We were a large group of 8 people, so decided to book Riverside, as Sherwood was fully booked, for 4 nights
Went for two 2-bedroom apartments, with each sleeping 4 persons - a double and two single beds in each apartment. One had a river view, one had pool view. Both rooms were bright and clean, with a more than adequate kitchen, dining and living area. So no issues with the apartment hardware (though not much soft furnishing), though they were nowhere as nicely furnished as the headline picture on Tripadvisor. Or maybe the Tripadvisor picture was for rooms for long-stay customers (since this is a serviced apartment), but certainly not for our 2-bedroom apartments.
Other facilities: Adequate pool 25-30metre laps, adequate gym (no free weights, bench press etc). Has a minimart within the compound (open until 8pm) where prices are reasonable. And there is also a café (we had breakfast there one morning, pricey compared to the quality you get, relative to what you can get elsewhere in district 1).
Breakfast (that came with the room): At the breakfast restaurant/café, selection of food is very limited, and very often run out. While they do replenish, we had to wait 15 minutes for plates, cutlery and food to be replenished. To be fair, the staff was trying their best, just poor planning and/or kitchen staffing, I guess. On one of the morning, we were the first customers to arrive, and they put a COLD pot of coffee on the coffee warmer, when we ask for freshly brewed coffee. Not sure if it is overnight coffee, but hard to understand how can freshly brewed coffee be cold and need to be warmed up on the warmer? In short, breakfast is nothing to shout about, just to fill-up the stomach a bit before heading out.
Location wise: this is in district 2, a relatively new and under-development district. So there isn't much breakfast, dining options outside the compound. Getting there from district 1 takes about 10 mins, costs around 170,000 dong. From airport, it costs about 270,000 dong, half an hour to 45 min in average traffic. Location is not an issue for us, since we head out in the morning after breakfast, have dinner in district 1 or 3, before heading back to the apartments for the night.
Nutshell, nothing to stop us from coming back, but will probably try other serviced apartments the next time, just for comparison. Would like to give this a 3.5 star rating, but there isn't a half star option.
