“not a luxury hotel but serves its purpose well”
Reviewed 25 July 2014 via mobile

There are so many hotels in HCM so it will boil down to where you prefer to be and the price you are willing to pay. Golden Rose is within walking distance in some of HCM's famous landmarks and is very reasonably priced. For around $30, I had a modest sized room with all the necessities - comfy bed, good a/c, tv with cable, good wifi, cabinets, linen, slippers. While they provide toiletries you may wish to bring your own, though. Breakfast is good, too. It's definitely not a luxury hotel but if your days are busy anyway and you are looking for a place to stay and rest then this is definitely value for money. There are better rooms which are more expensive but I was quite satisfied with my room.

For $30 a night, I got a decent room with a window (something hard to find at those rates in HCMC or so I think based on the number of searches I did to find a room with a window) though it didn't offer any view which to me is not that big a deal. Breakfast was included. The hotel has a small gym but if you want to run outside, there is a stadium bang opposite the hotel with a jogging track, tennis courts, and possibly more which I thought was great. So nothing much on the hotel but great location and here's why.

If you're not someone who can go loco on food, there's KFC right next door, else there are tons of Cafe's nearby each offering something unique. There's Givral Cafe not far away, Passio, and a lot of joints selling local food and the amazing Pho. The War Remnants Museum, Notre Dame Cathedral, Post Office, the Opera House, and some great Cafe's like L'usine and Eleven are all walking distance. If you have the legs, you can easily walk to the Backpackers street as well. Acoustic Bar is a ten minute walk from the hotel though everyone will tell you its far.... if you take a cab, the meter will start at around VND11,000 and you'll end up paying VND12,000 so you know its just there and can easily be walked. Grab a juice at Books and Juices opposite the Metropolitan Building / HSBC office.

Basic hotel at decent price and strategically located. If you have a bigger budget, there are others in the vicinity but its a great spot. For long term stay (6months), there's a service apartment right next door though it seemed a bit steep, price-wise. But for anything shorter, you might want to give this a try, after all there's a stadium right across the street and it would be a great place to meet locals and work up a sweat at the same time :)

Nothing memorable to report on this hotel. It is clean and affordable, and that is what I was looking for. I was concerned about getting there at very odd hours, so I contacted the hotel before hand just to make sure there would be no surprise cancellations. They responded promptly and reassured me there would be a note on my reservation, and therefore I could arrive at any time at night. I did not eat breakfast there, so cannot comment on that. The staff is friendly and helpful, even when they do not have the skills to communicate well in English. I would stay here again.

Free WiFi, but the connection is weak. They do have three desktop computers in the public lobby that are free to use. The inhouse restaurant is okay, but nothing special. The bathroom is clean and normally appointed with all needed supplies, including flipflops that are too small for adults.

The location of Golden Rose hotel is great, central and close to many attractions. However, the service is not the best. They gave us two rooms on different floors, even though we had stated we wanted them to be on the same floor. The rooms were okay; comfortable and with all the necessary amenities, but they felt slightly cramped. We didn't eat at the restaurant so can't give a review of that. The front desk was helpful and understanding, but perhaps this is because we knew how to speak Vietnamese.
All in all, a very average hotel, with nothing to make it stand out from the others. From the price I maybe would've expected a tiny bit better.

The hotel is in walking distance to a lot of the must-sees and museums in HCMC. However, the hotel is located in district 3 and the travel-shops and services for turists are placed in district 1. This also means, that if you book a day-tour from a company, the tour-bus do not pick you up. Insted you have to take a taxi to the tour-agency to go on the bus. The staff speaks English as good as vietnamese in the turist industry do, which is understandable at most times and completely not at other time. Unfortunately, the staff aren't that friendly and welcoming.

The location is good, close to many attractions.Nice 3* standard hotel.
The only thing I feel a little bit upset about this hotel is about their service. That makes all my good feelings of this hotel down.I'm working for the Service Industries as well and everyone must known that the attitude with the customers are really important, even your customers are Rich or Poor, Black or White, 'cause they're using your service. But the way they've shown me prove that they don't have a professional service.
The staffs also the manager are unfriendly and careless about their customers, the attitude should be improved. You should make the customers feel worth for what they pay for if you want a long term bussiness, and this time unfortunatetly I don't feel so.
