I just spend a few nights in Saigon last week. Stayed at the Intercon. Just a day before arrival, I received an email from the hotel to say that due to plumbing problems, they had to shut off a floor, and will move me to the residences wing. Nice touch that they tell you up front so that there are no surprises when you arrive.
When I arrived, I was led to the residences wing. Its actually quite a distance, its a separate block so it requires a bit of a walk from the hotel to the residences. The nice part is you can walk indoors all the way past a whole bunch of restaurant that certainly has appetizing food. This mall was previously a small shopping complex attached to both blocks but has now been converted to restaurants. If you are looking for Korean food, this has to be one of the places in Saigon.
Anyway, the rooms in the residences are quite similar to the hotel, except its has a living room and a separate bedroom. The living area comes with dining, kitchen, rice cooker, large fridge, so its excellent if you are looking for apartment living. It also has a sound system that is awesome, surround system with 360 degree speakers all around you that blows you away when you watch a movie with great sound effects, like Transformers. There is also a washer and dryer if you need. By the way, everything in the room is Samsung, so you can tell they are a big fan.
The only small problem is the phones are by the bed and another by the TV console, so if you are working on your laptop and need to make a conference call, there is no phone by the desk. You would have to use the one by the TV console , extend the wire to the dining table, and work from there...which is a little inconvenient as you will also need a power source by the TV console to stretch all the way to the dining table.
One other thing to watch out for: the hotel wing is very used to dealing with guests, so they will ask and know whether the taxi driver knows where he is going. On the residences, most of the people there are residents (eg longer staying), so they missed out on asking the cab whether he knew where I was going. I found out after hopping into one and he drove of 5 minutes before asking me exactly where I was going. You know after that its 30 minutes of needless worrying until I arrive at my destination.
And if you have to use the club lounge, be prepared to walk, its in the hotel wing.
Overall I think its quite a good place to stay if you are there longer as its feels more like a home, but probably not a good choice if you are a pure business traveller going to be zipping in and out for 1 or 2 days.

I checked in at Intercontinental on 18th May and checked out 20th May and would like to compliment the staffs for their friendly and excellent services provided. When i checked in, the checked in staff asked me to sign up for an additonal USD69/per night package for 2 person in order for me to have access to their club floor. With the additional charges, you can enjoy complimentary internet, afternoon tea and also happy hour at 19th floor. If you enjoy wines and some drinks, this is a nice place to hang out. Apart from just alcohol beverages, they also offer juices and also some finger food. i only add on the package for 1 day instead fo 2 as i wanted the free intrenet access and also wanted to try out the Afternoon tea at club floor. The afternoon Tea is nothing special and not much food varieties were offered.
Location for the hotel is good as you can walk to major attraction at Lam Son square easily. Rooms are modern and clean, with very comfortable bed. The coffee tea making facilities are great and they offer very nice teas. Breakfast spread has very good varieties. The bathroom has a very nice tub. Unfortunately i do not have the time to soak in in.
my best experience was at the Spa as the therapist was very professional and it was very pampering after the whole day of shopping and touring around Ho Chi Minh. If you have time try the message and it was a worthwhile experience.

Really enjoyed our stay here which was the last leg of our 4 week Viet Nam holiday. Great location- very easy to walk to a number of attractions. Rooms- really comfortable. Bed and pillows of the stanard of a true 5 star hotel. There is nothing better than relaxing in a bath and watching TV. Staff in the hotel were very good. The breakfast buffet- amazing. Would stay here again in a heart beat.

The hotel lobby was nicely decorated and very welcoming and the staff members greeting guests at the doors seemed friendly and genuine. The concierge offered a fantastic restaurant suggestion for dinner near to the hotel. There is a Hard Rock Hotel next door to the hotel if you don't want to venture too far for dinner. The rooms were clean and very well decorated and the bathroom was spacious, simple, yet sophisticated. Breakfast was delicious with a wide selection of food with and the wait-staff were very attentive. Each staff member we encounted was friendly, curteous and went out of their way to help us.

The Intercontinental represents predictable comfort and all the facilities needed in a 5 star. The staff are very service minded although I must say the "One touch " service bell went unanswered some nights. The concierge service was good in recommending tours which are a really good idea in this city. The location is good, easy form the airport and to walk around in the city. It is close to the Notre Dame cathedral and Reunification Palace. There are many very upmarket shopping malls in the vicinity but they are mainly good for the restaurants or coffee places since the high end shops are predictably expensive, very expensive and probably cheaper elsewhere in the world (like London). Having said that - the restaurants and prices of items are generally cheap and lower than most SE Asian countries. The hotel restaurant serves a good buffett breakfast and room service is excellent too, serving up western and Vietnamese fare. Ther eis a bar in the lobby to relax and some cort of club on 1st floor that I didn't get to. Prices are good value for money for this 5 star and I would definitely recommend.
