“Lovely hotel spoiled by rude staff & destroyed laundry”
Reviewed 6 May 2013

The hotel located in a great spot very near the city centre, everything is within walkable distance. The rooms are small but impeccably clean and well turned out and the bathroom was fantastic with a gorgeous walk-in shower. There was clear, cool aircon and free wifi. Breakfast was the usual bread, eggs, fruit that you have in most hotels in SE Asia.

What really spoiled our stay here was the rudeness of the staff, particularly female, in reception. Requests for information or help were answered curtly and with the minimum of effort or interest and several people experienced the same problem. They just did not seem interested in helping their guest make their stay more enjoyable.

The challenge with reception was compounded that evening when 4 people in the group had issues with laundry (which was done externally but the service was provided through the hotel). One man didnt even get his 3 shirts back, he was just told they were "damaged beyond repair", 2 girls had some small items damaged / broken, and a fourth group member had 2 tops ruined with bleach (and most of her laundry was redistributed into other peoples bags). Whilst I fully appreciate that accidents happen, the situation was managed appallingly by the reception staff who insisted that people still paid 50% of the cost, despite the fact that theyd had clothing destroyed. Their feedback was that because the hotel itself didnt do the laundry, that it wasnt their problem. On this basis I would not recommend staying here.

This is a really nice hotel at a very reasonable price. Although we came here as a part of a G Adventures tour, we chose to stay here two more nights after the tour ended. Although this was partly because we just didn't want to load up and move, we also felt for the $35 rate it was quite a nice place. Yes, there are very nice places in district one for less than that price but we found the staff to be the sort that go out of their way, and not in hopes of compensation. They all made an effort to speak English and were thrilled by any attempt we made at Vietnamese. The breakfast was decidedly Asian in flavor and yet there were choices for those who find Pho off-putting. The rooms are well maintained, sizable, and very comfortable. but, by far the best aspect was its location. All of the central HCMC sights are within either a ten minute walk or $2 cab ride. The staff here were very good at suggesting things the average tourist would not see. The Hoang Phu Gia was perfect for a great time in beautiful Saigon.

Room Tip: Try spending time in the park at the end of the block. It made for a real slice of Saigon city life...

The two of us spent two nights in this hotel as the final part of our Vietnam Holiday. The Hotel is situated in center of Saigon, not far away from the war museum, and the Ben Thang market. Close by, there are some nice , clean restaurants to grab a meal or a cup of good Vietnamese coffee if you wish.

Checking in was smooth. We were in our room in ten minutes after checking in and our luggage was brought in a few minutes later. That was a happy beginning.

Room was spacious, modern, with a king size bed and a smaller bed, which we found convenient. Linen was clean, fresh and inviting. Bedding and mattresses were comfortable and the room was free of any noises . We had a good night’s sleep.

The washroom was spacious and all amenities one wish to have away from home like tooth brushes, shower stuff, shower caps, slippers, hair dryer etc. I found the only cake of soap was ridiculously small and wondered why the hotel wanted to make it so small. The absence free of tea / coffee stuff was notable, as this is the norm this sort of budget hotels all around the world.

The large screen LCD had a number of local and foreign channels and the reception was good. The WIFI signal was weak , but enough to check your mail and browse the net to find out about the places you are going to visit the next day.

Staff spoke reasonable English, were OK but not friendly. There was a particular man on for the evening who got unhappy when one of our group mates complained that his bathtub leaked and his door electronics didn’t work. After this complaint, he went to a negative mode and was not helpful at all. This was very strange as almost all people me met in Vietnam were warm and friendly. In any case we were determined that this one man with his bad mood was not going to spoil our stay or change our impression of warm Vietnamese people.

Breakfast had the usuals , and was OK for the prize you pay for the hotel. As the restaurant merges with the lobby and reception area, it feels crowded and squashed.

This hotel has only one shall elevator, which can be quite irritating if you want to get in or out in a hurry.

All in all, a nice , clean hotel, which gives you your money’s worth. Will certainly stay there again.

Definitely one of the better hotels I have stayed at in the last few weeks. The service is the one thing that makes or breaks a hotel. The staff here are friendly and very helpful.

The room was a good size, clean and everything worked. After a hard day exploring the city, entering the room was almost like hearing the sound of silence for the first time. Combined with the AC, it soon became a very relaxing environment.

The one thing that could be better is the breakfast, I had some toast, but everything else didn't seem very edible. This was a thought echoed by the rest of my group too.

1. clean rooms
2. breakfast buffet good
3. longer walks to everyway or taxi needed
4. hotel staff friendly and helpful (see below)

but we had at our arrival day the worst reception staff ever:
- the one talking to us was lying into our faces, just to get rid of us
- at least they let us changed the rooms (the guy upstairs was very friendly)
later:
- one not talking to us (seemed to be the manager in charged)
- the other one had to be convinced to give us required assistance
- starting mobile calls (obviously to friends) simply to let us wait

i would only recommend it as a second or third choice, due to clean rooms and distances to touristic locations and restaurants.
