Reviewed 12 August 2012

Well suited to the traveller who has grown tired of the Sheratons, Hyatts and 5 stars hotels which may seem cold and predictable, but who still want the same but more....

Highly recommend this hotel if it's within your budget.

One thing to note is that wifi is not possible for level 2 onwards for iPad and iPhones, though it works fine for notebooks. Probably a router issue.

Breakfast is made up of lots of fresh fruits!

Stayed 5 nights in this hotel, took very good care of us, excellent location, centrally located, but very quiet, so the sleep quality is good. On the first day they delivered a giant birthday cake while my daughter had her birthday a few days earlier. The breakfast was okay, and the staff worked well either they could a little bit improve their english, but that's all over Vietnam a problem even the fact that people are a little bit suspicious, trust each other is difficult for them, also in this htel where they missed one little towel in one of the 2 rooms we used. Really, trust the client, I don' t need on such a trip a 30-30 cm towel. They didn't in the end charge me for the towel.
With such a service location and staff real good value for money.

The people at this hotel could not have been more helpful, they were a wonderful introduction to the country and people. Everyone we dealt with spoke good English, they were attentive and very keen to ensure that we had a good holiday. The room was thoroughly cleaned every day and the bedsheets were so beautiful to sleep on that we tried to buy some to bring home. The location was excellent - right in the heart of District 1 and just a short walk to the river for our trip to the Delta. There was wifi in the room and also a guest computer in the lobby. Can't recommend them highly enough.

This is a wonder small hotel in busy Saigon. Clean and Quite with an excellent location. The room was spacious and clean. Lots of small affordable restaurants near by. We had trouble with the wifi in the room about 50% of the time, however there is a guess computer in the lobby you can use for free and since the hotel is small there wasn't a wait to use the wifi.

A good location for touring Saigon for for small business meetings.

For the price I got, it was a great stay. I had a conference to attend at the Sheraton which is across Catina Hotel. Price difference? 55% the price of a room in Sheraton. I met someone who stayed at the Bong Sen next door to Catina, also very near to Sheraton. His room rate is very similar to Catina. But the rooms in Bong Sen were old. For Catina, the rooms were modern and new looking. The bathrooms in the deluxe rooms we had were with bathtub, and complete bathroom accessories like toothbrush, shavers, etc. The water closet also has a bidet. Strong aircon, and nice big LCD TV.The front desk personnel are quick to act, and it helps that the hotel is small, thus there is not much people that will compete for your time at the front desk. A great plus is that there website allowed Ryan, who handled my reservations, to chat with me via yahoo messenger. Thus all my questions were asked and in less than 30 minutes, my chosen room, my chosen dates, and my chosen rates were finalized.

The hotel only has 1 elevator, and it travels at a leisurely rate. But this easy accent/decent provides a smooth end to whichever floor your destination is. The breakfast is served at their cafe/restaurant located at the 1st floor, which would be the 2nd floor in other countries (above the ground floor). For the 6 nights/7days I stayed there, I noticed they change around 35-30% of the breakfast selection.

There is always a Vinasun taxi that waits right outside the hotel's main door, which is great. If no Vinasun taxi is in sight, there are a lot of taxis that use that road. OR you can cross the street and just 10 meters at the corner where Saigon Tourist taxis are parked across Sheraton Hotel. I noticed that each hotel has an official tie up with a certain taxi. Sheraton with Saigon Tourist, and Catina with Vinasun. The same I noticed when I went to Rex hotel, where they also use Saigon Tourist taxis for their guests. Oh well, Vinasun is reputable here in TA, so great for Catina to have Vinasun outside their doorsteps.

The only thing that bothered me is that they provided sofa seats and a table in each floor, where people will smoke. But this place is still indoors. Although the glass beside these seats can turn and provide ventilation, it is not the typical window and if you are not conscious about it, you will think it is a fixed glass panel. Because there is no exhaust system, the cigarette smell emanates through the whole floor (which is a small floor for around 10 rooms). The hotel should either make it a no smoking zone (they provided an ash tray on the table, which meant they allowed smoking), or allow smoking but put a sign to open the window to allow some form of ventilation. If not for this, I would have given this hotel a 5 star rating.

We had a lovely stay at Catina Hotel Saigon for one night in June/July 2012. The hotel staff were terrific, very friendly and helpful, they even surprised us with a cake for my partner's birthday! We stayed in a deluxe double room (no windows) - this was clean, cosy and quiet despite the busy street outside. The location in the dong khoi area was also very handy! Their breakfast selection was varied and tasty! Overall we enjoyed our stay at Catina- if you're looking for a value for money hotel with great service then this is the place for you! We would definitely stay here again!

I stayed at this hotel at the recommendation of a friend who had stayed here previously. The hotel location is really great and a perfect home base for sightseeing in Ho Chi Minh City. The room itself was quite spacious, including individual controls for the air conditioning unit in the room. Free wi-fi and breakfast were included in our room rate. The hotel staff was very friendly and was very diligent about keeping the room clean.

The breakfast was actually quite substantial, including many options typical in an asian hotel (fresh fruit, fried rice and stewed vegetables). In addition, each guest was allowed one free main course breakfast option. There was a tiny sign about main course options and the food options displayed on a tray when you walk into the dining room. You had to order this option though. When we stayed you could choose between an omelet, a waffle, or pho. We tried all three during our stay and each were good.

I would recommend that travelers arrange an airport pick-up through the hotel. I have a friend who lives in Ho Chi Minh City and she warned me that it can be difficult to find reputable taxis at the airport. I emailed the Catina hotel in advance and they were happy to arrange an airport pick-up for $30 one-way. This is pretty expensive, I realize, but it was worth it to me to preserve peace of mind. I hate the hassle of worrying that the taxi driver is taking me on the scenic route to maximize the fare.
