This hotel is everything it claims to be. We were lucky to be upgraded to a suite and it was amazing. The rooms have soundproof glass so are a haven from the constant traffic noise. Excellent restaurants both in the hotel and within walking distance. Staff were fantastic. This hotel is an icon for a reason.

We stayed twice in this hotel with lots of charcter during our trip in Vietnam, the first time in the old wing, and the other time in the new section. The rooms were spacious and well appointed but the one in the new wing was a bit more modern. Check in went smoothly, staff was very helpful. There is a very nice bar with great views on the 8th floor. The selection at breakfast was excellent, overall we coudn't really find any faults during our visits.

Room Tip: In my opinion the new wing rooms are more modern

I had a fantastic time at The Majestic Hotel Saigon.
The location of the hotel is in a fantastic area of HCMC.
Reservation staff were extremely helpful, polite and friendly. They also offered a late checkout to us free of charge as the hotel wasn't fully occupied.
Concierge staff was also very helpful and courteous!
The rooms and bathroom were spacious and well presented. If you stay at this hotel, I would recommend you visit the roof top bar located on level 8 as it is a great place to enjoy a quiet drink and take in the scenery!
Buffet breakfast was delicious as well as plenty of options of food to cater for all.
We checked out the casino on Level 1. If you're a non smoker, I wouldn't recommend as it is enclosed and smoking is allowed in this area. Only criticism is that if you want to play pokies, they only accept USD and AUD (maybe other currencies) however you can not exchange Viet Dong into USD. Bar service was quite slow.
The outdoor swimming pool isn't anything flash however for a quick swim and a drink, it's a nice place to relax. The pool doesn't have any views as it is in the middle of the complex.
Overall great experience!!

Spent 5 nights here end June/beginning July. This hotel has a lot of character and plays the colonial heritage card well. Rooms are spacious if old fashioned and quite basic (this is really a 3+/4 star hotel by international standards, rather than a true 5-star, as advertised). Bathrooms are scrupulously clean, but the shower-in-bath awkward as the sides of the bath are perilously high. It's amazing the shift in water pressure from 6th floor (1st night) to 1st floor (rest of stay). Wifi is free throughout the hotel but hit-or-miss (line-wire is in the rooms too, at the colonial style desk designed to smash your knees at each sitting). On the walls are real bits of art, not of all which are dreadful. In-room furniture is very distinctive: 'real' furniture; a little old fashioned but just lots of character. If this were marketed as a 3+/4 star hotel I would rank it 5/5 here. But for a purported 5-star, alas I can only give the hotel 3/5 over-all.

Location is the thing here: very well located in district one, but watch for the pushy hookers on the street corner as you turn left out of the hotel. Close to Dong Khoi street with a smattering of good art galleries, and a range of shopping (from high-end to tourist tat): the superb Apricot art gallery, and a bizarre but very cool tiny 'shop' selling original Viet Cong propaganda posters, are very close by.

The ground floor retains a basic elegance, but this is hidden with too much cramed in there (including some naff jewelry & handbag concession stalls): there is something quite authentically post-Communist about the look. Food in the ground floor cafe (and elsewhere) is pretty bland/poor (eat elsewhere rather than the hotel), but cocktails are good (there is a breezy-cool rooftop bar, albeit the view is not that great).

The smallish pool is a triumph of design placement and engineering and very enticing for a cool-down at the end of the day: it's surprisingly deep, which makes a welcome change, but makes it not suitable for young children unless they're strong swimmers. There is a pool-guy on duty all the time (and he'll order your cocktails). There is a small but well-squipped gym and male and female spa (great stream room in the men's).

On a site next to the hotel they are shortly to begin construction of a tall tower extension to the hotel, a 'new Majestic'. The end result I suspect will be modern 5-star and it will be interesting to see how it dovetails with how with the colonial core of the hotel (check on construction if you're staying from the winter months of 2012 onwards).

In summary this hotel has a noble past stuffed full of history and character and, in all likelihood, a bright and spruced-up future. Between those times you'll either appreciate its charm or feel grumpy it isn't international 5-star standard. The hotel today is good value for a nice, if not epic, tourist stay in town. I enjoyed my stay (but used the martini bar at the nearby Park Hyatt after day 1).

Room Tip: 'river view' rooms can be noisy; some 'city view' rooms may have you looking at the...

Checked in for 4 nites but checked out after 1 nite. No one enquired or was remotely interested.
Rooms were tired and furniture was tired and off the mark as far as French colonial style was concerned. It was more like Asian nouveau riche style. Quite painful for the eyes.
Specifically , the shower water pressure was poor and one had to climb into the spa bath, quite an acrobatic feat, to use a telephone handled shower. And to make matters worse, the hot water ran out after 5 mins!
Only redeeming feature was the location in district 1 . And to some lovers of French colonial nostalgia, a hint of what it was and what it could be.

Stayed here for two nights upon our arrival in Vietnam. Hotel is in a great location, staff was friendly and helpful, airport pick up was a breeze, and the breakfast on the roof overlooking the river was scenic and delicious. We stayed in one of the river view rooms which was pretty awesome. The room itself was huge, very comfortable, had a great bathroom, and the view was spectacular! If you get a chance make sure to go up to one of the bars and have a drink one night, you won't be disappointed.

We decided to stay in Hotel Majestic for our last two nights in Ho Chi Minh before flying home. It certainly has a charm which the bigger franchise hotels just cannot match. Even though we booked into a standard room, the room was huge with a beautiful four poster french bed and marble bathroom. The courtyard and pool area were well kept and very relaxing for a morning dip. I found the room unbearably hot at night despite the air con, probably owing to the heavily dressed bed (which included eiderdown pillows and a bulky duvet). There was an umbrella in the wardrobe for taking out with us which was a nice touch we felt. My one criticism is that on nearly every article in the room there was a tag dictating how much that item would cost should you decide to take it from the hotel. I had never seen this done in such a blatant fashion before and I felt there could have just been a "menu" within the welcome pack giving a price for taking the soap dispenser (for instance). Whilst I appreciated the old world charm (the reason for booking this hotel) and the beauty of the interior, I had a much more comfortable stay in the Novotel in Nha Trang, that being said, the Majestic is like taking a step back in time to old Saigon, which, in itself, was a great experience.
