This is a nice hotel, however people need to take a WARNING about the Intercontinental IHG Points system. It really AWFUL. They try to promote Ambassador memberships and they try to get people to sign up for point bonus offers, however if your not careful then your going to get screwed. Some key things to know:

1 - You will only get 2000 points per STAY. So if you stay one night, or seven nights in a row, then you still only get 2000 points. So make your short stay bookings here, but if you want points, then make your long-stay bookings somewhere else.

2 - If you book two rooms at the same time then you will only get credit for one room. Even if it is your kids staying in the other room. I just found this out the hard way when I signed up for a "special" they had advertised for an additional 1000 points per night. We spent 3 nights there and I was told by their website reservations people that I would get 10,000 points, but then the points people rejected this due to some fine print and I only got 5000 points. Needless to say, I am pretty pissed off about this.

It typically takes about 25,000 points for a free night. So that means that you have to travel 13 separate times to ever get a free room. It does not matter if you stayed in a room two or three days per each visit.

Plus, to rub salt in the wound....I paid for the Ambassador membership because I travel a lot and they promise a room upgrade for each stay. I travel enough so that I know the room layouts and I can tell you that their are no room upgrades. I'm staying in the same rooms that I stayed in back before i upgraded to Ambassador level.

Come on Intercontinental, get your act together or you will lose my business for good.

Great standard hotel in an easy location. The deluxe room is kitted out as you would expect, clean lines, functional and very clean.

Big bathroom that opens up to the main sleeping area via a moveable wall. View over the city and the hecticness of the roads below.

Buffet breakfast was as good as any I have had worldwide. Friendly staff and great location.

Would stay again.

Room Tip: Get a room higher up the building for a good view.

True to the Intercon chain of hotels, this one is nothing short of great. Had a great stay here and the buffets are a must try. Conveniently located in district one and close to all the shopping areas and amenities. However, please take care in crossing the roads here as it can be quite chaotic, and haggle, haggle when you visit streets stalls.

We stayed in this hotel for four nights whilst in HCMC. The hotel is in a great location and the rooms are modern and clean.

The gym and the pool were very well maintained too - the gym had lots of equipment.

The hotel staff were very attentive and helpful.

However the only downside was breakfast was not included in the room rate and very expensive so first thing in the morning we had to find a local coffee shop for breakfast. Also wi-fi in rooms very expensive, but could use it in the lobby.

All in all a great city centre hotel with a good pool!

We were upgraded to a stunning suite. Everything about this hotel is first class. Rooms spotless, breakfast and lounge terrific, staff courteous and attentive. Even laundry sensibly priced. Location ideal close to all major attractions.

I could not recommend it more highly. Thank you to all staff.

This was the first destination and a really good hotel to start our holiday. My husband and I stayed at the Intercontinental for 4 nights.

The location was good and within walking distance to many sites (which was important to us as we love to explore the city on foot while on holiday). The city is easy to navigate if you have a map.

The view from our room was interesting. We had a clear view of an intersection which provided us with countless moments of entertainment as we watched the locals and tourists navigate the intersection. Also the view from the poolside (on the roof) was amazing.

Housekeeping was very diligent. Room was clean and the water replenished everyday.

The staff was very polite and helpful. We had the concierge recommend us a restaurant while we were there and she booked our table as well provided us with a printed map to help us navigate the area.

Before going to Vietnam we heard a lot about tourists being targeted by unscrupulous taxi drivers. The hotel provides a taxi pick-up service (free and right outside the main entrance) which only uses taxis that have a good reputation. If you want to take a taxi please use this service.

The restaurants in the hotel are expensive. We were not tempted sign up for the breakfast rate as it did not make fiscal sense (the breakfast was more expensive that in most hotels in the west). There are a few places (Hard Rock Cafe, a Singaporean restaurant, a Korean Place, a Coffee shop, an Italian restaurant, just to mention a few) to eat in the complex attached to the hotel. These can be accessed through the side entrance in the lobby or from the outside. We had breakfast at the coffee shop (which also had free wi-fi) and dinner a couple of times at the Italian restaurant.

The complex attached to the hotel also has ATM machines if you need to withdraw cash.

Wi-fi at the hotel is expensive. Its best to use it at a coffee shop as most coffee shops in Ho Chi Minh have free wi-fi. The password is usually printed on the receipt or provided by a friendly member of staff when asked.

The gym at the hotel was adequate. The opening hours for hotel guest were 24/7. The gym is also used by locals for a fee so check what times are not busy with the staff and plan your visit accordingly. We frequented the gym usually around 11am and didn't have a problem. The pool is refreshing and has and aquarium feel to it as one wall is glass. Also its nice to lay under an umbrella by the pool side and enjoy a cool drink as you take in the view.

Room Tip: We asked for a room on a higher floor as it would have ensured a peaceful nights sleep minus any noi...

Such a lovely review, thank you so much.

I hope the rest of your stay in Vietnam and South East Asia was great as well and you brought home many exciting memories.

As you wrote, we are right in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City. Saigon Opera House, Notre-Dame Cathedral, Post office and many other attractions are walking distance from us.

I am glad you enjoyed the gym and the pool. The pool is certainly unique with its glass walls.

In regards to WiFi, as of January 1st 2014, we will offer free WiFi to all our IHG Rewards Club members which is a really good news as this applies to all the IHG hotels across the world and will certainly help our members to enjoy even more benefits regardless which country they visit.

Once again, thank you very much from all of us and we hope to welcome you to InterContinental Asiana Saigon again.

Best regards,

Staying at the Intercontinental Asiana for a business event I found the property to be fantastic. The rooms were fully equipped with quality finishes and a beautiful bathroom. Likewise the restaurants had really comfortable and well designed spaces. Market 39 had a very tasty buffet both for breakfast and for lunch.
