The location of the Queen II is very good, you are already in the Old Town and only a few minutes walk to the Lake.
BUT
There is no elevator so good luck if you stay at a higher floor.
Our room looked at first sight ok, but if you took a closer look at the linen and pillows, they didnt seem washed. They bathtub was as well dirty. We had a nice TV even you don't really need one if your visiting Hanoi. Our AC didn't work, there was only a small window but the only thing you could see were all the ACs from the other rooms and in the morning you smelled the food they prepared in the kitchen.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 3 nights in Oct/08 and had a perfectly 'average' experience. For the price, the rooms are adequate (size, cleanliness), the location is very convenient, and the staff were reasonably professional. I have no real complaints. FYI, the hotel has 5 floors, but no elevator. If you don't mind not having a window, ask for a back room in order to keep street noise to a minimum.

We booked this hotel from Hanoi Airport. At first the staff seem young and friendly and helped us book a trip to Halong Bay and a night train to Danang for a few days later. On the day of our departure it turns out the "manager" had not booked our train tickets yet, thus our intended train was fully booked (even though he told us the station had called him to say the times had changed - LIE!) and not direct. He also charged us extortionate commission on the tickets and a further $10 to use a room to shower/change before taking the train...which we never used since we had to take an earlier train. DISHONEST STAFF! DISHONEST PRICES! As we left, a French family had been left waiting 2 hours because the staff said they did not have a record of their booking (which they had actually made months before). I hope they did not stay there.

Be aware that there are several Hanoi Queen hotels. I noticed that the photo of the front of this hotel is NOT the correct hotel. The Hanoi Queen 2 (or Queen Plaza) is on Hang Can. It is terrrible! The duvet covers do not appear to be washed on a regular basis, there was a mouse in my room, the toilet leaked water from the bottom all over the bathroom floor, walking around my room in bare feet left the soles of my feet black with dust and dirt, the staff, though helpful, was not very professional.... If you book the Hanoi Queen, be sure it is NOT the one on Hang Can.

I booked this hotel based on location and price. It was very inexpensive and close to the lake. The room was very large and the standard room had both a queen and a single bed in it. Plus, the television had a DVD player. There was a full bath in a large bathroom.
However, the bathroom was oddly linked to the room by a meter or so long mini-hallway. On one side there was just a plain wall, but on the other side was glass looking down to a storage room. I'm sure it was because it was remodeled and added on, but since we were on the second floor, I think if anyone was in the storage room, they could have seen us. Hence, get dressed before leaving the bathroom.
The front desk was very intent on selling tours. We did go on the Ha Long bay tour they offered and it was very nice. We had one of the best looking junks on the pier and the food was amazing. Basically, their advice and tours were very nice, even if a little over-zealous.

But, this hotel is not for late or light sleepers. The sound really echoes up the corridor, especially from the once-grand wooden staircase going from the first to second floors. You can hear every foot step going up or down. Plus, being on the second floor, we heard everything that was going on in the front desk area. The employees also put on music at 0700 and we could hear it very plainly. If you do stay here, I would advise asking for a higher floor where I think it would be much more quiet.

Breakfast was OK, but for free it was not bad. They would serve it until 1400, so it was nice for the night owl.

All in all, it wasn't bad but wasn't that great either.
