“This is our second home in Hanoi!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 March 2014

A calm and relaxing haven in the heart of Hanoi's bustling Old Quarter.

We found this hotel completely by accident. We had been living in Hanoi for 9 months, teaching English and travelling by all over North Vietnam by motorbike, we only have 2 weeks left in Hanoi and we stayed here!

After a full day of checking out various places of varying price and quality we had had enough and settled on two or three fairly standard, low-cost hotels. None of them were particularly inspiring, but they were cheap and gave us a bed to sleep in until we left. As we started walking back to where we'd parked the motorbike, something caught our eye in the foyer of a small building; several vintage European mopeds. These are basically antique motorised bicycles with small petrol engines, extremely common in France from the 1930's to the 1960's, but quite rare to see in Hanoi, even with the history of French occupation years earlier.

The owner, Mr Thuc, is an architect who now teaches at Hanoi university and he has designed every inch of the hotel himself. He is one of those rare people who emanates calm and kindness from every part of his face. You can't help but smile when he talks to you!
On the first floor is a dining room and social space with a traditional low table, countless Asian and Indian artifacts and an upright piano which he is more than happy for anyone to enjoy playing. On the top floor is a beautiful rooftop garden with plants, flowers and a bamboo shelter.
All of the bedrooms are designed and decorated with the same care and attention as the rest of the hotel with big, comfortable beds (and soft western matresses!) The furniture is a mix of hand-carved and bamboo. In the bathrooms everything is considered, from the jet spa bath and stone-tiled floor to the hand-crafted soap and shampoo jugs from nearby Ba Trung Pottery Village.

If you are looking for a special place to stay where you can relax in piece and enjoy genuine Vietmese hospitality coupled with South East Asian Buddhist philosophy, yet still be right in the middle of Old Hanoi...This is the place for you! And please tell Mr Thuc that we're looking forward to repaying his kindness and hospitality in the Philippines in the next couple of years. Namaste!

Room Tip: You can ask Mr Thuc, the owner, a special rate if you plan to stay long term in Hanoi.. It's eit...

We are backpackers travelling for many months. We arrived in Hanoi as it was getting dark and we needed somewhere to stay. We stumbled across this place and fell in love with the delux room. It was spacious with beautiful artistic decor. It's the small touches that really counted, the amazing soaps, good coffee and the quiet atmosphere. The owner was very welcoming. We thoroughly enjoyed our night of luxury and would recommend this place to others who are travelling on a not so tight budget. There's also a cute turtle in the rock garden downstairs and apparently a rooftop garden which we didn't have time to explore.

Great hotel with a lot of old school relics and motorbikes and books. The rooms are comfortable, nice and clean. But more than anything the staff is really helpful and go out of their way to help you. They helped us with great suggestions for restaurants, booked our Halong Bay trip, upgraded our room when we came back and booked our cab to the airport. very pleasant and efficient. Recommended hotel.

Room Tip: The rooms on the higher floor were nice/

If you like your hotels with character and staff who can help you out with any issues you might have related to your stay, you won't go wrong staying at the Queen Hotel. If you're familiar with Hanoi even a bit, you know that its populated mostly by motorbikes going ever which way, and so its quite a bit fun to enter this hotel and find all floors populated by motorbikes from all eras, and beautifully so (the Owner is an architect and art collector).

The staff is wonderful and speak very good English; they helped me to plan my first week in Vietnam, and i found their tours to be very good and lead by very knowledgable guides who also spoke good English. Mr. Linh in particular is a very warm person who you'll get to know very soon, and was such a good help to me in my planning.

My room on the 7th floor was quiet and clean, though it wasn't without issues, such as a noisy air conditioner i didn't run at night, a TV that didn't work well, and slow faucet, but i just don't put a big premium on the gadget side of things; if the place is clean and the plumbing works, i'm fine. I'm giving Queen Hotel a full rating because it was my favorite place of all the hotels i stayed in, such a cool and central place to be in Hanoi, and superb staff. Don't hesitate to book here.

Room Tip: The street side could be noisy, especially on the lower floors.

Been around the block a few times and this is a place you just dont let pass you by. The staff here is fantastic. The hotel architecture is magnificent and apparently designed by the owner. There is so much great life just out the door and its basically walking distance to the whole city.

I stayed here for a few nights during a trip to Vietnam with Vietnam Travel Plan and I really enjoyed my stay here.

The staff were kind and friendly and happy to help, from the moment that I got there until when I left. They were helpful with directions, tips on places to eat and visit and helping me arrange any transport that I needed. Although, I rarely needed to arrange transport as the hotel is really ideally located and I was able to walk pretty much everywhere. It's located in the old quarter, so you are close to the bars and restaurants - but it isn't noisy.

The room itself was lovely, and it was really authentic. The decor was lovely and it had all the necessary amenities. There was even a computer in the room connected to WiFi with Skype and everything set up which was really handy as it meant I didn't have to find an internet cafe.

One of the nicest things about the hotel was the 'love garden' on the 7th floor, the perfect place to go and watch over the city and get some fantastic views.

I would recommend this hotel for anyone travelling to Hanoi.

Queen Hotel is ideally located for exploring the Old Quarter and nearby areas of the city. Many places of interest, restaurants and souvenir shops can be reached by walking. The staff are friendly and are happy to organise transport and tours if needed. The rooms are good, although the beds are quite firm. Breakfast is adequate, but not the type where you can load up for the day and not worry about eating until dinner time. The historic push bikes and motor bikes that decorate the place are interesting in their own right. There is a money changer next door, above one of the many jewellery shops in Hang Bac Street. Internet is free, but very slow.

Room Tip: There are two rooms on each floor. The front rooms, closest to Hang Bac Street, are tight for space...
