“Bargain deal in Saigon”
Reviewed 8 July 2013

The Hai Long 5 Hotel is a very good deal if you look for a clean, central and cheap hotel in Saigon (HCMC). I stayed here for two nights with a group of friends and had a bedroom with my wife. The room, to be fair, was very small and had no outside windows. However, it was clean, with a good bed and well-working AC. The bathroom was also well-equipped with better blow dryer than in many upmarket hotels. Breakfast was very good Vietnamese style (I love the combination of an omelet with fried noodles). And the location was very central. Saigon is spectacular and the Hai Long 5 should be your accommodation option if you are on a budget.

We booked for three nights, after the second night we wondered why we had so many bites (in the 20s), after a quick google we quickly realised it was not mosquito bites but bed bugs. Because of a hospital appointment we wanted to avoid the hassle of changing hotel so asked reception to change room. They offered us another room at 10am, after waiting two hours we moved room and prayed that we wouldn't wake up with any other bites. Thankfully, we didn't.

We got a cheap deal online for the hotel and while the service and breakfast was great we can't overlook the bed bugs, two weeks later and we are still covered in bites !

This is the kind of hotel that you leave with the 'good deal' feeling.
You get what you pay for.
The staff is quite nice and helpful. We got there pretty early and they let us check in around 8 am, it was nice of them after a 20 hour journey.
We also booked a tour to the Mekong Delta trough them and everything turned out fine.
The breakfast is included and it is nice :)
The hotel is quite near the opera house and the most important museums, so if you're that kind of tourist you may want to book this one.

Stayed here for 3 nights after looking at hundreds of options. Not the cheapest of options, but its not a bad place to stay.

The front desk ladies (Jessica and Jenny) were both beautiful and helpful and helped us quite a bit with getting around. The hotel is located fairly centrally from all the major sites in Saigon including some of the markets. We were able to get around quite well, albeit because family helped us out a lot.

We were upgraded to suite on a higher floor which was nice because, as it is everywhere in Saigon, it is loud no matter what time it is. Our room faced the rear of the building as well which insulated us from the noise. The superior rooms have internal windows so it may be quieter but from the looks of it, they are quite small. We had to pay for the upgrade on one of the three nights as they had it booked but we didn't want to move our things; but otherwise, the other two nights were free upgrades.

Breakfast was fantastic with a variety of western options but also Vietnamese noodles and food.

Room Tip: The higher floor rear rooms are worth the money given the noise!

This is our first stop in Vietnam and we were really impressed with this hotel. We stayed here for 3 nights in family room including breakfast and was about $45 per night. Room is large, clean and quiet with great air con. Breakfast is Vietnamese cuisine which suited us as we want to experience the culture. It is within walking distance to the markets and some of the major tourist attractions. Would highly recommend this hotel

We booked a Superior Twin Room for 2 nights and was upgraded to a Suite on the top floor. It was a nice treat! This large and beautiful Suite located on the 9th floor. This floor probably was added later so the evelevator stopped at the 8th floor. We used the stairs to walk up one floor to our room with no problem. Staff was friendly and fluent in English. The location was perfect to walk to many attractions, restaurants, and shopping areas. I would stay here again on my next visit.

I was immediately upgraded (free of charge) to their largest room when I arrived. This was a nice touch. The room was clean and comfortable with a large flatscreen tv and the shower was nice and hot.

The wi-fi signal strength was good and consistent. The staff were polite and friendly. Breakfast was very good - a choice of eggs plus various vietnamese dishes, toast, cereals, tea and coffee.

My room was at the back of the hotel so away from the main street and quiet.

I would recommend this hotel as a good value place to stay in a very central location and only 25 minutes from the airport.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are very quiet.
