Sofitel Hanoi may have the colonial atmosphere, this InterCon trumped on scenery, quiteness and high ceiling-highest in any hotels, balcony. Great lounge benefit for club room, friendly staff, wonderful gym, nice path to walk around

Location is not great but some charming cafes/restaurants not far away.

Reasonable price for the property- better value than Park Hyatt Saigon

My first trip to Hanoi, and I generally gravitate to Intercontinental Hotels properties, especially in Asia. Service levels in Hanoi are not to the same standard as big eastern Chinese cities, or even Ho Chi Minh City, but the effort was clearly apparent.

Had an overwater room. Got the hotel to unlock the window (I prefer the air and sounds of the world around me when sleeping) and I had a very comfortable three nights here.

I found the breakfast buffet the usual high quality IC performance. And the one room service experience was above par.

The hotel provided a complementary car back to the airport on departure, a nice touch.

My friend and I stayed there for one night before heading down to Halong Bay and I must say I loved nearly every minute of the stay. The room itself was beautiful and the view from the balcony over the lake was specular.

We were going to explore Hanoi but ended up laying on the outdoor beds sipping cocktails and watching the sun go down over the lake! The buffet breakfast was probably the best I have ever had. Also on the Sunday we went back for Sunday Brunch, which was specular. It costs USD 35 each (including Service Charge and VAT) which may sound like a lot, but considering drinks (including some alcohol) are included, this wasn't bad. It was a packed dining room which made for a very enjoyable atmosphere.

My only complaints were that you were charged a lot for internet use (around USD 18 for 24 hours I think) and that the dinner in the Milan restaurant was distinctly average.

Besides that we had a wonderful stay!

Stay away. This is one of those places where you feel terrible that you spent all that money to be treated sovery poorly. When we arrived the bell boys who brought up the luggage threw it into the room and said "too heavy". Little hoodlums. The whole place lacks the level of service that one would expect at that price. Plus its a cab ride to go anywhere. So you are essentailly captive with a staff who has no interest in you at all. We were with a small group and none of us could get hot water in the afternoon! Everyone in the group had the same experience. The most common reaction was what a rip off. Very little English spoken by any staff. Spend the money and stay at the Sofitel Metropole where the serice is great.

we stayed at the hotel for 3 days. The first day, we booked a room overlooking the lake. You have to know that the hotel is 10 minutes away from town and near local houses. We had a dog barking ALL NIGHT long on the first day. The rooms are not double glazed, so you hear all the noise as if your window was opened! and there is the WHOLE isle like that. We complained to the duty manager and i asked to see the manager in the morning. When i turned up, nobody was there and I had to explain the whole story all over again. We were put in a room further out from the isle, and it was quiet.

The service is not great for the price they charge. The hotel has been running for 11 months now, but the management is not up to stratch. The prices are expensive. On the last day, we had reflexology massage, and the lady asked for a tip in cash, which is strictly forbidden by the hotel policy.

All in all, this hotel looks great,; but the service lacks professionalism. I felt like a cash cow when I was there, and the hotel is too far away from the city center.
Most of all, I would never stay at this hotel again because I cannot contemplate paying 400 USD a night to hear a dog bark all night long.

We just returned from Vietnam, Hanoi to be more precise. While there we stayed at the new Intercontinental Hotel. Wow!! These guys have really done it well. For the high-end, there's only the Metropole (downtown) and the Intercontinental (WestLake). Our very capable travel agent, Mr Bac of FriendlyVietnamTravel.com recommended that we book the club room with lake view. The club room package included a great and very private buffet breakfast, free internet and an impressive lounge and facility. This was indeed a good call- we paid a bit more but the benefits were well worth it.

A beautiful hotel set on a lake ten minutes from Ha Noi central. Many of the rooms are over water, providing beautiful views from balconies. The interiors are Minimalist Asian, and possess all the latest mod cons.

In terms of facilities, the Sunset Bar was absolutely beautiful. The gym was as good as any I've seen in a hotel. The pool was beautiful as well.

The staff were very attentive and attractive, and made my stay very enjoyable (to the point I extended my stay).

Additionally, I found the hotel to be very good value for money.
