Stayed at Sherwood Residence for 8 nights with my wife, mother-in-law and 2 young children (age 3 and 1).
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sherwood and would definitely return when we return to Saigon. Was a treat to come to the Sherwood as our 'escape' from the bustle of downtown Saigon and get some much needed 'R&R' and downtime with the kids in amongst our trip
- Combines the space and comfort of a serviced apartment with the luxury of a hotel
- Spacious and well appointed apartments - we were also upgraded to a 3-BR apartment at check-in
- Excellent facilities - we used the pool and kids playroom each day
- Breakfast each day was varied and plentiful - only feedback on breakfast is that although breakfast is available from 6-10am each day, the staff were essentially still setting up at 6am, so much of the hot food (incl noodle broth) was not yet warm. With the young kids we were up early each day at usually at breakfast around 6am. Also, breakfast starts 30 mins later on Sat/Sun at 6.30am - we weren't aware of this and got caught out
- Room service was also an unexpected treat and very handy with the kids to ensure that they were well fed before we ventured out to sample Saigon's fabulous street food
- Another point inside the rooms which caught us out a few times is the hot water system needs to be manually turned on and the switch looks similar to the light switch next to it
- Location is excellent - short walk to all the sites of District 1, but far enough out so things are a bit quieter in the evenings
- Staff were very friendly, all speak excellent English and we enjoyed our stay

Sherwood Residence is an amazing block of serviced apartments, offering an oasis of luxury in the middle of a very hectic city. The apartments seem designed for ex-pats who have brought their families to Saigon, offering a safe location with great amenities.

From the moment we walked into the reception, with its water fountain and high ceilings, through to the elevators with a pleasant aroma of melon, to the fully furnished apartment with a balcony and plenty of air conditioning -- we were in heaven!

My family of four stayed in a 3-bedroom apartment, which also had a very large lounge/dining room, two bathrooms, kitchen, laundry with washer & dryer, two televisions, a DVD player and good storage. While we only stayed for four nights, the accommodation would be excellent for long-term stays, too.

A buffet breakfast was included in our rate, which was small (since most residents use their own kitchen) but was extremely fresh -- continually being restocked with fresh items as they were consumed. The breakfast featured a range of Western and Eastern foods, with an egg station and alternating fresh waffles/pancakes.

The property features an outdoor (yet mostly covered) pool, a children's pool, an excellent gym, a billiards table, table tennis table, a DVD library, a book library and even a mini-cinema for up to 20 people (extra charge applies for the cinema).

An hourly shuttle bus goes to/from the city, but the taxis are fast and very cheap.

We enjoyed the location, being close to the War Remnants Museum and other tourist locations. It is possible to walk into the city, but you'll have to dodge motorcycles and poorly maintained sidewalks.

There is a large Co-op supermarket opposite the back entrance, which is great for stocking up with food and drinks. There is also a restaurant (highly rated on TripAdvisor) on the same block called Sadec Quan, which serves great noodles.

Bottom line: If you can afford it, stay here!

Here we go ...

The Service - let's start with the reception staff on our arrival. While we booked in advance there was some discrepancies on our arrival. We had to resolve the issues on the day we arrival which did cause a headache. Although the reception staff was helpful, it did end up costing us a little bit more than expected. When we got to the room, the floor wasn't as clean as we expected as we can feel it with our bare feet otherwise the room was tidy and clean as we expected. Having said that for the rest of our one month stay house keeping did do a pretty good job. Staff were always polite, some were very helpful (eg. the doorman who always greeted us with a welcoming smile; the 3 pool attendants who were always attentive; the reception and club house staff who were a pleasure to deal with; the security staff who were friendly but diligent; the maintenance staff who were always extremely efficient).

The Room - the room has been refurbished since we were there 3 years ago and was very elegant with a nice view is Saigon. We requested for a quiet room and our wish was granted. The kitchen was well equipped which we did make good use of as we like eating our some time and dining in some time.

Location - fantastic location as within walking distance to some tourist and nice restaurants and cafe (Western styles and Vitenamese style). However, as it is located between Pasteur and Nam Ky Khoi Nghia it can make a difference if you know where you want to go and hence which street to depart from. We always check the map and GPS to make sure.

Amenities - Excellent. This is one of the main reasons for our return to this place. It is a luxury residence and there's hardly a dull moment as we are always doing something when not going out like playing games (pool/indoor golf/table tennis) in the game room or swimming.

Our favourite - the staff, the swimming pool, the location. Cindy the manager was very attentive and efficient. She gave me a few good tips of where to go and I thoroughly enjoyed some of the places recommended.

Our dislike - one of the older staff was pretty hostile. We think he's a house keeping supervisor. He never smiled, not once, and never say anything when we say thank you to him. Whatever he did for us, he did not appear to want to do it and always left us feeling bad as if we have caused him great inconvenience. He did an inventory check for us and that was not pleasant. I kinda dreaded it when the staff say they have to do another check when we leave as I didn't want to deal with him again.

Overall, it was a fantastic stay with only minor issues for improvements. We highly recommend this place and would definitely return on our next visit.

The photos of the Sherwood do not do it justice. My cousin stayed here and recommended it to me but when I saw the photos, I thought it looked old and daggy. Not so! Sherwood is beautifully designed and maintained. Staff are faultless, facilities modern and well kept and the location is prime.

We will definitely stay here every time we come to HCMC.

tldr: Would stay again; awesome experience.

Reception Desk / Check in:
Flying into HCM we arrived at about 1AM; the staff was expecting us and greeted us by name; which was pretty amazing in my opinion.

Room Accommodations:
We stayed in the 2 bedroom executive suite and after such a long flight we were very pleased with the accommodations. The room handled 3 adults and 2 kids well.

Breakfast 6AM - 10AM:
Very good selection and an egg station where you can get your eggs made however you want. They also have a coffee machine that brews Vietnamese style coffee.

Fitness facility (6AM and 10PM):
One of the most comprehensive facilities I've seen. I wish all fitness facilities were like this one. They have the regular treadmills, but they also have a varied selection of weight machines (row, leg extension, bench press). They also have 1 adjustable bench, 1 decline adjustable bench and a full range of weights (5 lbs - 50 lbs). What really makes it complete is the bench press, standard bar and a full plate set (2.5 lbs all the way up to 55 lbs)

Internet:
There's a public area wireless and also a private wireless that you authenticate using your room credentials. Internet was rock solid throughout the premises. I've never had so few problems with a Hotel network before.

Neighborhood:
There's a lot in this neighborhood, on the same block without crossing the street are a lot of pretty good restaurants. We went to Nhà hàng Seoul Garden which was pretty good and Sadec Quán.
