In the madness and motor cycle mayhem of Saigon the Ngoc Linh Hotel is a very pleasant oasis of relative calm and tranquility. This is an extraordinarily well run hotel, Mr Luong (apologies if spelling incorrect) a friendly and most obliging host as are hotel family and staff generally. Located in one of the alley ways of the backpacker district the hotel is close to the big market, to the major scenic attractions, to tour booking places and currency exchange offices. Mr Luongn went out of his way to ensure we had a great stay - arrived early without a booking - no problem, just rearrange rooms. Needed a day trip to the Mekong delta - easy and for a bit over $20 we had a 12 hour fascinating trip. Cab to the airport - done and for agreed price of $20!

The rooms are exceptionally clean and tidy, fridge and air con work perfectly, beds comfortable, wifi free (something we should see more of with Australian hotels!), breakfast included (great omelettes with fresh baguettes and fruit!. You get to meet fellow travellers and hear of their adventures. Couldn't recommend a better place and all for under $25!

Saigon is a pretty mad city, especially to people who are new to south east asian travel as we were. Our receptionists gave us great advice, great service and always were very helpful and enthusiastic - we even played cards together, and he went across the street just to get me a Saigon beer which they'd run out of themselves. The rooms are cleaned daily at no extra cost if you want, and laundry is both cheap and fast to get done. The hotel is well situated, close to the main nightlife area, but also within walking distance of most attractions, and offers trips to cu chi and mekong at very low prices. Our room was comfortable, very well air conditioned and almost so much a pleasure to be in that we didn't want to leave it! At about $9 a night, including breakfast, could not recommend this hotel highhly enough.

Definitely stay at the ngoc linh. My friend and I spent a few nights here, it's got a great location, nice rooms and the staff are very nice. The value is great especially as you get a breakfast included. Everything worked well including the wifi. There are a lot of other hotels on the street but not all are of this standard. Didn't have anything stolen, or even felt like we might. They even let us hang around for hours while we waited for a coach. Would definitely recommend this place!

Pros: The location was great. You are within 5 min walk from the central Ben Thanh Market and right around the corner from Bui Vien St which has a lot of food and drink places as well as clubs and shops. The front desk men were nice and spoke English. Breakfast that was included has only 6 options but it is good enough. There is also someone at the front desk 24/7. They have cold water and soda at the front that you can buy for cheap. They give you a good area map and helped us stay in contact with the airport when one member of our group lost his bag. The rooms were clean.

Cons: Like many places in Asia, the rooms have a slot when you enter for a card that gives power to the room. This is in an effort to save electricity. The bad thing about this at this hotel, though, is that, although it is advertised as optional and suggested to turn the air and fan and all electricity off in the room when you are gone, you actually have no choice because they come into your room and turn it off for you if you don't. The privacy and safety of your things is also compromised because of this. They entered our room every day even though we had the "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door handle every day. They even had the gall to come into our room to turn off the electricity when we went out one night for supper! We weren't even gone for 1 hr and came back and they had entered our rooms and turned all the electricity and a/c off!! They didn't have any reason to enter in the first place because they had already serviced the room earlier that day. When the front desk guy saw we left he went up and unlocked our rooms and shut everything off. This is an invasion of privacy, and was a huge negative that we were not allowed to keep our rooms cool for when we needed to get out of the heat during the day! The other huge negative was storage and room locks. Although we did not have anything stolen, the door was a really weak lock that you probably could have just forced open if you wanted to, and obviously people were entering our room without our permission the entire time we were there. Also, the storage closet in the room had a pathetic lock on it. We locked it and literally turned it open with just our fingers by pressing on the lock mechanism. We had a wrench and tightened the mechanism some, but could still open it by sticking any flat item slightly into the key slot. If someone wanted our things and if we had left valuables there they easily could have been gone. Finally, the beds and pillows were not comfortable.

This guest house is situated near the centre of Saigon and is near many restaurants and evening activities. The rooms are clean with air conditioning and hot shower. Everything worked and the staff are very friendly.

The breakfast consisted of eggs, bread and coffee. This suited us very well and we were very happy with the quality.

The staff are excellent and make a big effort to be helpful. Thanks for all your effort.

There is a restaurant / bar next door that sells beer for 12,000VND and there food is not bad also !

This is a good place to start or finish a trip: it is clean and dependable. We will use it again.
