From booking through emails from Australia which were replied efficiently and professionally we had A wonderful couple of days cycling through The Mekong Delta July 2014.Just my husband and I and our guide Mr Thang..who let me tell you was fantastic with lots of knowledge on this beautiful area.
After being picked up at our hotel in Saigon in a van then taken outside the city we began to cycle. Cycling on sealed pathways and roads, boats ( to cross the rivers of course) was just amazing fun and exciting. We cycled 3 days to Chau Doc before heading to Cambodia. staying at hotels end of day which were all comfortable. Cycling the most beautiful scenery we would stop anywhere along the way to eat fresh fruit and fresh juices. Mr Thangs choices of food for lunches and dinners were excellent. Bikes were of a good quality and well suited for the ride. We didn't see any others tourist for all these days so you really feel like you are in another world. We would like to say thank you for this great experience and would recommend there services. And we would do it again.. Cole n Ingrid..

“An Unforgettable Trip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 July 2014

Our trip with Vietnam Backroads was truly an unforgettable experience. If you want to get out of the city and see the true Vietnam - this is the way to do it.

Our guide Dat really made our trip. Wise beyond his years, he really went out of his way to make our trip stand out. He stopped at countless fruit stands along the way so we could try something we’d never had before. He also went out of his way to accommodate our dietary requirements (We’re vegan) which made eating much easier than we would have expected. Plus we tried numerous meals we wouldn’t have tried otherwise.

The scenery was fantastic throughout our journey. The people were also great along the way. Everything from children practicing their English and telling us ‘hello’ to letting us use their bathroom or take shelter during a rain storm.

The riding was quite good. A lot if it is on narrower paths which takes a bit of getting used to (Especially with the motor bikes passing), but we adjusted quite quickly.

Vietnam is truly a beautiful country. If you want to see the countryside don’t hesitate to give Vietnam Backroads a try.

Our only regret is that our trip was 3 days instead of 3 weeks ;-)

“A great weekend”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 May 2014

We, a group of workmates, went on a great weekend bike trip with Vn back roads. They picked us up on Friday afternoon dropping us back in Sunday, entertained us for 2 days, catered the trip in The Mekong Delta for our group, and were just generally great company. We saw great sites, had good food, heard cute stories, etc. The trip was between Saigon and Can Tho with two nights hotels and food for around 240 USD each. We had multiple employees with us and tour guides. The bikes were quality and it was well run. They will change trips for skill sets and interest. Looking forward to the next trip.

“The real Mekong Delta”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 April 2014

I spent quite a few hours researching options to travel the Mekong Delta and the idea of just getting buses and ferries or paying through the nose for a high end tour didn't really appeal, so I started to look into cycling options. From the very first email, right through to waving us off at the end of our trip, the experience was professional, efficient and fun.

They helped us to tailor a trip from Ben Tre to Phnom Penh over three days, all for a very reasonable price, and while cycling through the villages and fields, we didn't see a single Westerner, so you really are taken off the beaten track. The views are stunning and the people smile and wave constantly, which I kind of expected, but I wasn't prepared for the cultural and gastronomic experiences we had on the trip. Thang, our guide, seamlessly interspersed cycling with food and drink stop offs at the most unassuming places, so we ate all sorts of delicious local food that we would never have otherwise tried. His local knowledge of the area was great, so we picked up loads of 'Did you knows' about the area. Some of the best bits were interacting with the curious locals who were delighted to use Thang as an interpreter to ask us all manner of random questions, often including which football team my boyfriend supports. You can cycle as little or much as you like as the accompanying van can whisk you off across normal roads if it gets too much.

My one bit of advice would be to wear open toed sandals instead of trainers and to generally give proper consideration to what you wear as cycling in that heat can become challenging, regardless of your fitness level.

“What a fantastic trip.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 February 2014 via mobile

We booked a 3 day bike tour of the Mekong Delta. What a phenomenal trip! We had the best time. The best part of the tour was our guide Thang! He was superb. I can't say enough about him! Get him for your tour guide if possible. I had a medical emergency on the 2d day of the trip and Thang was extremely helpful and got me in and out of the hospital in Can Tho in 45 minutes (complete with CT scan, Xray, doctor reading of the CT and Xrays, a visit to the pharmacy, and final payment (US$ 75 total!)). I cannot thank him enough!

There were a total of 3 of us on the bike tour. We all decided that we did not want to spend three days eating tourist food in tourist restaurants. With the guidance of our trusted guide, we ended up eating a lot of street food during the day and at great (local) restaurants during the evening. Absolutely wonderful food and extremely authentic. Fortunately for us, Thang is a self-avowed "Foodie" and he was more than willing to show us the real Vietnamese gastronomic delights. I had the best spring roll of my life from a little lady at a food stall in some unknown village on the 2d day!

As far as the biking goes, the bikes were top notch and new. They had 21 gears and great breaks and also came with gel seat covers -- they were very welcomed as the km's mounted! The bike paths ranged from dirt paths to concrete paths that connected villages along the way. It was a very pleasant and relaxing environment for a bike ride. The scenery was beautiful!

I can't say enough about this tour. I would do it again in a heart beat. Go and book the trip!
