We had a very pleasant stay at Giang Son Guesthouse and would recommend it to anyone.
We booked by email and they kindly arranged airport transfer for us.

Giang Son is located in a quiet alley off a main road. There are lots of restaurants and cafes in the area and it is within walking distance of a number of attractions. We were greeted warmly and given a welcome drink of pineapple juice. Our room was clean and comfortable with A/C and hot showers, TV and in-room WIFI. A simple breakfast was included in the price of the room (US20) and served around the family dining table! Service was attentive and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble.

We would happily recommend Giang Son and would stay there again.

I was looking for a highly recommanded Guesthouse in this alley, which turned out to be fully booked. However, I felt so lucky beeing refered to Giang Son Guesthouse located off the busy street in the same quiet alley. Very friendly staff. The room comes with breakfast, WIFI, TV, Aircon, Fridge, Shower with Curtain (Hot Water). We paid 18 USD for the bigger room (one Queensize Bed) on the 4th floor.

English and French widely spoken by staff.I have no trouble in recommending this wonderful family business to all who are looking for value ++

I stayed here with a friend for 3 nights and if i ever return to Saigon id probably stay here again.

This guesthouse offers the best balance between price, convenience and comfort and at 18USD a night for a double room its great for budget travel.
The price includes free in-room wifi (pretty good speed), a TV with cable channels (we were able to watch an EPL match) and a simple breakfast of bread, eggs and coffee/juice at a communal table where we met fellow travellers.

The room itself is small and with two big travel bags there was not much walking space, but as we were out most of the day we didnt find this a big problem. The decor is clean, homely and cosy. The bed is soft though the blankets were thin so do bring your own if you are used to big fluffy blankets. There is air-con and a fan and both worked so well it got cold at night. The toilet had a shower with hot water but it took awhile for the water to heat up and the water pressure was slightly weak but tolerable. Most importantly we felt comfortable in the room and slept well.

Location wise the major advantage of staying here is that the guesthouse is in a back alley just off the main Pham Ngu Lao street. This means that you will not have to suffer the noise and constant honking from the heavy traffic, unlike the hotels located on the main road. The downside is that, being in a back alley, it may be slightly difficult to locate the guesthouse and we found ourselves getting a bit lost even after our second day there. A good tip would be to get a map from the receptionist. The backpacker area is small but with tonnes of bars and restaurants serving international fare and this guesthouse is within walking distance of all the sights. As with most budget hotels in Vietnam, there was no lift and we had to climb the stairs everytime, but it was not a big issue as a bit of a workout was needed to compensate for the great meals we had in the stalls nearby.

As for safety, we gave our passports and money to the receptionist to keep in the safety-deposit box as there was none in our room. This was a really good move and i would suggest that other travellers do this as we have heard horror-stories of snatch theft on the streets of the city. We collected our valuables at the end of our stay and nothing was missing.

Service at this guesthouse is average and i have experienced warmer and friendlier hosts at other hotels in Vietnam. The staff speak English and we had no major communication problems. They are professional and will give directions and book tours for you if you ask them to. On our arrival we received a welcome drink which was a nice gesture. Housekeeping made our beds and cleaned our room every morning and they will do the laundry for a small price.

Overall, we were happy to have stayed here and would recommend that all visitors to the area consider staying at this guesthouse. When we left Ho Chi Minh for Dalat we found ourselves missing our room at Giang Son Guesthouse.

We stayed here for 4 or 5 nights and were lucky enough to have one of the big rooms with a huge window. (There are smaller and cheaper once available but I recommend to ask for the big one though.)

The owners are extremely friendly and helpful.
As I got sick when I was in Vietnam I really appeciated that very much.

The breakfast is included in the room price and very good. If you like they prepare the vietnamese coffee for you but they seem to assume that westerners do like the Nescafé or the "ordinary coffee more. Just ask for the vietnamese one - it's by far better.

Well, we enjoyed our staying here very much and would like to recommend this little family-hotel to anybody else.

Located off the busy street in an interesting alley this place was a great find! They will help you carry your bags up and down when you leave. Very helpful staff with excellent English. Located close to lots of great restaurants - only 2 blocks from where the bus from Mui Ne dropped us off.

Despite first impressions of this guesthouse located off a little alleyway in the bustling backpackers area, we really enjoyed our stay and thought it was great value. This guesthouse is run by a lovely family with good English who were very helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. For $20 a night we got a basic but nice breakfast (inc beautiful Vietnamese coffee) and a small but spotless double room with a/c, fan and a small window and cable tv (we had actually booked a twin but as one wasn't avail on check in we took the double offered, looking back at the website now i realised we were still charged for a twin as a double is only $16 a night but that's Vietnam for you!). Free internet access on the pc in the reception area is also included. We got return airport transfers through the guesthouse for $24, this turned out to be an old taxi with a very unfriendly driver but he got us there and back in one piece and was still less stressful than dealing with the local taxi drivers over prices. This guesthouse is in a great location close to restaurants, beauty salons (Hoang Thy on Do Quang Dau St was clean and quite good, we had a 1 hour Vietnamese hot stone massage for 120.000 dong) and Sinh Cafe who had lovely pastries and were great for Mekong Delta and Cu Chi tours. Milwaukee on Pham Ngu Lao had the best juices and cocktails in the area and Akbar Ali on D Bui Vien was good for Indian food. If you don't mind staying in a basic small room (as pictured on website) and walking a few flights of stairs (there's not lift), this is a great budget option and I would recommend staying in this guesthouse. It's also a great place to meet other travellers from around the world at the communal breakfast tables.
