 15-year-old says it was “awesome” – high praise indeed from a teenager.

It was a welcome relief at the start of a 10 day vacation not to have to share a room with our two kids. Knowing that we had 10 days of close quarters, we opted to stay here and have a bit of space. Aside from the benefit of more space, the location was great - close enough to everything but yet far enough removed walking outside wasn't completely overwhelming. Breakfast was good with a nice variety if dishes. We even ordered room service for lunch when the kids were tired and didn't want to go out. It was actually pretty good and reasonably priced for hotel food.

The only reasons we wouldn't give it 5 stars is the bathrooms are dated, the showers backup badly (might be a Hanoi thing though) and things like baseboards and paint weren't well finished. That being said unfinished by western standards construction seems to be fairly common even in brand new hotels in Vietnam. We saw it in every place we stayed.

Quite gloomy when we arrived in Hanoi, however the Sumerset Grand Hanoi made up for the weather. Great facilities, the teenagers enjoyed the free WiFi and the buffet breakfast every morning had a good mix of traditional Vietnamese and western style food. Staff were friendly. Ticked all the boxes for a family of 6. The washing machine/dryer was a bonus especially when we returned from our family trip to Halong Bay.
The hotel was in a great location, within walking distance of the old sector of Hanoi. A good base for visiting the Hoi Chi Minh Mausoleum, water puppet theatre, opera house and the Vietnam National Historic Museum. Highly recommended.

Arrived in Hanoi at the end of our trip to Vietnam. Hanoi was grey and overcast however this hotel was not, it is exceptional. The 2 bed executive apartment was brilliant could not believe the space given and we even decided to stay in and ordered pizza from the restaurant, which was delivered to us. Breakfast was good with wide variety of food on offer( the omelette lady needs to speed up.)
We even left our luggage with the hotel while we went off to Halong Bay for a night which was great as we only took what we needed. On return we were given a free upgrade to a 3 bed executive which was enormous only shame was we didnt really use it. The apartments are kitted out and they even provided washing powder so the clothes we were giving away got washed!
Around the corner from reception is a supermarket so all water, crisps & beer could be bought.
Only criticisms of the hotel is the pool is cold & they give different rates of exchange depending on what denomination of dollar you are changing which we had not come across while in Vietnam although we learned there is a 2$ bill.
We booked our City Tour through Hanoi kids (Uni students) who were great and offer a free service you pay for taxis, entrance fees and lunch and a donation to the organisation if you want.
