I stayed here 5 times each time on transit to trips of Northern Vietnam.

I booked all trips through the hotel. The Harlong Bay Trip was over priced but others were cheaper then others on my trip. All trips were extended by extra days.

The Staff were were all helpful and friendly.

The location was very handy.

The rooms were clean, quiet and cheap.

Thank You Mrs Huong and all your staff :-)

Room Tip: I stayed in room 201 for all my stays. When the room was not ready I was asked to shower and rest...

Got moved here for 1 night when the Kangaroo Hotel was full, so I wasn't charged for the stay. Room was clean, bathroom and shower were good. Location is good, in the old quarter of Hanoi, within 2km of all the major sights.

Stayed here for a night in late December 2013…
Was moved here from Kangaroo Hostel as one of their guests had requested for a late afternoon check-out…
Location was okay - street appeared to be lined with hardware stores / mechanics...
Was given a level 2 room at the back of building - no view but was decent, clean, and quiet...
Cable tv worked fine, but shower was intermittently hot / cold...
Day female concierge was really nice, pleasant, and friendly…
But male concierge who appeared to have taken over the afternoon shift through to evening was less than satisfactory…
He first tried to overcharge me for my room by rounding off the sum of the outstanding payable – unsuccessful attempt…
He then imposed a higher exchange rate which is unlike any other that I’ve been quoted throughout my travels across hanoi, whether through shopping or other outstanding accomms payable…
When I challenged his VND rate, he rebutted but quickly lowered it; though still slightly higher than usual…
Had to also repeatedly ask for the air-con remote control at least 5 ~ 6 times before he begun searching for one, and as it turns out, the air-con barely worked…
When I persisted in my requests for the air-con remote control, he just kept nodding and tried to brush me off by offering a morning call at 0600 the next morning (I had to leave early for the airport)… Of course, the call never came…
Would I stay here again? Probably not.

We have been guests in this Hotel in 2011 and 2012 and now this time again in 2013.

We booked our room via phone a day in advance and the owner itself confirmed to have a Superior Room for us for 15USD, after a short mail exchange the room was booked and we thought we would get what we paid for...

After arriving at the Hotel one of their employes told us that they only have one room left, but if we come for more than one nights again we will have a nicer room...
What we actually got was a standard room and actually their worst one, up on the 4th floor without any window or anything working in their.
The Aircondition seems to be broken as it was running on full power no matter what you tried to set via the remote. The fan had no blades so it was senseless to use it. There was not a single power outlet in the whole room and the bed was uncomfortable. The walls were already destroyed from bad construction so the paint was already about to get off the wall and the lighting was unreliable coming from a neon tube.

After talking to one of their employes again they also told us that we wont have a breakfast included and we would have to pay 7 USD if we want to have the breakfast, which is a small baguette and a lime juice ...

Best thing in this one night stay, in the middle of the night a woman started to yell until she lost her voice from the ground level up into the staircase. Nobody from the reception cared a thing about this, some other guests ended up bringing her out of the hotel after nobody else took care of her...

Honestly, I will never come back to this place as the rooms are really not up to any standard as they haven't done any renovation in years and they still increase their prices as if they were a 2 or 3 star hotel ...

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else

Stayed here for 7 nights, everything was plain sailing until check out. They over charged for the beer from the fridge in the room, that I can take. The rest I cannot. When the receptionist was calculating the bill the exchange rate was 22000 instead of 21000, we got into a heated row. I had to bring him over to the computer to show him the exchange rate, he backed down. Next he tried to tell me that I had stayed 9 nights instead of 7. Another row ensued but he backed down. Next up the laundry. I was told the rate was 14000 per kilo when I used the service, upon checkout this figure had risen to 40000, apparantly I missed-heard the lady she said 40 I heard 14 blah blah blah..... We argued and fought over everything, they tried to squeeze every last dong they could out of me. In the end I conceded very little to them, but the situation left a bad taste in my mouth and tainted an otherwise ok stay. Spare yourself the grief, do not bed down in this place. They will smile in your face and screw you at every turn! You have been warned!!! Safe trip

I was staying in hanoi working for 2 weeks. After staying in one hotel that was damp and felt dirty, we looked around at lots of hotels ranging from $11-25 and this was by far the beat value. It seemed pretty hard to find a room for less than $15. Camellia v was clean, the staff were very friendly and helpful (and didn't hassle you to buy their tours) and the place was peaceful. It's by no means a luxury hotel but a good cheap place.

We stayed at camellia 5 for 2 weeks and paid 11 dollars a night for a twin room which was a decent size with private bathroom and fridge and tv. We looked at about 6 other hotels in this price range and camellia was definitely the least damp and had the biggest rooms. Major downside was the smell of cigarette smoke. The staff were really friendly and boiled water for us to make hot chocolate and pot noodles - great for sticking to a tight budget! They weren't at all pushy about booking any tours etc.
