“Convenient location & clean but don’t expect more”
Reviewed 29 January 2014

I stayed at Sunflower hotel for one night with friends. The hotel is conveniently located. The room is clean but the extra bed for the third person was so hard (we paid up for a room for 3 people) .

Breakfast is NOT good, food doesn’t look so fresh but guess there are so many good places around the corner to go for much better food.

The porter tried to persuade me to give him 20K Dong for my taxi ride to airport and said if I give him 20K, the taxi will go fast. I refused, the meter price came up with 13K. so be aware.

This review is for the Sunflower Hotel on Ly Tu Trong Street
The hotel was just OK. The major point I have is that the pictures of the hotel on the internet and in the prospectus at the hotel do no correspond with the hotel. In addition, on their home page they give an impression of having a restaurant, but there isn't any. They can order food for you from a take out and serve it in the room where they serve breakfast. But this for me is not a restaurant.
Staff, compared to other hotels in Vietnam, are not very friendly.

The sunflower hotel is located about a block away from the major market & about 10mins away from the noise & action of the "backpackers area" (a.k.a. Bars & restaurants). the Sunflower is a midrange hotel for $55 and a decent place to stay if you want to be in walking distance to most major sites of Saigon. We liked that there were many travel agencies close by but watch out for huge discrepancy in prices with the pricier ones closest to our hotel (eg. anywhere from $7 in backpacker region to $34 for the exact same tour of the cu chi tunnels & cao dai temple).

Overall, we felt the Sunflower offered a safe environment, a good location & a decent place to stay but the hotel itself was nothing special. The bellman were friendly with big welcoming smiles and the room was clean but the breakfast was easy to skip (eggs & Asian stir fries but limited fruit, juice, cereal or bread options & no yogurt). Overall, I think we got what we paid for and we were there for the sights more than the hotel amenities.

We reserved a deluxe triple with extra bed but go a double with extra bed. Upon asking the reception he mumbled he didn't have another room available because we arrived late at night.
Since we were only staying 2 nights I didn't bother asking again. Room rate via booking was confirmed at 165 $ which upon check out was conferred into VND and back into USD which resulted in 172 USD. I didn't bother asking but for sure this is lack of staff training. People hired from the street bring this of small rip off attitude to a professional hotel which gains 6 bucks but looses reputation. A shame.

I can see that this listing gives the address for the other Sunflower Hotel (also owned by the same people) and there are reviews for both Sunflower addresses- my review is for the new Sunflower on Ly Tu Trong Street.

We spent a couple of nights there last week and found it to be very good value- The room was very comfortable, not huge but fairly spacious and the bathroom was really lovely with a large stand-up shower. Everything was immaculately clean and the staff at the front were just lovely- very helpful-

If there is one thing I would say to the management- please add an English speaking News Channel to your tv stations..... - as we were there for only a couple of days it wasn't the worst but if we were there longer we would definitely want to know what was happening in the outside world and definitely like to wake up in the morning, wherever we are in the world, and watch the news. so- CNN or ABC or BBC any of them would be great.

This hotel is five minutes stroll from Ben Thanh Market and the location couldn't be better for walking around as the area is very interesting and you can visit the night market to have dinner in a fun atmosphere without breaking too much of a sweat.

We just arrived to HCMC when we checked into the hotel. It was very close to the airport so it was around a USD$8 cab ride. The lobby was immaculate and the construction was obviously very new. The decor was a bit strange (reminded me of what Elton John's or Liberace's house would look like) and the music was too elevator-ish, but it was nice. Our room wasn't large but it was adequate. The room was VERY clean and very modern...again, it felt like it was geared towards the business traveler. The front desk people were very helpful as were the doormen. The service at the restaurant was overwhelming...the waiter was so courteous and helpful...he made us feel like if we wanted prime rib that he would get the cook to make it for us. Great location to the market.
