I stayed several two starts hotel, and Ho Sen is the best among those (Thuan Thien and Hien Anh). The room is clean. Location is accessible to main streets like Hai Ba Trung, Le Loi, and Dong Khoi street. Since it is located on one way street, it's safer to cross the street. Breakfast is good, too.

Incredibly good value, one street back from the river, near ANZ bank and quick walk to many places of interest. We stayed in the VIP Family room 70sqm very large, incredibly cheap, basic but varied buffet breakfast included. Catch number 1 public bus 3,000dong per person to market in Chinatown, great selection and prices, way better than tourist market. Clean boutique hotel with friendly staff

I stay at this hotel for two weeks. The location is terrific. I enjoy eating at New World and Sheraton with hotel owner membership for price of 2 for 1. Sheraton just one block away. Bus number 2 take you right down to Ben Thanh market for 5 mins. You walk to downtown to enjoy cheap or expensive boutique. Five minutes by bus number 2 to Saigon Square. This is place you pay good price for brand name clothings. Good quality too. It also near big foreign bar, apoclipnow and alot of good restaurant around there. Bus number 1 take you to Cho Lon and Binh Tay market. it's very convience and save you alot of money to travel around area.
The price I paid for two weeks is 23 dollar per night without breakfast. The reason I didn't want their buffet breakfast because I want to enjoy Vietnamse food as much as I can. The owner is around 24/24. Therefore you don't have to worry about your safety and other matters. The room is good for 2*. If you want to live monthly, there's also special. I heard the receptionish discuss this matter with the guests. Good thing about this hotel is you negotiate with the owner. He also work closely with a taxi driver who you can trust. He drive you everywhere with short cut. Be cautions about taxi in Vietnam, they could black mail you. I heard that they charge you 50 usd for few streets of driving. Here is trusted brand taxi: Mai Linh, Vina Taxi (yellow car). I don't recommend Vina Sun taxi anymore, because they are agressive and some of them do drive you around to get little more money. But you could not get other taxi, VinaSun is ok to accept. You must get the taxi identifier number every time you ride the taxi for lost and found purpose or complain.

I stayed at the hotel for 3 nights in March. Hotel is close to downtown attractions. my room was in a high floor which i could get a good view of city and the river from the window. The buffet breakfast is ok, not much choices but it is a 2-star so you dont expect something fancy. Overall, the price was affordable, room is clean, quiet, friendly staffs. will come back for my next trip.

Was there early Dec 09. Rooms were ok but expected better. Agree that the bed was stiff hard, sink is cracked and the best part they don't even have laundry bags when we request. The cleaning lady pinted out to a laundry basket instead. Well, if you are not a particular person, this hotel is doable for shower and zzzzz. If you are expecting something better comparing to those Guest Houses in Phuket, they are quite far away. For those who has a better budget, you may want to consider Northam which is right across the road. Breakfast is nothing fancy as this is a small budget hotel.

We stayed at the Ho Sen for 3 nights up to and including the start of Tet, the Vietnamese New Year. The hotel is very centrally located, the staff were friendly and helpful in spite of the fact that they were working over their Tet holidays. Rooms were clean and quite spacious. The construction work mentioned in another review seems to have been completed ! On the evening of Tet we all went up to the roof of the hotel to look at fireworks over the Saigon River, the next day they invited us to a (free) New Year's lunch. Only quibble: in a country where eye-poppingly strong and delicious local coffee is available on every street corner, the restaurant served the usual watery US style ditchwater.

I spent 8 nights in Ho Sen Hotel, HCM in April 2008.

Room classifications don't really match the brochure or website, and consequently you have to believe them (or not) what room type you are actually staying in.

The area is great for tourists. It's away from the back packer district, a block from some good restaurants (Al Fresco for western at reasonable prices and WONDERFUL staff). It's about a 3 block walk to the Opera House area, which is the center of the tourist district.

HCM is dirty, dusty, hot and noisy. Ho Sen Hotel has many of these qualities for you to experience :) Both sides of the tall, narrow building have construction work going on. It's going to be pretty noisy there for months, if not a year at least. It's wise to have earplugs in HCM, everywhere is noisy and the hootin and tootin traffic ends late and starts early. Discos, clubs and bad karaoke are all loud and will keep you awake.

I stayed two nights in a standard room - small but ok, it had a window and because of the next door building been demolished, had a pretty good view of the river. I changed to a deluxe room for the rest of my stay because the room I had was like an oven. Just next door and sharing a common wall with the bathroom, was the hot water tank for the floor or the building - and it was just unbearable. The deluxe room was at the front of the building, a decent size. Both rooms had cable tv, and the bathrooms were very similar.

Over all I had a problem with the rooms being clean, but not very clean. This is a problem with a lot of budget hotels. Your idea of clean is... clean in the corners, clean behind the door, clean under the bed - even when pointed out to the staff, they still didn't manage to remove built up dirt and dust until the third request.

I had my bag opened and my things gone through by the cleaning staff. Nothing was stolen but maybe that was because only my toiletry bag was inside. I overheard another woman complaining that she had money missing. I packed all my things back into my bag and locked it everyday before I went out.

Be warned, the mattress' are like sleeping on concrete - the hardest I've ever experienced. Be warned that the sheets and pillowslips are not always changed. I don't mind that if I'm staying in the room - but - on my last day there, I had a late checkout. Whilst I was at breakfast ( there is a great weekend brunch at The Refinery - through the archway across the road from the Hyatt) - the staff had cleaned the room for the incoming guest. They didn't change the pillowslips - I know because the stain was the same.

Breakfast is included in the rate (USD40 ++ for standard, USD50 ++ for deluxe). It's a small buffet, with a selection of local dishes, toast, eggs and club sandwiches - watery juice and tea and coffee, a little fresh fruit. Food handling is not good. I watched the staff replenish the food with their bare hands, seconds after using the wash room situated off the breakfast area.

HCM is not easy to find budget accommodation that I'm happy with... the search continues.
